The Evolution of Robin Thicke

I wouldn't have pictured you for a robyn thicke fan

Are we talking about the same artist??? The guy that I'm talking about sounds Black, at least on his sophomore album he does - I don't know what he sounds like on his debut album. Have you heard his latest single, "Lost Without You?" On this song, Thicke sounds like a cross between Marvin Gaye and Chico Debarge (remember him? ) It's really soulful, seductive, and romantic. So maybe we're talking about two different artists.

I haven't heard any of his albums, i've only heard his singles and things he collabarated with other artists on and he didn't really sound black to me. ahhhhhh chico i use to love him, i wonder what he's up to, i'll have to google that. no we are talking about the same artist-allen thicke's son done singles with lil wayne and pharrel yes i do know who u are talking about.

I know that Chico spent some time in jail, and soon after his release, Chico released two albums and was never heard from again. The same is true for D'Angelo, who along with Maxwell, is supposedly "working on" new projects. But anyway, you need to check out Robin Thicke's CD The Evolution of Robin Thicke. It's really nice. I'm listening to it right now. Check out the track "Ask Myself." Man, this White brotha is going to have a very LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOng music career if he keeps on writing and producing songs like this one. All I have to say is WOW. He sounds just like Job B on this track.

I know dangelo got into a real bad car accident and put on alooooooooot of weight as a result so the last thing i heard was that he was trying to get back into shape. i'll have to check it out then-robin that is.

I also heard that D'Angelo got into a road rage confrontation with this girl. He supposedly spat on her face or something like that. Whatever, I like his music. But when I get a chance to open the package up and listen to it, I'll let you know if you should get it. The man who sold it to me at the Bestbuy today said that it was good. We'll see. I have very high sound standards. So I'll let you know if it's good, ok?

I heard you mention janet's CD and monicas sucked on another thread so i took your advice I brought John legend today too as a matter of fact i'm listening to it right now-its pretty good. I especially like track one-save room, track 3- stereo, track 4- show me and track 12- another again. Its a pretty good CD. Alot of it is a different sound from the music on his first CD. he has some songs that have a real old school vibe to them #5 and #7 for example. it sounds like he took a little more control on this one, like its more of him and not what the label wants him to be i suppose

I like tracks four and eleven too. On this album, however, I still feel as if Legend has not reached the height of his music potential. I'm still looking for that CD from Legend that has that WOW factor, that CD that you just gotta keep in rotation, you know? He's a talented writer, no doubt. But many of the songs on the album, Once Again, sound the same. And his debut album was produced very much in the same way as this one; that is, you can't tell one song from the other.

Now you are right about the oldies influence on this album. I believe one of the songs samples the background of an old Temptations song? Overall, if you're a John Legend fan, this is a good buy. It's a great chill and relax album. And I know that Legend's White fans are going to love this album, because many of the songs remind me of the music that I usually hear being played in artsy downtown coffee houses and urban pubs. I can also tell that on this album, Legend is trying to appeal to both his growing number White fans, who tend to enjoy more concept-oriented songs, and his Black fans, who tend to enjoy more soulful and seductive love ballads. And he does a pretty good job of mixing it up. I'd give this album 3 stars out of 5 stars. If you like John Legend a lot, then you should get the album.

Monica, I don't know what is going on with her. It's obvious that she's trying to update her music to match the interests of a younger fan base. But she's sacrficing the quality of her music to do it. I used to be a dedicated Monica fan, back in the day. But this stuff she's doing now, I just don't know. She has got to find a producer who can revive her career.

If I were Janet, I would be questioning what Jermaine Dupree was trying to do for her. Critics say that Dupree did an outstanding job of producing Mariah Carey's latest CD, The Emancipation of Mimi, but dropped the ball when he produced his fiance's, Janet Jackson's, latest CD, 20.Y.0. The outcome of the CD has got everyone asking, what happened??? We don't know. And by now, Jackson has probably heard all of the criticism surrounding her music. I wonder how the criticism has affected her relationship with Dupree. Is Janet mad at him for not coming through for her, like he's done for so many other artists??? I'm sure he only wants the best for her.

I agree...i think he does resemble Jon B. I love the album but Lost Without You has really touched me....but I have Justin Timberlakel Robyn Thicke, and Diddy on rotation right now.....

But ahh..the mention of Chico....love his albums!!!!! and Maxwell is finally coming back..the last i heard was about his breakdown and him coming out!!!

Yes, I love that song too!! It is beautifully written. Thicke definitely knows exactly what women want to hear. And you're right - Sometimes Thicke sounds like Jon B and other times he sounds like Justin Timberlake. He's just a talented brother. He, along with other talented White artists are disproving the myth that "White people can't sing." Speaking of talented White artists, have you heard Fergie's latests single ,"All That I Got???" Oh. My. Goodness. I didn't know that White girl from the group Black-Eyed Peas could sing like that!!!!!!!! She sounds really good on that song. At first, I thought that was Vivian Greene or perhaps Christina Aguilara singing that song. Fergie, The Dutchess, can SANG!

Oh yes chile. Chico Debarge is so cute AND he could sing. I remember those seductive songs on his album. I was a dedicated fan. As far as Maxwell is concerned, I suspected that something might have been up with him because his last album was really depressing. If Maxwell is trying to make a comeback, then he had better come back with some really strong music. I remember his competition at the time of his success and growing popularity was D'Angelo, Bilal, and Eric Benet. But these brothas are not doing so well in terms of reviving their careers either. Have you heard Eric Benet's latest release, Hurricane??? What happened to the brotha who sang those romantic and sexy ballads for the ladies (remember that powerful song "Femininity"?)? Now that's the Eric Benet that I miss.

ok rowe i finally listened to lost without you and i must say it is a nice song-i love it! i just got his CD and its pretty good. I should've listened to you a long time ago! I am reallllllllly surprised, pleasantly surprised!

Rowe I saw this about D'Angelo today on wikepedia:

In January of 2005, D'Angelo was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and driving while intoxicated. He pleaded guilty to the DUI and marijuana charge and, on April 13, was given a fine and suspended sentence and his driver's license was revoked. On September 12, he received a three-year suspended sentence on the cocaine possession charge.

On September 19, 2005, just a week after being sentenced for cocaine possession, D'Angelo was critically injured in Powhatan County, Virginia when the SUV he was riding in hit a fence, ejecting him from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt. He has now been released from the hospital and is recovering at home from multiple rib injuries and bruises. A follow-up to the Voodoo album has yet to be released; however, in recent months, D'Angelo is said to be hard at work on a third album, tentatively titled James River.[1] After a long period of inactivity, D'Angelo has made guest appearances on several albums, including releases by J Dilla, Common [2], Red Hot & Riot and The RH Factor.

In August of 2006, D'Angelo is confirmed to have exited a rehabiltation stint on the island of Antigua and has begun collaborations with Common and Q-Tip. He also entered discussions with Jermaine Dupri on how to market what appears to be a forthcoming LP, though the official news of a release has not been made public yet. [3] Although music for his own album has yet to materialize, D'Angelo was recently featured on the song "Imagine", by Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, which was released on November 21, 2006.
