I knew it! What a bunch of jackasses. Well, white folks better lock up their olive skinned young boys. They've got book deals already!!! Laughing and grinning all over the news like this is the best day of their lives, practically drooling over all the money they're going to make. Ugh! God, I hate capitalism! Anybody with money can be acquitted even against the strongest evidence, it was a given this child-molesting freak was going free with the shaky evidence against him in this case. They had a woman testify to actually seeing him pour wine into Coke cans to unsuspectingly intoxicate the little boy and these dipshits still found him not guilty of that. Is everyone a freaking moron these days?!?

R Kelly will go free, as well. Firstly because he's rich and secondly because no one gives a shit if you're raping little Black girls, not even Black folks. Especially not Black folks.

Wasn't Jesse just on the news hollering about the trial not being fair because the jury was all white? Heh.

Michael is innocent!!! Greedy music execs have been after him for years. Check with anyone in Hollywood. The trial was planned. Its acting!! Michael is hated by certain individuals. He is the biggest superstar in the WORLD.

OJ is innocent. He may know who did it, but it wasn't him. The glove did not fit! You must acquit! That freeloading guy is still suspect.

Now R Kelly. That dude's gonna do time. Mark my words.

Nine white, two hispanic, one asian. Eight women, four men.

It's a good thing there were no black jurors. Had there been, whites would scream and say the black juror had to do with him being acquited.

This particular case should never have been brought to trial and had little to do with guilt or innocense and everything to do with MJ.

Most of the witnesses for the prosecution had serious credibility problems, including the women who testified to seeing MJ serve wine to young boys. Much of the "evidence" was hearsay, and a strong argument could be made that the District Attorney of Santa Barbara County had been after MJ since the early 1990's.

Based on the totality of the evidence presented, this trial borders on malicious prosecution, an offence actionable under California law.

Guilty or innocent, saint or sinner and again, based on the evidence presented, MJ should never have been charged. That he was charged is yet another example of the flaws in our legal system.

Of course it was all about Michael. It had everything to do with whether or not there was enough evidence to convict Michael of child molestation, etc. No trial is about guilt or innocence. It is only about whether there is enough evidence to find someone guilty or not.

quote:

Everyone in the trial had credibility problems. Only an insane man would invite strange boys into his bed night after night. Only insane people would see that kind of behavior and simply look away. Only an insane parent would allow their child to sleep in a strange adult male's bed. They're all freaks! How many times has Michael been on television talking complete and utter nonsensical bullshit about why these children are in his bed. He's only lucky he didn't have to take the stand.

quote:
Much of the "evidence" was hearsay,

You cannot admit hearsay into evidence or include it in your testimony. It was a fairly standard child molestation case. Predators pick out victims from broken homes who tend to have emotional issues. The first thing they start screaming when they are caught is "How could you believee this disturbed child over me?!?" Short of being stupid enough to actually videotape yourself molesting a child, it always comes down to he said/she said. Very rarely is it possible to put together a "strong" case.

I agree. But that is because he's been molesting boys since at least the early 1990s and using his money to pay off his victims.

quote:
Based on the totality of the evidence presented, this trial borders on malicious prosecution,

I don't know how you can come to that conclusion. They had the testimony of the victim! They had video of Michael Jackson cuddling with the victim on camera and talking about sharing his bed with strangers' children. They had the testimony of former employees who saw lewd acts and were instructed to prevent the family from leaving the compound. They had the testimony of the former PR person who said outright the strategy was to paint the mother as a "crack whore" in the media and smear the victim as well as hire private investigators to dig up dirt on the family. It was a very circumstantial case, but that is not anything that comes close to mailicious prosecution, which implies pulling a case out of thin air.

I certainly think there was enough to charge him. For several reasons, I'm not surprised that he was found Not Guilty. The strongest case against him was Jordy's back in '93(?). He should've been charged then and sent to the slammer.
The full list of charges faced by Michael Jackson at his child abuse trial.

Count 1: Conspiracy to commit child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion between 1 February and 31 March 2003. not guilty

Count 2: Lewd act upon a child between 20 February and 12 March 2003. not guilty

Count 3: Lewd act upon a child between 20 February and 12 March 2003. not guilty

Count 4: Lewd act upon a child between 20 February and 12 March 2003. not guilty

Count 5: Lewd act upon a child between 20 February and 12 March 2003. not guilty

Count 6: Attempt to commit a lewd act upon a child between 20 February and 12 March 2003. not guilty

Count 7: Administering an intoxicating agent to assist in the commission of a felony (child molestation) between 20 February and 12 March 2003. not guilty

Count 8: Administering an intoxicating agent to assist in the commission of a felony (child molestation) between 20 February and 12 March 2003. not guilty

Count 9: Administering an intoxicating agent to assist in the commission of a felony (child molestation) between 20 February and 12 March 2003. not guilty

Count 10: Administering an intoxicating agent to assist in the commission of a felony (child molestation) between 20 February and 12 March 2003. not guilty

The jury had been given permission to reduce one charge if they feel unable to reach a guilty verdict.

Judge Rodney Melville has said they could decide Mr Jackson gave teenager Gavin Arvizo alcohol but did not abuse him, a lesser charge with a penalty of up to a year in prison.

The evidence in this case was irrelevent in the decision to charge MJ; much of it was put together after the charges were filed. In Mr. Sneddon's eyes, anything would have worked. To him, MJ was political, a career making opportunity.

"Evidence" is often not the centerpiece on which the outcome of a trial is based, much as it should be. American history is replete with examples of people convicted with little or no evidence.

Only on "Law & Order" is hearsay evidence inadmissible. In a real courtroom and under the right circumstances, hearsay evidence is admitted far too often - a lame or overworked defence attorney, a judge asleep at the wheel, a judge prejudicial to a case. Again, history is replete with cases of people convicted on hearsay evidence.

There was absolutely nothing "standard" about this case, unless it was the fact that a black man was standing in the docket.

It was a malicious prosecution because the evidence was oh so very weak, because the "victim" had a history of lying and lied under oath, because the "victim" and his family had a monetary vested interest in the conviction of MJ, because other prosecution witnesses had a history of lying.

Mr. Sneddon knew all of this before he presented his case before a grand jury. For his own purposes, he presented it anyway.

What sexual predators do or don't do is again irrelevant to this case. What MJ did or didn't do in the 90's, the 80's, when he was a kid, is irrelevent. The judge made a judical error in allowing the tape to be admitted. Had MJ been convicted, it would have been grounds for appeal.

If the trial were perfect, the only thing that would matter is the evidence presented and the veracity, the credibility of the witnesses. Mr. Sneddon's evidence was weak, his judgement was tainted, and his witnesses were grifters.

What I find especially deplorable about this trail is the press and all of the people who convicted MJ before he ever appeared in court. We do have a constitution, don't we and isn't there something in there about "reasonable doubt"?

If MJ committed fifty acts of child molestation in the past, than convict him of those!!! Don't make him stand before the court based on false accusations and weak evidence and the political aspirations of some local DA. Reasonable doubt?? How about obvious doubt?

This is incorrect. Much of what was presented was simple testimony that required nothing but an interview beforehand, which they did.

This is not true. You simply cannot get on the stand and talk about what someone else told you someone else said. Everyone in the courtroom would have to be braindead and in a coma while that was going on. People are frequently convicted of circumstantial evidence, but not hearsay.

Please. Michael hasn't been Black for years. And I maintain this case was very standard. It is extraordinary difficult to prove a rape case and even more difficult to prove child molestation where penetration does not frequently occur, the child feels shame and is not forthcoming with information, adults have been grooming the victim into thinking certain actions are acceptable, etc. That is facts.

Malicious prosecution is when there is no evidence. absolutely nothing to justify the charges. Not weak evidence.

They gained nothing monetarily from Michael. A civil case is not more easily won because of a criminal conviction because the standard is completely different in the two trials (see the OJ Simpson case). And if anything, they now stand to gain less money than if they would've filed a civil suit in the beginning because Michael is already broke and he has mounting legal fees. Furthermore, the family turned down a financial settlement prior to the trial.

Yes, everyone was lying except for poor wittle Michael. Poor wittle Michael who doesn't even normally speak in that fake ass "child voice" he so often uses on TV and sleeps with strange boys . Yeah, he's one you can trust.

No, it's not. They have a pattern, which MJ fits. This is one of the ways you identify them.

Indeed. Instead you had a bunch of drooling fangirls with dollar signs in their eyes who let a child molester run free without even a cursory glance at any of the evidence in front of them. If the trial were perfect, MJ would be hunched over in a jail cell someone getting "Child Molester Treatment" from other inmates.

At issue and the only thing that should be germane to this verdict is the evidence, the witnesses, and the veracity of those witnesses. There was "reasonable doubt", ergo "not guilty".

The possibility that MJ committed an earlier crime and escaped prosecution with his checkbook, that he held a baby over a third-floor balcony, that he had his skin lightened, his nose bobbed, his hair straightened, his personality, his voice, his music, his fans, that criminals often walk, that he has distanced himself from the Afro-American Community, what his dog had for breakfast... all are irrelevant, prejudicial, and inadmissable. We may not like all of these things but none of it has anything to do with this specific case or his specific guilt.

That the primary witness for the proscecution was a kid, hounded by the press, hounded by "weirdos", hounded by his family, is also irrelevant. False testimony is not made acceptible because the witness is a child.

A civil case IS always more easily won under any circustances because the standards of proof are less stringent and in some states, only require a majority verdict.

MJ was convicted by the media and by our prejudicial attitudes towards him long before he ever stepped into the courtroom.

Every hackneyed journalist had an opinion, most of them unfavorable to MJ. Even now they condemn the jury and the verdict. And yet none of us was there; none of these people who are so ready to send him to prison listened to the day to day testimony, looked into the eyes of the witnesses, evaluated the behavior of the court. The white community convicted him because he's black; the black community convicted him because he doesn't want to be black. Neither of these factors has anything to do with this his guilt or innocence in this specific case.

Even after the verdict, everyone who wasn't there is second-guessing and condemming the verdict. In it's survey, the ubiquitous MSN reports that 58% of repondants believe the verdict was not fair. Fair? Since when did "fair" count in a courtroom or in the media?

But the survey in and of itself is an injustice because it contributes to the perception that MJ was guilty and that he walked. Yet how many of the respondants attended the trail? How many respondants were influenced by a biased media? And finally, how many African American families have access to the internet and were able to vote? And MSN has the self-serving hypocrisy to display in tiny letters "Not a scientifically valid survey". Please excuse us. We're not responsible for our shabby journalism.

And finally, MJ may well fit the pattern but that's all it is, a generality, a supposed image of behavior. It does not preclude his innocence.

Exactly! That's exactly what I said. You were the one who said the family had a motive in pursuing criminal charges because they had their eyes on a civil case. Your exact words were: "because the 'victim' and his family had a monetary vested interest in the conviction of MJ." They certainly didn't stand to gain any money from the criminal trial. Careful, you're starting to agree with me Razz

quote:
MJ was convicted by the media and by our prejudicial attitudes towards him long before he ever stepped into the courtroom.

Have you seen the Bashir documentary Michael particpated in where he expounded on his love of sleeping with little boys? Where he spoke while holding the victim in an embrace? Have you seen the Smoking Gun documents regarding the police evidence in the first molestation case? Have you seen this man repeatedly make appareance surrounded by a gaggle of young boys? I think it's a far stretch to say that people are just being prejudicial. It is a reasonable conclusion that he would be seen as a child molestor.

There were journalists inside the courtoom who gave commentary at the end of each day's proceedings. E! also received transcripts and put together a literal re-enactment of the day's events. Fox News' Roger Friedman had a source within the Jackson camp and wrote very in-depth articles (in SUPPORT of Jackson, I might add) about what was going on behind-the-scenes and in court. I kept myself very aware of what was happening and that is how I formulated my opinions. I know that I am not the only ordinary citizen to do so. I'd imagine that most journalists covering the story would've done the same at a minimum.

The white community convicted him because he's black; the black community convicted him because he doesn't want to be black. Neither of these factors has anything to do with this his guilt or innocence in this specific case.

Again, I think you're subscribing people's personal opinions about whether they like Michael Jackson to how they feel about the verdict. I think he's a freak who hates himself, but I'm certainly not stupid enough to want to convict someone based on that alone. There are plenty of reasons why people can think Jackson is guilty or innocent that have nothing to do with what they think of him as a person or an entertainer.

quote:

What is your gripe? That people aren't dancing in the streets because Jackson is free?? Who cares if most people are unhappy with the verdict? It had no bearing in the courtroom. They run these polls after everything under the sun. They are quick internet polls. The results are not trotted out before Congress or taken into account when lawmakers are mulling over new legislation. They are a reflection of what the MSN internet audience thinks. They had a similar one after Robert Blake was found Not Guilty (and people again did not agree with that verdict).

I agree with you here, chilewillow. No, it does not preclude his innocence. But it is one more piece of information I've used in formulating my views. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, chances are...

Is that supposed to be some kind of smartass diss because I am well-informed? Please! It's called The News. Look into it.

It has nothing to do with Black. It's all about Rich. People are dazzled and frazzled by money and those who seemingly have it.
"Reasonable doubt gives a presumption of innocence" even when the accused is a duck.

Any black man brought to trial better be prepared to prove he didn't do it because the presumption of innocence is often absent. And in afluent Santa Barbara County where MJ is an embarrassment, it has much to do with "color", skin tone not withstanding.

There were political and monetary motivation behind his indictment. That MJ was indicted on such weak evidence presented by liable witnesses is a national shame.

MJ may be odd and we don't like him because he doesn't like who he is. But that still doesn't equal guilt, despite Rubert Murdoch and FOX Network News analysis.

That he had the courage to stand trail in Santa Barbara County is to his credit. The only redeeming quality about this whole event is that the jury did the right thing. And shame on the rest of us for not seeing it the way they did.
...although Michael Jackson was acquitted, in the eyes of the masses he is still considered a child molester.

.....One or more of the jurists even stated this. The only reason that Michael Jackson was acquitted is the lack of credibility on the part of the prosecution. In several other documented incidents, Michael Jackson has paid the tune of millions, to several individuals, as "hush money" in an out of court settlement, rather than face criminal indictment for his actions.

This is not the MO of any truly innocent individual, especially anyone of Michael Jackson's clout, who would have the resources to rebutt such a claim over paying over twenty million dollars in damages.

Although he was acquitted of being a child molester, in this most recent trial, the majority of people have still branded Michael Jackson as being a child molester and rightfully so.

The question being ask by many individuals, and the Media, on the West Coast, is, "Now that Michael Jackson has been acquitted, will Michael Jackson continue his old habit of molesting and/or sleeping with young boys?"

....It is going to be next to impossible, if not impossible, for Michael Jackson to change the hearts and minds of many individuals, one being me, that Michael Jackson is not a child molester.

Although he escaped conviction, Michael Jackson remains a child molester. Once any individual is deemed as being a child molester, the responsible residents of any community will go to any length to remove such an individual from their community. This would be especially true in any affluent community, composed of parents, and their children.

Sincerely,

Michael Lofton

so Lofton....if he is a child molester why don't you speak out against the parents who were willing to let their kids get molested to get MJ's money? What do you think of those money grubbing white folks who did not even take their kids to get a medical exam before the got a lawyer or waited until they thought it was the right time to present their accusation?

I am glad you are te voice of reason....do not pay attention to that negro below..he hates everything black, is probably white because he even swears the civil rights movement and Dr King's efforts did not benefit him.....and that is just plain stupid to say....if the negro is past 45, he remebers segregation....but the way he subordinates to whites....he probably longs for those days again......

....again I pick and choose my own heroes, not you!

Michael Jackson, the child molester, did not associate with Black people, or even think about spending his millions in any Black community, when he was riding high.

If it were not for Michael Jackson being faced with criminal indictment, for yet one more child molestation criminal indictment, Michael Jackson would not have had even the slightest interest in any thought of having any connection to the Black community.

.....and Michael Jackson is definitely not in the running for being one of the truly oppressed of Black America.

......now as for loving the ground that Caucasians walk on, there is not a better living specimen, the specimen being wishing he could be something that he will never be Caucasian wanna be Michael Jackson.

Sincerely,

Michael Lofton

It has nothing to do with Black. It's all about Rich. People are dazzled and frazzled by money and those who seemingly have it.

Race has everything to do with it....look at the difference between the way Robert Blake and OJ were handled....because of the interracial thing....and if you want to talk about money not being the issue....look at the brother whose truck was shot 120 times for backing out....and a white man, with a gun was shot once in the shoulder.....but if I have to explain the significance of race in america, then I guess history means nothing....but now I know why black people tend to not give a f-k what others think....because black people, particularly the poor are never given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to justice.....an accusation is just like an indictment......the jury said it was flaky...and some of you STILL swear the man molested the boys..i see it as just another case of some parasitic poor whites trying to milk a black person, just like kobe and just like the oj civil trial....but i'm kool....as a progressive black man.......I can tell how people have tried to view me....and I come from a squeaky clean family, never been a part of te system and always overacheived...it has never meant shit outside of my close circle and when it is time to get paid....we are never evaluated fairly and I expect it to always be as such....that is why black people who give a schit about what others think...particularly racist whites and self-hating negroes....have some adequacy issues of their own........but i'm kool...i'l just stay separate and apart.......

....same response,

The masses of Black people live in the inner-city, and very little of Michael's assets even touched the lives of Black inner-city residents.

Furthermore, more times than not, his charitable donations have been used to promote Caucasian causes and not Black people.

Michael Jackson, the child molester, did not associate with Black people, or even think about spending his millions in any Black community, when he was riding high.

Shaq O'neil is one of few, if any, of our Black celebrities, who has actually invested his earnings in the "Hood" to:

A. Create jobs for Black people who reside in the inner-city.

B. Improve the quality of life of Black inner-city residents.

C. be used as a source of revenue to finance business opportunities of all forms in the inner-city.

Michael Jackson's millions have yet to be used for either purpose A, B and/or C, thus the above diatribe as shared by Kevin41, is a myth, because very little of Michael Jackson's millions have touched the lives of truly oppressed Black people, the Black disadvantaged, the Black indigent, the Black homeless, the Black family structure, and/or the many Black university educated and Black working class who seek just one gainful employment to keep from using criminal activity to exist, etc., etc.

Race has everything to do with it....look at the difference between the way Robert Blake and OJ were handled....because of the interracial thing....

They were both acquitted! And both of their public images suffered! What are you talking about?!?! Public opinion is one thing. But we are discussing what happens in the trial, what influences verdicts. "Not that guilt-by-accusation schit that american society postures itself to embrace whenever a rich black has a trial." That is where I mentioned that race has nothing to do with these verdicts when there is someone rich.

and if you want to talk about money not being the issue

Brotha, are you even reading my posts?? I'm the one who said money was the central issue.

but if I have to explain the significance of race in america, then I guess history means nothing....

Race is certainly significant, but being rich will 9 times out of 10 trump everything else. How many times have you heard the phrase "Oh he's not reallyBlack, he's just Will Smith/Michael Jordan/whoever?" You cannot possibly think people immediately think Black man when they think Michael Jackson. He is right in the aforementioned category, even before his face matched that thinking.

because black people, particularly the poor are never given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to justice.....

That is the flip side of exactly what I said previously. If the rich get off, the poor obviously go down in flames.

This sounds bad, but if a parent is going to allow there kids to go to a mans house who was charged with molesting kids in the past, that parent should loose custody of that child. Lets think about this. Would you let your child go to a persons home who was charged with molesting children. It doesn't really matter if the charges were dropped neither...

Nope....MJ is black.......and the fact that he owns the beatles and elvis makes him a n-gga to many......understand....white racists have beef with you whenever they cannot feed their silly azz notion of superiority.....and when he got off......all the white people I heard say "damn"....reminds me that they do see him as black....eccentric and rich...yet STILL black....and the point I made about the 120 shots to an unarmed black man versus one shot in the shoulder for an ARMED white man.....factors wealth out of the equation....period......you know...like when whites with less income and worse credit get loans before blacks....also factors money out and leaves race as the PRIMARY factor.....so even the poor do not go down all alike.....neither do the rich.....look at martha stewart versus the enron ken lay types....she gets jail for pennies....he walks for billions.....and the accounting firm he used to manipulate the numbers....it was gender in that case......those who are not white males will eventually figure out who this society is geared to accomodate the most......
And I guess Lofton is too caught up in his own stupidity to admit he was wrong....and understand that the UNCF alone aids poor kids going to underfunded black colleges.....he doesn't understand that when I went to school at a black college...many came there the first in their family to attend college, were dirt poor and some even needed remedial courses to bridge the gap from their sorry azz school system.....and as so far as the inner city charities.....they do not aid middle class blacks...the help the poor......so if he can truly look at that list and think that no poor blacks were helped to get on their feet.....then he truly has a learning and comprehension disability..........
and that is why I found donations dating back to 1984....because I knew Lofton would try to paint MJ's donations as a diversion from the charges he faced...so that is incorrect also.....it is fun to take rhetoric and squash it with facts.....if I have to read all the shit I do to be knowledgeable.....what makes the next motherfucker think that they are going to be knowledgeable based on their self-perception and not the work they do? But he has the nerve to call me pompous....funny indeed....pompous is thinking you can make whatever you want be facts and dump that bulschit off on others as if there is validity attached to it by default......funny indeed

...more likely, blindness on the part of a Kevin41. Visit any inner-city such as Harlem, Detroit, South Central, Compton, etc., and little if any evidence exists to where millions are being invested by any Michael Jackson in these areas.

The business owners are not even Black, so thus, again the information shared is not valid, in the sense that very little of the millions in U.S. dollars or its equivalent, spent by any charitable organizations have touched the lives of the inhabitants of any South Central Los Angeles, Detroit, Oakland, East St. Louis, Harlem, Baltimore, etc.

Heck, the management of most all charitable organizations take their cut of the top first, before the first dollar reaches the indigent, the needy, etc.

......and few of these individuals set up shop in the "hood", or the individuals receiving the benefits rarely come from the "Hood". More likely the Black middleclass, Caucasians, friends of the Black middleclass have benefited. The masses who remain, rarely, if at all see any benefit.

Don't take my word for it. All an individual would need to do is visit a South Central Los Angeles, a Compton, Harlem, Detroit, East St. Louis, etc., and it would be very evident from the dire poverty conditions that millions of dollars from any Michael Jackson, or otherwise are not reaching these individuals. In many inner-city communities predominated by Black people, the business owners are not not even Black. The local merchants and business owners are Hispanic, Jewish, Korean, Arab, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, etc., while their customer base is primarily Black people.

Those so called university educated that Kevin41 speaks about are not returning to any South Central Los Angeles, Compton, Baltimore, Detroit, etc., to invest in any inner-city, which further proves, that Kevin41's diatribe is not the reality of it!

Just ask the people who live in these areas, how much of a financial benefit, that Michael Jackson, Black celebrities, and/or the Black middleclass in Black nurses, doctors, and engineers, have been to the residents of any inner-city, in any Compton, South Central, Watts, etc., etc.

I'm willing to bet their answers will be very different from the misinformation as shared by Kevin41.

The Black administrators, doctors, and nurses at "Killer/King" Hospital, which is in the heart of "Watts" are being fired, being forced to resign, etc., do to their tendency to be unethical, sleazy, blatantly incompetent, etc., so much so, that the Feds have threatened to remove funds from Martin Luther King Hospital.

The blatant incompetence of many of these individuals has resulted in numerous malpractice lawsuits, unwarranted deaths of numerous hospital patients, etc., etc.

Los Angeles County has been forced to rid itself of such incompetence or lose funding for Martin Luther King Hospital, and the Charles Drew Medical School.

Yep, it is definitely a misnomer to say, imply, or even believe that any of these individuals, in any Michael Jackson, Black doctor, Black engineer, etc., etc., have been of any value to inner-city residents.

Sincerely,

Michael Lofton

...although Michael Jackson was acquitted, in the eyes of the masses he is still considered a child molester.

.....One or more of the jurists even stated this.

Returning to the subject of MJ's guilt or innocense...

The phrase "child molester", although used in common everyday english, also has a legal meaning. By definition, one can only be called a "child molester" (at least publicly) if you have been convicted of child molestation. To my knowledge, MJ has never been convicted of child molestation and cannot be called a child molester.

If someone were to state publicly, in a speech or book or a film, in newsprint or on television that MJ is a child molester, such person would be liable and might very well find themselves standing before a court.

Of course, they could always avoid the hassle and agree to a printed retraction or out-of-court settlement.

Now, for arguments sake, let's assume that MJ is guilty of all ten charges listed on the bill of indictment. Let's also assume that all of the jurors were impartial. It's a stretch, but let's do it anyway.

Let's also disregard the extreme explanations for MJ's acquittal like, "the jurors were paid-off" and "they acquitted him because they were star-struck" Hmmm, I forgot were I was going with this... oh,

Given these two conditions, that he's guilty as sin and the jury was impartial, there are only two explanations for acquittal. First, that the evidence was weak or non-existant, or second, that the DA botched his job; he presented the evidence poorly or the defense out-scored him.

Either way the evidence did not meet the criteria of a "preponderance" beyond a reasonable doubt. And please note that this is true in nearly every case of acquittal... the preponderance of evidence did not exclude reasonable doubt. Does this mean in every case of acquittal the defendant "escaped conviction"?

The public may brand him what they will, but acquittal, in the legal sense of the word, means innocence. He's had his day in court and now he deserves a chance.

In the "eyes of the masses" (what an arrogant phrase) MJ is not a child molester. Maybe in the eyes of the majority of Americans he's a child molester but that still leaves a lot of folks who believe he's innocent.

That a majority of Americans think he's guilty... I'm not sure what that means. A majority of Americans think George Bush is the cat's meow (at least on Nov. 3 they did) and a generation of Germans looked on while six million people were exterminated.

Escaped conviction? I can't get past that. Is it a euphemism applied to every person who is found not guilty? Do people who are found guilty escape aquittal? Good grief! I hope I'm never charged with a crime. I don't have a prayer.

....same response,

**what is that same response bullschit? Man you are lazy as hell....were you homeless because you didn't get your azz up to go to work? You claim so many black people are inept and you got it all so figured out who the black people worth a fuck are.....why couldn't you do that for yourself? A critical motherfucker is always supposed to have their shit together....especially beyond the people that they are placing scrutiny on.....you damn sure do not meet that criteria.

** I love to watch your azz backtrack....now you have gone from MJ didn't give black people shit to very little of his money got to do anything for blacks...those are two different points you just made in case YOU did not notice.

How in the hell do you even know how much of MJ's money went to black people? How do you know that the amount was little. Do you have his accountant's records to show what MJ paid out? Do you have the recipient's records to see how much was absorbed in overhead and how much was left afterwards from each donation they received?

When you type that same response bullshit Lofton....you think you are being rude and frustrating.....but you are not......I know you say that "same response" bullshit because you HAVE to.....you have no way to cover your azz for the things you can not substantiate, so you have to DIVERT the converstaion by talking all that inept, treasonous black middle class jack-leg bullshit...or you DEFLECT the specific question by saying same response and giving an answer that does not even relate to the specific question asked to you.

I get a kick out of talking to you....it helps my articulation skills because it takes some what of a skill to try and bring someone's bullschit forward and put it in a legible format to then tell them why it is bullschit.

At the same time.....presenting questions to you that you have to DELFECT & DIVERT clearly helps to display those remedial azz mental tactics you try to employ after saying some pathologically self-hating shit or some uninformed, non-factual, unsubstantiated, undefendable bullshit....you out in the wind and cold butt naked Lofton and your ass is getting chapped? Whatcha gonna do?

???articulation skills, where, when,.......any articulation skill that is misleading, or unrealistic is not worth reading or listening to.

...and it is a waste of my value time to digest misleading information expressed by any Kevin41 that is not factual, concerning any major invest of any Black celebrity in the "Hood".

"With a spate of new projects, for-profit housing developers show a fresh interest in the once-neglected area. But challenges remain."

......Now who is truly telling truth. The inner-city has been neglected by the elected Black leadership, the so-called Black middle class, and the Black upperclass.

Kevin41's reality must be from another world, because the people who actually live in the inner-city know for a fact that the Black elected leaders, the Black middleclass, a Michael Jackson, etc., have yet to bring millions into the inner-city, or create opportunity for the residents of any Compton, South Central Los Angeles, Watts, Oakland, Baltimore, East St. Louis, Harlem, Pacoima, Pomona, Detroit, Newark, etc., etc.!

The only major business investment coming into any inner-city is being financed by every other ethnic group but the Black middle class, Black celebrities, including any Michael Jackson, etc., etc. If not for the investment of Caucasians, Koreans, Hispanics, and other outsiders, much of South Central Los Angeles would be as depressed today, if not worse, than after the 1965 Watts riot.

Just like Caucasian Flight from Compton, South Central, Watts, other inner-city areas, the Black middleclass ran like a "bat out of hell" away from the inner-city, and left behind the Black elderly, etc., etc.

The primary individuals being snowed by the B.S. of Kevin41, are those who don't know any better. As for being lazy, incompetent, sleazy, self-serving, elitist, pompous, misleading the Black community, truly showing hatred for the Black community, the Black middleclass including a professor Kevin41, definitely have one or more of these counter-productive characteristics, more so than any Michael Lofton.

Again, the millions of dollars in assets of any Michael Jackson, or any other Black celebrity are not being invested in any inner-city.

Sincerely,

Michael Lofton

Analysis of today's diversity news from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Reuters, The Washington Post, FOXNews.com, Slate.com and more:

"I've never believed Michael Jackson was a pedophile," writes Slate editor Jacob Weisberg. That's in part because he doesn't fit the profile"”the average molester of boys commits 280 crimes in a lifetime, one study found"”but mostly because Weisberg can't picture Jackson as a premeditating sexual predator. "Michael Jackson seems too emotionally stunted to act in any grown-up way, including a deviant sexual one," he writes. "Naive, juvenile, and terribly damaged, he seems pathetically incapable not just of criminal intent, but of adult consciousness."

Forced to work at age 7 by a physically abusive father, Jackson grew up without a normal adolescence. "Instead, Michael was made into a performing sexualized freak, a boy whose soprano voice kindled passion in grown women," Weisberg notes. "He was made to witness adult sexuality at an age when it can only have been terrifying and incomprehensible to him. By 10, he was performing in strip clubs and hiding under the covers in hotel rooms while his older brothers got it on with groupies." Jackson has said himself that his childhood was "taken away" from him.

"Almost everything that seems freakish about him can be explained by his poignant, doomed effort to get his stolen childhood back," Weisberg writes. "Tyrannized and abused by his father, he turned hyperbolically gentle and generous to children. Terrified by adult sexuality, he froze in pre-adolescent immaturity."

When asked why he spends so much time with children, Jackson said, "I haven't been betrayed or deceived by children. Adults have let me down."

Weisberg makes good points. But still, let's hope Jackson follows through on his lawyer's statement that the entertainer no longer will share his bed with children.
Michael, Frency...

WHO ARE YOU to define "blackness"?

...And it is TOTAL IGNORANCE to base one's blackness primarily upon the color of their skin!

And if you would've noticed in the "Living With Michael Jackson" documentary, during that time of shooting, there were nothing but a whole bunch of black kids (along with their families) from the inner-city invited (FOR FREE!) at Neverland!

I'm sorry, however, if MJ is not "partial" when it comes to his donations - but it's ridiculous to say that he doesn't "give back" to his own people in any way!

USA for AFRICA?...

He's done ALOT MORE for his "people" than these so-called "REAL bruthas" who flash their wealth in our faces, yet, BEG us to make 'em wealthy (in buying their music and OVER-priced clothing)! ...And what do we really "gain" from their music, besides more stereotypes and negativity?

...It's SUCH A SHAME when we consider ALL that this man has given back to humanity, yet, we TOTALLY forget that and focus on the negative (which has NOT EVEN been proven, at that!)!...

Like Jermaine Jackson said, this man should be upheld as a FINE EXAMPLE for Americans (in considering how this world view us), in all that he's done for the world, yet, we treat him like s.hit, simply because he's "eccentric"!
quote:
Thanks Lashid,

that bullschit Micheal espouses is based on his own mental affliction...

So, I see...

...He KNOWS that he's gonna get opposition and strong argument against him...

...But that's part of his "plan" in being here...

Our focus shifts from black discussion/opinion to defending ourselves against his attacks...

"They" have pulled this s.hit at BET, and they continue "trolling" around black messageboards with this mess...
"that bullschit Micheal espouses is based on his own mental affliction..." by Lashid

....as for mental affliction...

Jackson's millions, nor any Black celebrities millions have touched the lives of Black Los Angeles! I'm willing to bet strongly that none of these individuals have been kept off the street, or kept from being homeless due to Michael Jackson, or any Black celebrity's benevolence!

...and with regard to Michael Jackson's perverted life style, it would behoove any parent to keep their young sons away from the likes of any Michael Jackson.

...It is disguisting and very abnormal for any grown man to share his bed with and young boy or girl, especially any young boy or girl, who is of no blood relation.

....and considering the amount money collected in the typical Black Church, the number of charitable organizations, the so-called millions invested in the inner-city by Michael Jackson, the homeless population of Black Los Angeles, the conditions of Compton, South Central Los Angeles, Watts, should not be....which is further indication that millions are not reaching the destitute, the homeless, the poverty, Black families in distress, as depicted by the large number of documented homeless Black people, published by the Los Angeles Times, a world class newspaper.

....Heck, most all Charitable organizations intentionally will go to any length to make it appear that they are helping the disadvantaged, whether true or not, so that they can receive a larger market share of charitable contributions.

I know the game. About the only charitable organization that I will contribute to, is the Salvation Army. Other than the Salvation Army, I have chosen to personally give 100% of any contribution directly to any Black homeless individual, any Black family in distress, or any other individual from the Black community who comes across as being genuinely in need of help. Of course, this would mean I would lose the means to use this as a charitable contribution, on my tax return, because the money, the gift, etc., is not being first donated to any Charitable organization. More so than any tax write-off, it is of more value to make a point the truly needy benefit from my benevolence, over the greedy or the sleazy!

This is of far more benefit to anyone in need, than to have any "go between" in any Church, Charitable organization, poverty pimping jackleg preacher, or other group of individuals who automatically take a large percentage off the top, to which in many instances, the money intended to help the needy, instead ends up in the control of the greedy!

Sincerely,

Michael Lofton

Michael,
You WHITE poser, trying to come off as just a "black conservative"...

...I am not gonna debate with you something as silly as what is considered "charity" and what isn't, cuz when it really boils down to it, Mr. Jackson don't owe us S.HIT but to keep us entertained! ...Plus, he's done enough for his race in opening doors for so many black musicians following...

But you, nor Frency, nor any one of you have NO RIGHT to "declare" this man "black" or "white"! ...You ARE NOT his creator!

...But I will cease from arguing with you on something SO STUPID - especially when you consider ALL that this man has contributed to causes, charities, music, AND black American culture!

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE for "your people"(yeah, right!) besides constantly bicker against us, point the finger, and oppose our every opinion (yet, offer no real solution)?
Who you choose as a "hero" aint got s.hit to do with this, Mr. Michael!

Besides, I was always told that to first talk about someone (whether it be negative or positive talk), you must first be THINKING about 'em ...And we don't talk about those we dislike continuously!

Plus, instead of making it known what blacks you "abhor" (or whatever), then why don't you try praising your "black heroes" once in a while? ...Why not make a topic that is UPLIFTING to the black race, instead of continuously finding fault and picking out things to criticize?

Ya see, the reason you wouldn't "go there" is because YOU ARE NOT BLACK! ...You are up in here, on a mission to disrupt and get across "the white man's point", posing as one of us!

......again as I have stated before, I choose my own heroes, to which, the being benevolent to Caucasians over Black people wanna be Caucasian pervert Michael Jackson, Poverty Pimping Jesse Jackson, Poverty Pimping Al Sharpton, should be in prison O.J. Simpson, "Brentwood" Burke, former Congressman Walter "Felony" Tucker, Reverend H.H. "pimping" Brookins, no good serving foreign interests at the expense of Compton and South Los Angeles "no good illegal immigrant" Merv Dymally, ambulance chasing attorney Johnny Cochran, Carpetbagging Martin Ludlow, caught with his pants down while having lewd sex with a prositute in a government vehicle carpet bagging no good sleazy California State Assemblyman Kevin Murray, etc., etc., are very removed from being fit to be called a hero, or very remote from any group of individuals I would admire, and respect!

To each his own. Again, I choose my heroes, and not you!

...and as for being Black I've already proven my connection to the Black community plus, I have years of experience!

The best, most compassonionate post and assessment of MJ's emotional and psychological problems.

We don't send people with these kind of problems to prison to be "hunched over in a jail cell getting Child Molester Treatment". At least I pray to God we don't. That anyone would wish this on another human being is beyond comprehension.

But sadly, this view of justice, seems to be the view shared by a majority of Amercians. It's vengence they want, not justice and this is part of the tragedy of this whole trial.

To say that MJ lacks judgement is an understatement. His choice of "friends and advisors" is terrible. Any real friend would have grabbed him by the shoulders and shaken him 'til his teeth rattled and screamed at him about what he was doing to his life. Truely, let's pray that he follows his lawyers advice.

There is definitely nothing of merit or worthy of praise as it pertains to sleaze, treason, ignorance, or unethical and unprofessional journalism.

The Los Angeles Sentinel is just a "Yellow Journal"

..Sue the Sentinel???? The Sentinel does not have anything worth suing for. Eventually, the Sentinel will put itself out of business!!!

Many of our own elected officials are treasonous, disgraceful, and should be banned from ever holding elected office!

...Nope the only weasels, backstabbers, thieves, cheats, traitors, trash, misfits, creeps, low lifes, etc., etc., are these individuals, and the Black middleclass who praise, them!!

...and again the Los Angeles Sentinel is not worth the effort or investment for civil lawsuit. The parties being sued though, in Los Angeles Superior Court case #895188, are by far, well worth the investment, the time, the energy to be sued for damages.

....again, the Los Angeles Sentinel, is indeed a "Yellow Journal", that will eventually result in losing business opportunity, because it's customer base is primarily Black, and the Black customer base of the Los Sentinel, continues to shrink. I wouldn't be interested in purchasing a subscription. Instead I have chosen to subscribe to the world class Los Angeles Times, or on occasion, I will purchase the Los Angeles Daily News. The Los Angeles Times, and the Daily News, are more professional, would be less apt to publish falsehoods, and then not correct false information, which again, comes with the territory of professional journalism. The Los Angeles Sentinel newspaper is consider a tabloid, a "yellow journal". When The National Enquirer in a tabloid magazine is mentioned, this also brings to mind the Los Angeles Sentinel. Slim chance that the Sentinel will earn any Pulitzer prize honor for journalism. This is because the Los Angeles Sentinel does not have a history of publishing news worthy and/or accurate information.

Like the National Inquirer magazine, the Los Angeles Sentinel Newspaper amounts to a tabloid!

The Los Angeles Times Wins Pulitzer Prize honors for 2005!

...now as for promoting homosexuality, gay rights, etc., etc., this is not a subject that I would have any interest in.

Sincerely,

Michael Lofton

Does anyone happen to know the name and phone number of this women? (just kidding)

Mr. Lofton,

I believe you are far too harsh in your judgment of the people you have named. While it may be true that some of them have made mistakes and bad choices in their lives, it does not negate all the good that they have accomplished.

Each of them at some time has helped focused attention on some grievous injustice in our culture. To condemn them and everything they have accomplished for the poor, for the indigent, for the African American community, because of a sexual indiscretion or financial irregularity is a rational, logical, and philosophical error. "We are the sum of all the moments of our lives; all that is ours is in them". So wrote T. Wolfe in 1929.

One of your personal heroes may well be John Themias. But nobody knows who he is. When he climbs on top of his chair in South Central LA to condemn the self-serving nature of a congressional apology, no one will be there to hear what he has to say. It is a hard fact that it takes name recognition to attract media attention and John Themias just ain't gonna cut it.

It is a mistake to merge the man and the message. If these voices are silenced or minimized because their personal lives are not perfect, who will be left to speak against the injustices in our culture? Who will be left to speak for the poor, the indigent, the minorities. John Themias may be a perfect role model and his personal life may be above reproach but sadly, in this media age, he just doesn't carry much clout.

...in addition Kevin Murray, and/or many others use false pretenses to hold office, and most of these individuals do not have clue as to what it means to be an elected representative!

Nope, I'm one of many individuals who can prove that these individuals do not serve our community. As reality would have it our elected representatives and others in positions of influence are truly a disgrace, treasonous, and I'm not about to flip this script.

Those who have faced the reality of it, know for a fact these individuals do not represent the Black community, and it is not just me saying so!

Mr. Lofton,

Surely you will agree... and someone else made this point, that most politicians are of the same ilk, cut from the same cloth. Once elected, they seldom follow through on campaign promises. They become different people than they were when they were asking for your vote.

You are much better informed than I am about the behavior of the specific people you have named. And, if they are true, the above is not meant to excuse the charges you have made. But the majority of politicians, regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation... once elected become different people. They are ill-suited to handle the power and authority given to them and behave in a manner consistent with their own self interest. They do not act in the interests of their constituency. To believe that they will act in the best interests of the people who elected them is fanciful, wishful thinking.

I apologize if I sound pedantic, but what I have said is a given. The problem is timeless and is not specific to any one race. In our own democracy, part of the problem is that once elected, there is no way to hold elected officials accountable. We are stuck with them for two, four, or six years unless we are willing to go through the costly, time-consuming, and sometimes ineffectual recall process. In some ways I believe the parliamentary system is better, were a simple vote of no-confidence can rid a community of a worthless official.

And we all have faced the reality of it. Across the US there is hardly a community that is not saddled with some greedy, inept, incompetent public official. In my own community, we have a city councilman who has twice been censured by the State Elections Committee for taking bribes from the construction industry. And yet in November he was re-elected. Go figure!

And on a national scale we have all had to face the reality and incompetence of the Bush Administration and the thousands who have died because of his policies. At least 48% of us have no voice.

For my part, I would much rather have a President who drops his pants in the Oval Office than a President who drops bombs on children, women, and non-combatants, and sends hundreds of young Americans to die in a senseless war. But that's just me.

All of this is far-afield and has little to do with the MJ verdict. I apologize for the diversion.

Kind regards,
Chile Willow

Forget the media, what are the men and women in uniform saying?

...Thus far President George Bush is doing a very good job as president. He is not unethical, sleazy, criminal, unfit, etc., like many of our own elected officials. Evidently he has more sense than to attempt to use false pretenses to hold office, play games, commit criminal acts, betray the American people, etc., etc.

Mr. Lofton,

I've read this link before "http ://africanamerica.org/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/79160213/m/9131049962".
And this link, "http://turningtables.blogspot.com/" is hardly one you can use to justify any position. Do you have anything new to add?

Perhaps you missed what I said in my previous post. At present, we have two city councilmen, both white, who have been censured by the State Elections Committee for taking bribes in the form of illegal campaign contributions. Just censure, nothing more. Tomorrow they will take their seats in chambers just as they have done for the last four and one half years. I believe my community would qualify under what you term "any other community".

Again, you missed what I previously said. I believe I used the words "most" and "majority", not "all". "Most" and "majority", are words referencing 51%, by common understanding.

Wait! Diana Krall is singing "Why Should I Care". Give me a moment and I'll get back to this.

Beautiful!

It is impossible to "forget the media". It invades every space in which we live. Without it, I couldn't even read "what the men and women in uniform are saying".

Whether or not George Bush is doing a good job, is unethical, sleazy, criminal, unfit... is a matter of opinion. At present, confidence in his ability to lead is eroding quickly. Try going to pollingreport.com, a site dedicated to every "scientific" poll imaginable. Pick a poll, any poll; pick the poll you choose to believe (sorry, that sounds funny!). There's something there for everyone and a poll to validate most any argument.

I think this topic has about run out of gas. Have a good evening, Mr. Lofton.

"I think this topic has about run out of gas." by Chile Willow

....not likely. More likely, the Democratic Party has run out of gas, steam, supporters, believers, etc.

......and more likely the Democratic Party is running out of options to continue to fool or decieve the poverty stricken, and/or the oppressed.

Since the sixties the Democratic Party has been large and in charge within the inner-city, yet the inner-city continues to be the most poverty stricken, underserved and misrepresented, void of free enterprise community within the U.S.

Basically, the social economic system controlled by the Democratic Party, is designed to keep the poor in poverty. Democratic machine politics doomed for failure social welfare programs, using AFDC benefits to break up the traditional Black family for profit, the proliferation of drug treatment centers and mental health clinics, penal incarceration for profit, the misuse of religious doctrine for profit, etc., etc., killing any loyalty that the oppressed, and/or the indigent would have for the liberal Democrats. The programs controlled by the Democrats benefit administrators, outsiders, and not the indigent or the oppressed.

In contrast, in most all Republican jurisdictions, evidence of poverty is virtually non-existent. Free enterprise reduces the need for social welfare benefits, and virtually reduces the tendency for anyone to resort to the subculture for their existence. In a free enterprise system, any able bodied individual with the will to work can rise above poverty.

Based on performance and results, the Democratic Party can't hold a candle to the Republican Party!

The ideals of the Democratic Party have yet to bring wealth into the inner-city, and that is a fact.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to take on characteristics that generate income, as opposed to the "doomed for failure" environment as created by the Democratic Party, in a "Hell on Earth", which is used to keep the poor in misery so that the liberal community, the liberal Democrats, and self serving Black elected leaders, can generate huge profits at the expense of the underclass!!

In every jurisdiction but the Black community, the people rule in California...

....and this is what makes California a good state. Elected officials are being tried and convicted of felonies for accepting bribes. Should any judge be indicted for violating the law the "Commission of Judicial Performance" which is an arm of the people will have the judge removed from the "bench".

....in any responsible community, elected officials, lawyers, judges, police officers, and/or other government employees are held accountable!

.....again, more likely, the liberal community, the Democrats are running out of steam, gas, losing supporters, etc.

As the reality hits home with the oppressed and the many indigent, it won't be long before many individuals lose respect for the Democratic Party. Taking charge of their own destiny, as opposed to being used by the sleazy, the greedy, and/or many of these pseudo advocates of the oppressed, is causing many individuals to defect from the Democratic Party!

Have a good evening, Chile Willow

you never will have an answer chilewillow because you are not participating in a logical, objective discussion. It is just a matter of what one thinks is the truth being imposed on others. That is why I just chill on the talk and demonstrate why the statements are baseless with numbers and facts...and never even state my opinion....because even if true......it is a common tactic of those to use vague rhetoric to dismiss it without any proof of their own for their stance on the issue.....everyone knows that bush is a sorry azz president and that the country is in piss poor shape and the war in iraq was unnecessary and that bush leans with the right-wing to support anything adverse to blacks...as he did in the michigan AA case....any negro who still forges ahead like larry elder is just trying to show whites his "negroeness" as a way of feeling closer to racist whites and distant from blacks....i say let em all become right-wingers........as time goes and they no longer serve a purpose...they will all get the jc watts treatment.....or the treatment of alan keyes when there was no use for him in 2000....maybe they'll learn...and if they do not....they are getting what they deserve......

College to Lose Stamp of Approval
Compton campus is to be stripped of its accreditation over fiscal and administrative problems, threatening its ability to stay open.
By Peter Y. Hong and Rebecca Trounson
Times Staff Writers

June 21, 2005

The academic agency that evaluates the state's two-year colleges has decided to strip Compton Community College of its accreditation at summer's end because of financial and administrative problems, officials said Monday. The action threatens the 6,600-student school's ability to remain open.

State and college officials are scrambling to find ways to appeal the accreditation move and to keep the college operating "” perhaps by merging its governing district with another community college district. Without accreditation, the campus would be ineligible for the state funds that are its main source of revenue and its students could not receive federal financial aid.

Beset by financial mismanagement and allegations of corruption for several years, Compton is the first community college in California to be so threatened with the loss of accreditation, according to the California Community Colleges chancellor's office.

The state chancellor took over the troubled campus and put it under the control of a state-appointed trustee last year, turning its elected board into an advisory body.

The nongovernmental Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges announced Monday that it would terminate Compton Community College's accreditation, but not until Aug. 19 to allow students to complete summer classes.

Beyond its effect on funding, accreditation is seen as a stamp of approval of a school's quality and allows other campuses to accept its transfer credits.

If the accreditation is lost, "it basically makes the place unworkable," said California Community Colleges Chancellor Marshall "Mark" Drummond. But the chancellor said Monday that it is difficult to predict the odds of the college closing.

Drummond said Monday that he anticipated his system's board of governors and the college would take at least the first step toward an appeal by requesting that the commission review its decision.

He said one possibility would be for the accrediting agency to put the college back on the probationary status it has been on recently, allowing more time to address the problems.

If a request for review is rejected, the college could then ask for a formal appeal. During both a review and appeal process, the college would remain accredited.

Drummond also is exploring whether another college could be contracted to run Compton's scheduled courses or agree to merge with the troubled college.

The chancellor, who described himself as shocked by the commission's decision, said he had thought the campus was making reasonable progress toward resolving its problems.

"I would guess they lost patience," he said, referring to the accreditors. "Although my feeling since we got in there has been that it's probably a two- or three-year process to get the place completely up to snuff. Now, suddenly the rug is jerked out from under us."

In October, the chancellor released an audit identifying numerous problems at the college, including potentially illegal practices of steering contracts and jobs to relatives of officials and out-of-control spending in the past. It did not list names or say how widespread those practices might be.

The college has been under federal and local criminal investigations for possible corruption, but no one has been charged with any wrongdoing.

The state also called for a written code of ethics and for board members to undergo training to better understand budgets. It recommended that the college hire a permanent business officer and a new auditor, streamline its administration to give the president more power and improve ways to measure student achievement.

In April, the accreditation commission reviewed those problems identified in the state report and found that the college had made progress in straightening out its finances, but "there is still much to do to bring the college into compliance with accreditation standards."

The commission also found that the college failed to properly counsel students on transferring to four-year colleges and did not evaluate faculty adequately.

Barbara A. Beno, executive director of the community college accrediting commission, said Monday that Compton College was warned over several years about such issues as "very serious governance problems" caused by the actions of its elected board.

Drummond said turnover in management since the state takeover also may have figured in the accrediting decision.

In February, longtime college President Ulis C. Williams was put on administrative leave, which Williams said was forcing him to retire.

Compton's state special trustee, Arthur Q. Tyler, and its interim president, Rita Cepeda, are both leaving the district this summer to take jobs elsewhere.

"I think all that was probably looked at as just indicative of more chaos at Compton Community College," Drummond said.

Jamillah Moore, the state system's senior vice chancellor for governmental and external relations, had been tapped to arrive on campus in early July to ease the transition from Cepeda to another still-to-be-appointed interim campus leader. Instead, she flew in from Sacramento on Monday morning to help deal with the crisis.

"We're all in shock because we really felt we were making progress," Moore said. "I guess they felt we weren't making it fast enough.

Members of the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees said Monday that they were stunned by the loss of accreditation.

"I'm still in a daze," said board member Lorraine Cervantes, who ran for the board in 2003 on a reformist platform. "We've been working really hard trying to correct problems that have been here for years," she said.

Carl Robinson, a board member who has served off and on since 1980 and for whom the school's science building is named, blamed the state's takeover for the accreditation loss.

"The state has been there a year and a month and just really messed up the college," he said.

Robinson said the state's harsh pronouncements about the school's problems drew the accreditors' scrutiny.

News of the accreditation loss came on the first day of summer classes at the campus off Artesia Boulevard, where most students are African American and Latino.

Some faculty, staff and students gathered in the student lounge Monday morning to hear the news from Tyler and Cepeda.

District spokesman Stan Myles said they were told that the summer session would continue and that "they should not feel worried in any way."

Shalita Evans, 29, said her instructor in an ethnic studies class talked about the problems during Monday's class. Students are anxious about what they would do if the school closed and whether their credits would transfer.

"Everybody was so puzzled and stressed, we couldn't focus on class," said Evans, who graduated from Compton in 1999 and was back to take a class fulfilling a requirement for a bachelor's degree at Cal State Dominguez Hills. "Everybody was upset and disappointed, saying this was their only hope."

The college, she emphasized, "is a part of the community and it should stay open."

Willie Middlebrook, a full-time instructor in digital photography and computer graphics for the last five years, said students and faculty were being smeared for the failings of the college's administration over the years.

"I personally don't think that's fair," said Middlebrook, who graduated from Compton 30 years ago and said he thought enough changes can be made over the next few months to ensure the school remains open.

Meanwhile, he said, students can still get a good education there: "We're as good or better than any community college."

Patrick McLaughlin, an English professor who has taught at Compton for 33 years, said: "I am more disappointed than I am nervous. I just think it's a real tragedy that they would consider not accrediting or closing a community college with a long history like this one has. There is a real need."

He said he is "confident that we'll pull out of this. We have the talent here that can do this, given an adequate amount of time and a fair hearing."

Times staff writer Natasha Lee contributed to this report.

Mr. Lofton,

One of the citation in your last post, "Prison in the Cards" appears to be inconsistent with the statement you made to link to the document. I quote from that document:

"The Bush Administration has taken a do-nothing approach to the fact that the imprisonment of underprivileged African-Americans has reached epidemic proportions".

and...

"Let's make sure we're the country of the second chance," President Bush told the crowd, without mentioning how his administration would rectify the federally-instituted denial of student loans, public housing, or welfare to any person convicted of a drug crime".

An oversight on your part, perhaps?

Surely the political party in power bears some responsibility to the people to rectify an injustice, does it not?

Kind regards,
Chile Willow

The Caucasian community has known about this information for years. The Caucasian legal counsel for the LAUSD have already admitted guilt to each and every allegation as charged. Caucasians have created and appointed Black people in positions of influence to resolve Los Angeles Superior Court case #895188.

In each case, our own elected officials have chosen to join the ranks of the perpetrators, in that these individuals, speaking of our own Black elected leaders, and others in positions of influence, are indeed treasonous.

It is not the responsibility of the Caucasian community to be the first to step up to the plate in cases where they have admitted guilt, and will also be held responsible for paying out the settlement.

....and again the Bush Administration is not responsible for the demise of the Black community. The failure of our own elected representatives, legal community, church community, and/or others in positions of influence to competently serve our community have more to do with the demise of the Black community!

Our own elected officials, lawyers, and/or others are in fact a disgrace, and again it is not just me saying so!

....and again I'm not about to flip this script.

Sincerely,

Michael Lofton

Also, Mr. Lofton,

In your citation "and it's not just me saying so", the administrator of this web site lists

"Rodney King Arrested On Drugs and Flashing Charges"...

in his index of articles to support his initial statement.

I wonder if you might explain to me what Rodney King's arrest on these charges has to do with his previous encounter with the Los Angeles Police Department; to wit, the savage and brutal beating he experienced at the hands of LA police officers.

Also, I'm curious to know how Mr. King's arrest supports the authors theme that the "media's choice of black leader is abominable". Rodney King may be many things but he is hardly looked upon as a "black leader".

Just curious.

Mr. Lofton,

When I first joined this forum, I believed that you were a sincere man, with sincere concerns about the corruption within the African American community. Your ideas differed from mine, but as I said, I believed you were sincere and were entitled to your opinion.

A few minutes ago I decided out of curiosity to follow one of your links to find-out a little more about you. I came to your post dated January 16th, 2004 at 11:17 PM., the one beginning "Some people would say that I'm crazy...".

I read a few words of the nonsense you posted and then followed the link you associated with this vituperative epiphany. I was not totally surprised to discover the document referenced by the link – "Why the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Should Be Repealed" – but I was surprised when I saw that the document was created by http://www.creator.org/, an extreme racist, right-wing "Christian" web site.

I wish someone had warned me... or maybe they tried to.

This web-site is affiliated and publishes links to some of the most blatant hate-groups in world, including...

Knights of the Ku Klux Klan
Volkermord.com
Klanstore.com
Radiowhite.com
Whitelegionknights.org
White Power Forum
Aryanradio.com
Radical Hate Music
Celticreign.com
Skinburgos
Purehaterecords.tk
Retaliator Skinhead Nation...

And the list goes on and on. There are 88 hate-site links on http://www.creator.org/

That you are allowed to associate these groups with AfricanAmerica.org is beyond me. It is all the more reason that members should probably be screened.

Our conversation is finished.

...it is you who have used this material to bring up Rodney King. Rodney King, is very far from being a hero. Rodney King is a career criminal and a felon. A few Los Angeles police officers made the grave mistake of using excessive force, lying about it, and covering-up criminal wrongdoing, which was captured by video by Mr. George Holliday, a Caucasian.

....."just blows holes in misinformation,...mind you misinformation that it must be all the fault of "racist" Caucasians,

........ a good samaritan, such as, Mr. George Holliday, just doesn't exist

.......if left up to the erroneous message of the Black "racist" race card players on this message board, and other sources of "playing the race card game", a practice that is indeed useless, much less than factual, and/or very counter-productive.

Make no mistake, had Mr. Holliday not captured this video, not a one of us would know about the Rodney King beating police atrocity. Rodney King would have been like so many other Black men, receiving similar mistreatment,.......

........mistreatment as applied to just another wrongful police beating, maiming, killing, or shooting, being swept under the carpet, to which the media, the Black community, any other community, nor the world for that matter would have been informed of this atrocity, period, period, period.

Since it is you, who bring up the plight of Rodney King, and not me, perhaps I should pull more references from this link, that are both factual, and real, which are not dependent on the KKK, the aryan nation, Caucasians, racists, etc., for proof!!!

My only interest in the link, is to augment my own material, in that No Good Reverend Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Maxine "Kerosene" Waters, etc., etc., are indeed a disgrace.

"When I first joined this forum, I believed that you were a sincere man, with sincere concerns about the corruption within the African American community. Your ideas differed from mine, but as I said, I believed you were sincere and were entitled to your opinion.....

.......I read a few words of the nonsense you posted and then followed the link you associated with this vituperative epiphany. I was not totally surprised to discover the document referenced by the link – "Why the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Should Be Repealed" – but I was surprised when I saw that the document was created by This web-site is affiliated and publishes links to some of the most blatant hate-groups in world, including" By Chilewillow

..it is not what you or I believe that matters, but rather it is the truth that matters. What difference does it make where the source of the truth originates?

Corretta Scott King has even asked, or worse yet begged the FBI, and/or other government authorities to conceal the truth about Dr. Martin Luther King....conceal the fact that Martin Luther King cheated on his wife, he had mistresses, he took credit for literary writing that was not his, etc.

In addition, Corretta Scott King, wanted the Hollywood movie industry to produce a movie about the true story of Dr. Martin Luther King's life. Hollywood movie producers responded, the response being in essence, any movie about Dr. Martin Luther King, that is financed by the motion picture industry must include the reality of it, the reality of it that Dr. Martin Luther King cheated on his wife, plagarized, supported subversive organizations, was sacreligious, etc., etc.

Corrett Scott King did not want this truth to be circulated in motion picture outlets, thus this is where it stands, meaning Hollywood is not going to produce a movie about "King" that is not factual. Anyone who expects to be depicted in a good light, should make it their business to be ethical, moral, honest, respectful, or other good human qualities to begin with, to eliminate the possibility of any discrediting material, that can not be disproved, ever being published about your life.

The solution to prevent having anything published to discredit your good character or name, is to be of good character to begin with, so that no one can publish information to prove that you have cheated on your wife, plagarized, had mistresses, etc., etc. This would be especially true for any preacher. Can't on one hand talk about the sins of others, and in the same breath be a sinner in a big way yourself. A preacher must always practice what he preaches, or if not, his or her name will be dragged through the mud, and rightfully so.

....This being said, Dr. Martin Luther King, and/or others have reduced their own self worth, that can't be blamed on the KKK, volkermord, Klanstore, Radiowhite, Whitelegionknights, White Power Forum, Aryanradio, Radical Hate Music, Celticreign, Skinburgos, Purehaterecords, Retaliator Skinhead Nation, etc. It is you who made this association and not I, so perhaps you should follow your own advice!

...as if to say, the truth about Dr. Martin Luther King, has not been published by other reputable sources!

....and again I choose my own heroes, and not you! None of the heroes to which I have chosen, face the music that Dr. Martin Luther King faces, meaning information that sticks that can destroy your credibility. So far, I have been ethical, moral, honest, and law abiding, so that no one, can publish any information as published about Dr. Martin Luther King to destroy my good character! My credibility will be just as strong going in, as leaving, thus my response remains the same.

"......The district may be his heart and soul, but until recently, it was not Wesson's home "” although he has had a long history of representing parts of the district at the state level."

.......Like carpet bagging deceitful Martin Ludlow....

.........Herb Wesson is yet one more sleazy carpet-bagging individual, to which the Los Angeles Times makes it very clear from this excerpt that Herb Wesson is indeed a carpet bagger.

Win or lose, as soon as the special election, or future election, is over, Herb Wesson will move back to his true residence, which is not within the 10th Los Angeles City Council District!

.....just proves that is very easy to prove that far too many our own leaders are disgraceful, liars, fraudulent, deceitful, ignorant, un-American, etc.

Unlike Herb Wesson, I'm a resident of the 10th District, and have been a resident for well over twenty years.

Sincerely,

It is funny how someone who comes from a dysfunctional unit themselves can point fingers and name call in the manner they do. It is funny how Dr. King and the related Civil Rights movement is responsible for the entry of black men into fields they were historically excluded because they were black. Some can relate to the problems their own people had as black men yet still degrade black people as the cause of their problems. Life is funny...and I now see at this age why people who have malice in their hearts are usually dealt a schitty hand in life themselves......I guess what they do is a ploy to make others feel as miserable as they do......which does not work....that individual usually becomes more self-tormenting until the wear and tear on their bodies start to contribute to a premature demise.......life is really funny like that sometimes.......

Sorry, Kevin, but I don't see the humor in defaming a great man who sacrificed so much for other people. Even the greatest of men make bad choices and you can find them if you selectively look for them. To imply that these are the sum total of Dr. King's life just sucks and is infuriating.

His obvious purpose is to agitate everyone and because I'm new, I have to ask... why is he here?

when I say funny...i mean odd or weird...damn sure not humorous..but he is just in here as a distraction and serves no informative purpose whatsoever. He says really dumb things like Dr. King or Affirmative Action did nothing for him...It is easy to refute any and everything he says because it is all based on internal afliction and not factual knowledge...for instance, a black electrician in LA thinking AA did not help him.....read below:

The Clinton administration, in its review of governmental affirmative action policies, found that active federal enforcement during the 1970s "caused government contractors to increase moderately their hiring of minority workers. According to one study, for example, the employment share of black males in contractor firms increased from 5.8 percent in 1974 to 6.7 percent in 1980. In non-contractor firms, the black male share increased more modestly, from 5.3 percent to 5.9 percent."

A significant number of the 1.3 million black government employees owe their jobs (or promotions to managerial rank) to affirmative action. Corporate affirmative action programs (some voluntary, others reflecting consent decrees in response to government pressure) have opened up managerial ranks, though not yet the very top echelons, to minorities and women.

Any assessment of the expansion of employment opportunities over the past three decades must take into account, in Jerome Karabel's words, "how exclusionary many labor markets were in 1965 not only in high-status professions such as law, medicine, and academe but also in strategic working-class domains such as construction unions and police and fire departments." Karabel notes that while increased minority representation in the professions is widely recognized, "the record in certain blue-collar jobs is just as impressive. For example, between 1970 and 1990, the number of black electricians more than tripled (from 14,145 to 43,276) and the number of black police officers increased almost as rapidly (from 23,796 to 63,855)." A significant portion of these gains is attributable to affirmative action plans applicable to unions and local governments. Aggregate gains in employment and promotion for women and minorities have continued during the past decade, considered by some to have been a period of diminished attention to equity.

Effects on wages appear to have been modest. According to a benchmark report by James Smith and Finis Welch, "the racial wage gap narrowed as rapidly in the 20 years prior to 1960 (and before affirmative action) as during the 20 years afterward." The report argues that "slowly evolving historical forces," such as education and migration, "were the primary determinants of the long-term black economic improvement. At best, affirmative action has marginally altered black wage gains about this long-term trend."

Aggregate effects on higher education enrollments appear to have been larger. In 1955, only 4.9 percent of college students ages 18-24 were black. This figure rose to 6.5 percent during the next five years, but by 1965 had slumped back to 4.9 percent. Only in the wake of affirmative action measures in the late 1960s and early 1970s did the percentage of black college students begin to climb steadily: to 7.8 percent in 1970, 9.1 percent in 1980, and 11.3 percent in 1990. Educational gains for Hispanics have been less impressive. According to a recent report based on Census Bureau statistics, Hispanics holding bachelor's or advanced degrees rose from 5 percent of the Hispanic population in 1970 to 9 percent in 1994. (These figures exclude recent immigrants.) By contrast, blacks holding bachelor's or advanced degrees rose from 4.5 percent of the black population to 12.9 percent during the same period.

Overall, the past three decades have witnessed huge growth in the black middle class, educational attainment, incomes of black married couples relative to white married couples, and suburbanization, along with a substantial decline in overall black poverty rates. These gains are attributable to a complex of causes: national economic growth, a decline in discriminatory attitudes and practices by whites, and programs -- including affirmative action -- targeted to African-Americans. While we can sometimes trace the quantitative impact of single causes within particular economic or educational organizations, it is far more difficult to ascertain the relative contribution of each factor to the aggregate gains of recent decades.

In conjunction with other broad economic and social trends, these positive changes have led to what Seymour Martin Lipset has characterized as "growing differentiation" within the black community. On one side, there is now a burgeoning black middle class; on the other, there are the ghetto poor, economically and socially isolated from the rest of society. These poor people belong primarily to two groups: single mothers and their minor children, and young men who have dropped out of both high school and the labor force.

As numerous scholars have argued, affirmative action programs have not had significant positive consequences for the bulk of the ghetto poor; nor are they likely to. The reason is straightforward: these programs work most effectively when they remove barriers to opportunity for those who possess the credentials to succeed or who are strongly motivated to acquire them within established norms and institutions.
