"Lady in My Life" was one of the coldest ballads ever written. IMO MJ does not get enough credit for his actual "vocal" abilities...

MJ could literally "blow".
As the King of Pop his dancing skills are given more attention, but quiet as it is kept MJ could sing.

"Lady in My Life" was also the favorite song of an ex of mine from way back. Whom I think I am still in love with…

You never forget your 1st….

Before Michael became "the King of Pop" he was the little brother in a talented family who had the purest voice of anybody his age ... and a whole lot of people older than him! Eek

During that time, he was much more appreciated for his voice than for his dancing ... because back then, with the likes of the Temptations and the OJs and the Dramatics and Gladys & the Pips ... everybody danced! Eek And the Jacksons did good ... but, they were also playing instruments so their steps were limited compared with others who were freer to move.

As he grew up (and especially after going solo) and his talents expanded and he put more emphasis on his dancing, I think that took precedence with his audiences because it took bigger precedence with him. But, for those of us around with him from the beginning ... his voice was always the perfection that made him distinctly 'Michael'. He was one of, if not the best ... and everybody knew it.

Which says a lot, ... a whole lot ... 'cause at that time the competition was fierce .. because unlike today, back then, having talent was the rule, not the exception. And if you couldn't stand the heat ... you weren't even invited into the kitchen! ek
