Of course according to some, he harbors "self hate".

How much does politics count?
By Walter E. Williams
Wednesday, November 15, 2006

Blacks and Hispanics, especially blacks, are the most politically loyal people in the nation. It's often preached and taken as gospel that the only way black people can progress is through racial politics and government programs, but how true is that? Let's look at it.

In 1940, poverty among black families was 87 percent and fell to 47 percent by 1960. Would someone tell me what anti-poverty program or civil-rights legislation accounted for this economic advance that exceeded any other 20-year interval? A significant chunk of that progress occurred through migration from rural areas in the South to big Northern cities. Between 1960 and 1980, black poverty fell roughly 17 percent and fell one percent during the '70s. Might this have been a continuation of a trend starting much earlier, or was it a miracle of the civil-rights movement or President Johnson's War on Poverty?

Dr. Thomas Sowell's research points out that in various skilled trades, the incomes of blacks relative to whites more than doubled between 1936 and 1959. What's more, the rise of blacks in professional and other high-level occupations was greater during the five years preceding the Civil Rights Act of 1964 than the five years afterward.

In 1940, 86 percent of black children were born inside marriage, and the illegitimacy rate among blacks was about 15 percent. Today, 31 percent of black children are born inside marriage, and the illegitimacy rate hovers around 70 percent.

In the mid-1960s, Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan sounded the alarm for the breakdown in the black family in his book "The Negro Family: The Case for National Action." At that time, black illegitimacy was 26 percent. Moynihan said, "[A]t the heart of the deterioration of the fabric of the Negro society is the deterioration of the Negro family." He added, "The steady expansion of welfare programs can be taken as a measure of the steady disintegration of the Negro family structure over the past generation in the United States."

Moynihan's observations were greeted with charges of racism and blaming the victim. If one accepts that a weak family structure has devastating effects on well-being, pray tell us what solutions can be found by electing Republicans or Democrats to the Congress, Senate or White House. By the way, today's growing illegitimacy among whites is what it was among blacks in the 1960s.

Another significant problem for black Americans, independent of whether there are Democratic or Republican congressmen, senators or president, is the level of crime in many black neighborhoods. It's a level of crime unimaginable to most Americans and unimaginable to blacks of yesteryear. In 2005, the nationwide murder rate, per 100,000 of the population, was 5.6. Cities with large black populations had much higher murder rates, such as: Gary, Ind. (58), Richmond, Va. (43), Detroit (39), and Washington, D.C. (35).

According to Justice Department figures, blacks were six times more likely than whites to be homicide victims, and 94 percent of black victims were murdered by blacks. Again, pray tell us what solutions will be found by electing Republicans or Democrats to the Congress, Senate or White House.

Homicide is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the level of crime in many black neighborhoods. The overwhelmingly law-abiding residents of these neighborhoods live their lives in fear of assault and battery, rape, robbery and various forms of intimidation. High crime not only turns many neighborhoods into economic wastelands, but they cause the most stable members of those neighborhoods to be the first to leave. The solutions to the major problems that confront many black people won't be found in the political arena, especially not in Washington or state capitols.

So what changed all of this, "de white main", or black folks?
"Teach people how to pass a test, and you have helped them for today. Teach people how to learn, and you have educated them for a lifetime."

Will some 'numbers person' quantify this, please.

Thanks ahead of time.

Damn, dude (@ Williams)... Don't you have some ECONOMICS to talk about?

And at least if you're going to talk politics and such... CAN'T YOU FIND SOME NEW TALKING POINTS?
Really... You embarrass yourself.

It's as if he doesn't know how the history of the Civil Rights Movement, broadly speaking, covers the time period with includes the 1940's. Somehow, Williams wants to pretend as if the very type of "Civil Rights" advocacy that laid the groundwork for what is commonly called the known as the Civil Rights Movement of the late 50's and the era of the 60's was somehow separate, estranged and not the part of the same.

A. Philip Randolph was present during both periods, indicating continuity.
But Williams would rather play with STRAW MEN vs. facts.

Something is seriously wrong when someone wants to HATE on the Civil Rights Era that bad to just concoct readily contradicted BS like that. As if migrating North, in and of itself, did the trick. As if there were no "civil rights" measures taken prior to 1964. As if there was no racism faced when migrating North with Black folks trying to get jobs and make a living in the North. As if he would be writing for WHITE CONSERVATIVES had it not been for the 60's Civil Rights Era. As if Black folks were employed all over the place and entering as many colleges and employment fields due to what was going on in the 40's, etc. without the benefit of Civil Rights legislation either in the 40's or especially the 60's.

Like the Rush Limbaugh's of the 60's were his friends.

Like I said, it's really embarrassing...

Man, I hear the brotha's complaint...but again, this mess pisses me off!!!

What is NOT electing people to office going to solve for us? We are 12% of the population and you better believe that that 12% makes a hell of a difference during election time, despite what some would have you believe.

We HAVE to elect people who we pray will take seriously, the issues that are before us.

I daresay the murder rate is so damn high because people are fed the hell up! How long do you have to live in poverty before you're ready to tear someone's a$$ down! They don't have to be WHITE, BLACK OR ASIAN...they just have to be in your damned face flaunting what you are not long enough! How long do you have to watch the same old same old, year after year before you finally GIVE UP??? If young people don't see things changing and don't believe they have a GENUINE chance to make it DO YOU REALLY THINK they will be motivated to do more with themselves?

Hell, I didn't grow up around a roudy, rude crowd, but I UNDERSTAND THE ANGST MAN! If I had to live out crappy conditions constantly, yeah, I'd be just a little damned pissed off and pissed off all of the time! Anger does nothing but feed itself and a lot of people have been angry for a very long time!

People don't seem to GET that, and they don't because often they are in a comfortable spot watching what's going on! Having all that you need and most of what you want affords one that luxury. You are not going to understand the pissed off person if you have nothing to be pissed off about. You are not going to understand the homeless person who's struggling if you got a good job and a place to call home. You are not going to understand the pissed off teens trying to find their way if you HAD the guidance and support necessary to stay away from those things that would call you to your grave early. You are not going to understand the mothers on welfare trying to survive if you have a spouse who's committed to taking care of the child they made with you. You are not going to understand the ladies having abortions if you have a committed partner who will throught it all with you. You will not understand child running wild if your child has guidance and opportunities before him. You are not going to understand the unmotivated if you don't get out there to motivate them. You are not going to understand the pissed off people if you keep doing shit to piss them off daily and NOBODY CHECKS YOUR A$$!

I'm sorry...but I don't want to hear about what GOOD did the Civil Rights Movement do! The Civil Rights Movement showed people that you don't have to take mediocre shit anymore...and as good as it was, people are tired of fighting for the basics that EVERYBODY should be afforded.

Now if you want to talk solutions, TELL PEOPLE TO GET UP OFF OF THEIR IGNORANT A$$ES AND VOTE! TELL THEM TO GET INVOLVED IN POLITICS! TELL THEM TO GO TO THE SCHOOLS AND VOLUNTEER! TELL THEM TO PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR KIDS AND LESS ATTENTION TO BEING LOYAL TO A JOB THAT IS SUFFOCATING THE HELL OUT OF THEM! HELP THEM TO START AND MAINTAIN THEIR OWN BUSINESSES! LEARN TO TRUST YOUR OWN IN BUSINESS VERSUS COMPARING EVERYTHING WE DO WITH THAT OF OTHER PEOPLE!

THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT TAUGHT US THAT YOU WE CAN DO ANYTHING WE WANT TO IF WE ARE PREPARED TO FIGHT LIKE HELL FOR IT AND KEEP TRYING....TOGETHER!
Jews, Asians, and other immigrants tend NOT to worry about who's getting elected, but instead focus their energies on self improvement, and in the end, find themselves at the top in science, research, and development, and the electonic industries. If you have something to contribute, the world will beat a path to your door!

So tell me, what has voting done for you lately?

Sounds to me like "kneegrow emotionalism".

Shay - The Civil Rights Movement was an EXTERNAL FIGHT. The goal was to have WHITE FOLKS bound by the RULE OF LAW and thus IF they brutalized us or denied us service THE LAWS would be on the side of CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS and thus they would have to change their ways or be punished.

TODAY - we have a different landscape. Where as the fight of yesterday was external because "A Black man had no rights that a White man need respect" today the issue is about CHANGING BLACK FOLKS .......improving the MANAGEMENT of the human resources that identify themselves as such so that certain outcomes might be produced within the context of the BASE OF CIVIL RIGHTS that we are now assured.

I sense that you are inclined to have a "fight" AGAINST something. I saw a recent march AGAINST violence on the street that was coming from members WITHIN. In my view a march is not the proper mechanism to make change against this type of street violence. Those who are VIOLENT, terrorizing innocent Black people who live within need to be dealt with with some other means than a protest.

re: Keith Ellison

quote:
Jewish Dems Defend Muslim Candidate

As Republicans press their campaign to discredit Minnesota lawmaker Keith Ellison over his past ties to the Nation of Islam, some Jewish Democrats are emerging as leading backers of his bid to become the first Muslim member of Congress.

"Keith has recognized his past mistakes and renounced his brief association with the Nation of Islam," wrote Ira Forman, executive director of the National Jewish Democratic Council, in a press statement released September 21. "It is only the GOP attack machine who seems intent on not moving on."

That was a PRO... Here's a CON:

quote:
Not all Jewish Dems So Rosy about Ellison

We've been following the race of Keith Ellison, a former fellow-traveller of the Nation of Islam who will almost surely become the first Muslim elected to Congress this November. In our pages this week, we have a story about the support that the National Jewish Democratic Coalition is throwing behind Ellison, even as Jewish Democrats in the state legislator's Minneapolis district remain divided.

Here's another voice in the Democrats Against Ellison camp. The opinion piece appeared in the local Jewish newspaper, the American Jewish World, which earlier published an editorial supporting the Ellison.

Why this loyal Jewish DFLer can't support Keith Ellison

By FRED M. B. AMRAM

State Rep. Keith Ellison, candidate for Congress in Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District, has a history. Some argue that attacks on Ellison's history are mean-spirited, racist or right-wing trash. And yet, I believe that one's life choices speak to character and, perhaps, predict future choices.
My own history demonstrates why these words are difficult to write and why, despite being a loyal Democrat, I cannot support Ellison...

You can find that in The FORWARD.
The Forward is a legendary name in American journalism and a revered institution in American Jewish life. Launched as a Yiddish-language daily newspaper on April 22, 1897, the Forward entered the din of New York's immigrant press as a defender of trade unionism and moderate, democratic socialism.

And what PAC has the kneegrow developed in order to take care of his complaints?

Answer..................................NONE!

The groups mentioned, DONATE monies to the party of their choice, and let things develop from there.

In the meanwhile, kneegrows whine about,"de white main".

But at the same time, kneegrows BUY fake hair, 24 inch rims, "grills(gold teeth)", expensive whiskey, overpriced sport shoes (NIKE), and everything else they want, in order to ...................."LOOK GOOD, FEEL GOOD, AND MAKE OTHER KNEEGROWS THINK THAT THEY ARE DOING GOOD! 17

I digress..........................
UTB says silly sh*t... Gets busted then says even more silly sh*t. WHAT ELSE IS NEW?

Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

CF, we would not have had an EXTERNAL fight if there had not been unrest internally about the conditions and rights we were NOT getting.

I agree that we have a sordid element among us, but what people don't? There are stupid people in EVERY race.

As far as a fight, fortunately for me, I grew up with parents who knew how to protest AND bring about change. Naturally, they passed that on to their kids, so I'm about doing more than bitching and making sure the powers that be use the power correctly.
It's always amazing to me when I hear a child speak.
I WAS involved in the civil rights struggle, and was JAILED as a result. Where was his young ass? This child knows nothing about the struggle other than what he's read and heard others say. I WAS THERE!

So don't come here with this "I know everything bullshit", because I doubt if your father knew he would slip up, and get your ass!
LMAO!!!

UTB...it is clear that you didn't read my other posts about what I have done to advance US.

While I'm a child compared to you, I assure you that I'm a Woman in every way...so DON'T SLEEP!

I'm just grateful for everything I've gone through at an EARLY age, versus reaching your age and still being stuck on the stump!

You was there, but you forgot son....you have forgotten. I don't have to know everything to know THAT!

....and my father, may he rest in peace...was and STILL is VERY PROUD OF ME!
