Where are you hearing "Livin' in the Light?" That is one of my all-time favorite songs, but I haven't heard it in years.

I dont watch videos, or listen to the radio..........but i listen to the cable 'music choice', stations.

They play a lot of songs, we've forgotten about.........i get the name/artist, and down load the music.

I have a great collection!!
Who stays in rotation on my radio? Who else but our generation's Aretha Franklin: The Queen of Hiphop, Mary J. Blige (MJB):

  • Mary J. Blige, "I Can't Get Enough Of You"

  • Mary J. Blige, "You Can't Hide From Love"

And of course, The Queen of Conscious Hiphop, her majesty, L-Boogie!

  • Lauryn Hill, "Final Hour" (Lauryn Hill at the her finest, don't sleep)

  • Lauryn Hill, "Tell Him" (Live)

You forgot to mention one other deep melodic-singingn sista: Toni Braxton! Her latest release, Libra, is actually quite good.

I actually like this song too! I like Keyshia Cole's voice; it's really raw and gritty. Do you have the CD, because I was thinking about getting it. Though Keyshia Cole's look is very simiar to Kelis', she looks pretty in the video made for this song (Tyrese too). eyes

Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On..."

especially this part of the lyrics....

    Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you go on

    Far across the distance
    And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on

    Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Interesting that you mention this song. I never liked it until I happened on a slightly more up beat re-mix of it. That was 8 years ago, and I've kept that re-mix CD all this time just for that song. Smile

May I ask re-mixed with what....?

No Virtue, I didn't forget about you. Just been busy. Wink Big Grin What I did forget though, is that the re-mix was done by a local underground D.J. that I never actually met. I came by the cd through a friend. I don't recognize the music it's mixed with, but basically it's a little faster (more BPM's) with a slight techno feel to it. It's quite engaging. Thank you for making me think of it. I haven't listened to it a quite some time. Smile

Thank you for trying to remember..... I'm struck by a certain piece initially by the melody and arrangement.....

My Heart Will Go On..... was haunting and beautiful.... the music flowed.... I felt like I drifted along with it......

Once I learn the lyrics of a song.... if the poetry is moving and something I can identify with....

    well...

    I'm hooked.....

then it touches me in my heart and stirs my soul.... forcing my body to want to obey and dance ( used to take ballet)......

    I love music.... its therapeutic.....

and this song.... no matter how corny.... always makes me want to get up and slowly pirouette.....

    Big Grin

I'm listening to Vivian Green "Music"

I hadn't seen that. But yeah I love Amel Larrieux's music. For Real is really one of my favorite songs. I hadn't heard of her until resently, my cousin burned a CD of assorted artist and that's how I heard of her.

Anyway right now I'm listening to Miles Davis and John Coltrane: So What

It's truly unfortunate that a lot of people have slept on Jon B. He's never released an album that disappointed me, and he consistently delivers some of the best love-making songs of our time. If you play "Before It's Gone" with your lady, you'll definitely hear her hit higher notes. Wink Also play the track "AZ U" on that same album, Eek.

I love her too! Meshell is definitely a senuous sister. Some people might not pick up on the feminist (lesbian) love-making that she describes in her songs, but I do.

And let my sweet, sweet ocean caress your shore...let your heart thirst no more.

You do know that she's bisexual, don't you? Anyway, in her songs, she has a lot of lyrics about moisture coming into contact with moisture. There's a lot talk about "oceans," "water," "wet," "shores," etc. And many of her songs are androgynous; that is, you can't really tell if she's singing about a man or woman.

Sure, you can find most of the pictures featured in my avatar on the site photographersdirect.com. The problem is (well, for some, this may not be a problem at all) the photographs are copyright protected and cannot be used without permission. Professional photographers who travel the world taking these pictures have posted their very best work on this site for a fee. Other images were found just web surfing.

Awesome! Her album Comfort Woman is really nice too. The only album that I would not recommend getting (unless you're a die-hard Meshell Ndegeocello fan), is Bitter. There are few decent tracks on this album, but many of the songs are really slow. Songs like "Fool of Me" and "Bitter" are mainly about having your heart broken. But she comes back HARD with Comfort Woman and Music Jamia: Dance of the Infidels. Now, Meshell is back to doing the music that we all love.

Visit the following website to listen to a few tracks off the Comfort Woman album:

    okayplayer.com/meshell
    http://wwww.okayplayer.com/meshell

By the way, did you know that Meshell's birth name is Mary Johnson. A proud bisexual mother, Mary Johnson was born in the late 60s in Berlin, Germany and raised in Washington, DC. She later choose the name "Ndegocello" (pronounced N-day-gay-O-chello) because it means "free like a bird," in Swahili. She also joined the jazz program at Duke Ellington School of the Arts and then Howard University. And as an accomplished bassist, Me'shell has recorded with Steve Coleman, Caron Wheeler, Lenny White, Toshinobu Kubota; she has played with Toshi Reagon, The Black Rock Coalition and was the musical director for Arrested Developments Saturday Night Live performance. Ndegeocello was also one of the few bassists invited to audition for the Living Colour bass chair.

In the early nineties she was courted by Prince for his Park label but ultimately signed with Madonna's Maverick Records. Plantation Lullabies, her debut recording in 1993, featured Geri Allen, "Wah Wah" Watson, and Joshua Redman and yielded the hits "If He Was Your Boyfriend (He Wasn't Last Night)" and "Outside Your Door." You go girl!

Yes...... I am able to separate my appreciation for her musical talent from my vehement disagreement with her lifestyle choices....

The girl is an extremely talented artist.....

I just change the lyrics in my mind...

    Her music is infectious....

and she is very much in tune with her sensuality......

which for me is very different from sexuality.....

Recently I just watched all 12 chapters of trapped in the closet. R. Kelly is crazy. He's a genius, funny, but crazy. I also have been listening to anything that actually has meaning in it. My cousin just died and I try to just let it go and listen to music instead of other negative routes. One of my favorite songs right now is Footprints by TOK.
