This really depends on the definition one uses.
Here is a quick list of people I have met who may qualify

1. Angela Davis (multiple times)
2. Cornel West (multiple times)
3. Jessie Jackson (multiple times)
4. Molefi Asanti
5. James Earl Jones
6. Allan Boesak
7. Alice Walker (multiple times)
8. Maya Angelou
9. Michael Eric Dyson
10. Salman Rushdie
11. Al Gore (multiple times - I grew up in his congressional district)
12. Eldridge Cleaver

For the geeks among us, from my days as a physicist, I have known 5 Nobel Laureates: Arno Penzias, Emilio Segre, Owen Chamberlain, Steven Chu, William D. Phillips

There are probably a few more that I could add if I gave it some more thought, but this is pretty good.
A whole bunch of actors and rappers cuz I grew up in Cali. You see them all the time at Venice Beach, Universal City walk, and the Beverly center. I don't remember them all but I have a few people that are memorable.

Cornel West(He was really kind)

Dr. Ben(Gotta love him)

Stokely Carmicheal/Kwame Ture's son(that counts right?)

Ice Cube(In his militant days, he's really short)

Beenie Man(He was tryin' to holla but I busted him about his babies maamma Carlene the former Jamaican dancehall queen...and proceeded to ask him about his favorite book "The Browder Files"...The look on his face was priceless because no Yankee gal is supposed to know that stuff)

Yo-Yo(she was really nice)

Queen Latifa(Busted her on a date with a girl)

Tevin Camble(Busted him on a date with a boy, ironically at the same place as QL...I stopped frequenting that place)

Ice-T

Onyx(I'm dating myself now)

BBD(multiple times...they hung out on Venice Beach)

Star Jones (back when she had that judge show, she was a real bitch)

Allen Payne(He was really short too)

KAM(If you know who this is I'm surprised)

Sarah Michelle Gellar(back when she was on Days of Our lives...and she was a bitch too)

Korupt from the Dog Pound(He was tryin' to holla but I can't stand thugs)

MIcheal Jackson's momma(she was nice)

Jermaine Jackson(he looked plastic and greasy but was nice)

And a couple of porn starz but I don't know their names... The people I was with recognized tham...Not me!

Maralyn Macoo and Billy Davis of the Fifth damention...(were related).

Tiger Woods, but I was too young to recall.

and lots more athletes.
Peace and Blessings,
O.K. Fine. I need to socialize more. Because I literally can think of almost no one except those I went to school with and I don't feel those count because it was a matter of happenstance. I am also somewhat embarrassed that our paths crossed. But, because I'm really gullible on this one....here goes:

Rozonda Thomas (Chili)of the group TLC- We sometimes socialized in high school.

PDiddy- Met him at a party in college once...not impressed.

Benjamin E. Mays- I met him before he died, my grandmother lived in his neighborhood.

Dr. Khallid Muhammad-very brief after a lecture at Howard University

Members of Kool and The Gang-at a parade in downtown Atlanta

Members of the music group The Gap Band-at a middle school function (okay why is a grown man trying to "talk" to a 13 year old?) and my mother was friends with the lead singer's girlfriend.

Members of New Edition- They actually came to my middle school and gave a performance. I screamed my lungs out...they waved back. Does this count? LOL

Jesse Jackson- Through a friend who worked at his Rainbow Coalition office

Maynard Jackson and his sons- they dissed me.*sigh*

Looking back at this, I can only gloat over a few and then not too hard. I really need to move around in better social circles. I'm going to start hanging around Kresge.(smile)

Peace,
Khalliqa
Erykah badu (my idol and imaginary sista-girl friend)
she was very nice and beautiful not at all like she looks on tv, not that she looks ugly on tv or nothing but you know-there was a glow about her like she was in love or just really at peace with herself and her life. i met her at the airport. she didn't have no body guards or nothing, she was just with her family, like a regular person going through the airport.

i've met rappers that were once local rappers here in new orleans but they are now somewhat nationally known-Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, Baby, C-murder.

Are you playing? cool
With the advent of baseball in D.C. I have been working my butt off, and I have not been able to surf this site like I had in the past, but I have a day off today.

I have met just about everyone that all others have mentioned...

The coolest would have to be pres. clinton. We had a 20 min convo about jazz.

Other notables: T.S. Monk - he can talk for days about any subject.

Alex Haley - very unassuming...

The Fugees - just before they blew up - they did an impromptu "perfomance" in a park in baltimore Clef & his guitar, Lauren & her "angelic" voice, Praz & his non commercial lyrics, and a turned over trash can for percussion... I wish I had taped it.

Janet J. - significant because I found out the she does have a kid... The person conducting the interview was dating El DeBarge's ex. Janet walks in sees her, they hug, how ya doin" yada yada. Janet says "How's El (DeBarge jr), she replies "He's fine, how's xxx?" Janet paused, looked around uncomfortably and responded with a quick "fine" - nothing else was said... I was the only one who picked up on it.

Craig Hodges - former NBA star who was essentially "blackballed" for taking a pro Black stance on many social issues.

Will Downing - one of the coolest brothers on the planet... he could make just as money as a comedian as he does as a musical artist.

Sonia Sanchez - one of the nicest super intellectuals you will ever meet.

Buju Banton - he explained the difference between a "dread" and a "Rasta".

Peabo Bryson - surprisingly, smokes like a chimney - he only stops to sing.

Shirley Horn - very eccentric. Her home seemed to be designed with no plan in mind - there are rooms that are additions, but they are completely arbitrary in design. Her back yard has a 10 ft fence w/barbed wire at the top - seemed odd to me considering she lived in a good part of the city. She also smokes a great deal.

There are many, many more, too numerous to mention, maybe one day...

O.K. vent over.(smile)

Peace,
Virtue

Yeah - it's really hush hush though. We're trying to keep it quiet. Don't tell anyone. eyes
More notables:

Harry Belafonte - He has this multi toned voice that really becomes apparent when I was listening on headphones - I have never heard anything else like it.

Kashif - He hadn't been around in a while, he comes walking into the audio room and strikes up a convo about music and audio. We had a good ole time... He had completely changed his look and I had no idea who he was until he walked onto the set as a guest on "Video Soul".

Haile Gerima - Maker of the film "Sankofa". This brother is one of the most powerful speakers that I have ever met. He's very passionate about the art of film making.

More to come... maybe.
Yet another notable:

Charles Dutton: He was one of the more interesting people that I have met. We talked about the reasons why you don't see many Black people on tv who are not in some sitcom, in a video or on the playing field. He also offered a great deal of insite as to how racist the industry truly is and how images are used, everyday, to destroy any positivity in the Black community.
I've seen celebrities, but most I never had a convo with.

There were a few that I got a talk to by. Given a "Good job kid," during a photo op or something.

Other than that, when I see someone, we pass as the strangers we are.

Eek
Let's see:

members of De La Soul (My rapper friend Benji-K and I opened up for them at UGA)

Baba Oje (silver-haired elderly black man from Arrested Development, the music group)--acted in a movie with him.

the duo Outkast, while eating in a restaurant in Atlanta.

Robert Townsend
Leon (from "The Five Heartbeats")
(met them earlier this year at the Black Film Festival in Atlanta). Mr. Townsend asked for my Tic Tac mints, so that was cool

Meagan Good (met her at the same festival, without the stilleto heels she's really short, but I'd date her if I could---smokin' hot!)

Jamie Foxx, when he did his stand-up at UGA and working on "In Living Color." He autographed my flier and I shook his hand. Hmm, Clinton shook JFK's hand and he later became President. Could it be possible that since I shook Jamie's hand, and he won an Oscar, would it be possible that I could win an Oscar as well?...I guess we'll wait and see. Wink

Queen Elizabeth II

Please tell us more.

On my last trip to England, I accompanied my grandmother to her local seniors club, where she and her friends usually knit. The Queen, I believe was scheduled to visit the area to speak with a few of the representatives of the club. She passed through the club with security and the club representatives, she came by us and exchanged a few hellos. It wasn't as if she had a long conversation with us. But, it was a very good meeting.
Many years ago I worked in this store and many celebs would come through. I spoke to some of them and got a few autographs. Most memorable was talking to and getting the autograph of Phyllis Hyman.

Michael Eric Dyson was my professor. Got him to sign one of his books.

Went to elementary, junior high, and high school with Marissa Tomei, but never really knew her. However, she and my sister were friends from elementary through high school.

Sat on Jackie Wilson's lap as a baby. (Anybody got a picture?!)

Spoke to and got Arthur Ashe's autograph.

Growing up I LOVED watching Soul Train and knew many of the dancers names (thanks to Right On! magazine.) Anyway, I saw a picture of one of the dancers, Tyrone (The Bone) Proctor (see Jody Watley's "Still a Thrill" video) in a newspaper and decided to visit him at the store he worked in. We became friends. Haven't seen him in years.
