I'm not sure we've ever really had a discussion yet about the fact that the Iraq war was actually called for in the mid 1990s by Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld & Cheney as part of a plan they devised to secure America's global military & economic dominance for what they called the New American Century. We probably should have this discussion now, since back then, Syria and Iran were next on their list of proposed targets back then.

Cheney, back in 1998 or so, posited that their plans would be easier to get popular support if America suffered "another Pearl Harbor."

We should obviously look at the government's insistence on Iraq having WMDs in light of all of this. We should also look at the assassination of the Lebanese Prime Minister in that light, since we seem to be blaming Syria for it.

None of this is new, and none of this is false. You can go on right wing web sites and read their very writings from the 1990s. In the course of things, I'll make sure all the appropriate links get posted. But I for one am not loving the fascist direction this country is taking, and it's time to start getting some awareness going. Especially now that robot soldiers are on the horizon.

I completely agree with you VOX, but I also think that the majority of the Amerikkkan populous will wait until fascism is in full swing and then pretend they didn't see it coming, rather than honestly have this discussion. Hopefully enlightened more well informed one's "getting the word out" works though. And don't let my pessimism stop the convo here...not that it could. I'm not even going to stop trying to "get the word out" myself, even though I'm pessimistic about it actually working...
Oh, I misspoke: the Pearl Harbor quote is not from Cheney directly, but from the PNAC's report, like Kweli says. Cheney was not the principle author, although he was heavily involved in the organization.

This site gives a good breakdown of PNAC events, and who was involved, as well as information on possible further sources...htp://www.cooperativeresearch.org/context.jsp?item=a012698pnac

The original report, which includes the quote, is on page 63 in the PDF file linked here: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/pdf/RebuildingAmericasDefenses.pdf

Here's the organization's website: http://www.newamericancentury.org/

This information all demonstrates, beyond any question, that the justification for the war on Iraq was based on lies. That the whole idea of connecting them to 9/11 was always for a more sinister motive. All that stuff about 9/11, WMDs, those photos Colin Powell showed the UN, all of it--- bullshit. It was always planned, at least by PNAC, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld & Co., since back in the 1990s.

Furthermore, there never was any "lapse" in US intelligence on Iraq & WMDs. They always knew, at all times, that they wanted Iraq regardless.

Now, many of us, myself included, came to that conclusion back in 2002, when all of this selling of the cause for war was going on. So it's not like we needed the proof of that. But for those who didn't know: here you are.

We can bet that the rise of Fox News, conservative talk radio, & Clear Channel Communications were all mapped out by this organization as well. And I'm sure you all have on your minds, in light of the Pearl Harbor reference, the one *big thing* that I have been intentionally not bringing up. Leave us not forget the business connections between these same people and the Bin Laden family.

I've been bothered by all of this for a long time. But now, in light of the assassination of the Lebanese prime minister, just as new Iran/Syria talk is simmering, the evils of these people, and the true threat they represent to the world and to all of us, has pretty much moved us toward nightmare status. Here's hoping the European Union can put some kind of check on these neocons in the next decade or two, because no one in America has the will to stop them.
I was watching one of the free speech channels, and they documented how the U.S. has strategically established a line of military basis from Yemen, through Saudi, and now through to the northern-most tip of Iraq through taking over air force bases and other large structures. With Syria one one side and Iran on the other they would form a "T" through to Afghanistan. They are establishing positioning throughout the Middle East that could have some ugly consequences if/when they decide to "spread democracy" in their own special way. Roll Eyes

No doubt about it, Ebony...

It doesn't take much to figure out there is a greater scheme at play. One that's more than what meets the eye with just Iraq.

They're playin' this like a board game. The execution of world (resource) domination and stringing along a sheepish American (read White) public.
