Uganda Worried About The Number Of Chinese Men Marrying Ugandan Women
Chinese immigrants are now marrying African women for immigration purposes

AFRICANGLOBE – Contractors, petty traders, investors, and entrepreneurs from China have been pouring into Uganda for the past decade. China is a top investor in the east African country, accounting for as much as half of total foreign investment between 2014 and 2015, according to the Uganda Investment Authority.

But according to Ugandan immigration officials, there’s one major downside: an increasing number of Chinese men are marrying Ugandan women to gain residency and continue their business interests in the country.

Officials told a parliamentary committee in late November that they are seeing more and more Chinese-Ugandan couples, often in sham unions. Couples are normally interviewed before spousal status is granted and Chinese men involved in sham marriages are deported.

“But we have many who are marrying and even producing… Even our Ugandan women are accepting to [reproduce] with these men,” an official from Uganda’s directorate of citizenship and immigration control told the committee.

Major infrastructure projects like Uganda’s Mandela National Stadium, a $1.7 billion hydropower dam in western Uganda, and the highway connecting Entebbe to Kampala have all been built by Chinese companies. Attracted by Uganda’s stability and demand for cheap goods, independent traders and business people are also opening factories and retail shops selling imported Chinese goods. There are between 10,000 and 50,000 Chinese in the country, local Chinese expatriates estimate.

But now, tensions appear to be rising. Ugandan authorities are conducting more raids to catch foreigners living in the country illegally. In July, 12 Chinese were arrested for violating immigration laws.

Government-to-government relations have also come under strain. Last month, Ugandan lawmakers summoned a Chinese executive of the state-owned China Communication Construction to explain the circumstances of his company’s securing a $475 million contract to build an expressway in Entebbe.

Annoyed during the briefing, Zhong Weidong, managing director of the company, told the panel, “China assists African countries to develop. If you don’t like, it can stop; we can stop.”

I'm not surprised.  China will do anything to gain power....even marrying.  This is not new.  It is exactly how Egypt got usurped by the Hyksos-they were from Asia too. You know they were the foreigners who came to the land and deliberately married those in the royal family.  Plus it's no secret that Asians...particularly China, Japan, North and South Korea...including countries in south Asia do not have RESPECT for their OWN women.  This is a patriarchal culture invading a poor country and layin down its roots [i.e. citizenship and children].  As a matter of fact, that's how south east Asia people are so dark-cuz they had relationships with Africans before.  You can see it in Buddha.  The original one is black.  And I think the reason why  it is so well received by the women?  Cuz they think they are getting something different than what they experience with the men in their tribe....FGM has only been banned since 1992 or so.  The memory of that experience is aspiring to women to seek a new way of life.  And Asian man fits the bill since it is also around the same time China entered Uganda.

Yes  Uganda men are feeling the threat.  Can't really feel sorry for them because of how they treated African women before the ban on FGM.  If this arrangement give these women are more quality of life than what they were getting before?  I say go for  it.  Uganda can have its pants in a brunch but the real issue is what is China really doing there and how long they will stay.  And are they willing to give up this temporary financial advancement just cuz their women are marrying foreigners.  I don't why I feel this is more about male ego than anything else.  Cuz these Ugandan men are acting the same way a dog will ignore its "bone" until another dog began to sniff on it....then he wants it.  And this is exactly how I see it.   And Ugandan women see having something someone wants in exchange for something they want?  Is a once in lifetime opportunity.  They are grabbing it as they should.   But!

I agree, and would add that since African men are selling out Africa like she's a $2.00 whore to any and all comers, African women may as well begin to establish a place for themselves for when all of Africa that is not taken over by America and non-Black Arabs, will be re-colonized by the Chinese.

If African men gave a damn about African women, they wouldn't be so quick to sellout their own nations, especially to races of people who either don't respect Africans, or see Africans as inferior, or are racist toward Africans/Black people.

[I often wonder if the problems of the Black race will be solved if/when Black women band together to solve them all on our own; in Africa, in America, throughout the entire Black diaspora].
