All I get is an error when I try that.
I don't know why it's not playing on this site.
I get the same error too. Oh well.
In a single word...denial.
Disaster preparation is a socially necessary thing for every community no matter how its defined. However, to with respect to the issues the brother raises, there has to be a degree of acceptance of 'yes its possible for it to happen here, and to me'. We've seen on this board how even issues around the practicality of doing such is either a waste of time or time that is better served doing something else.
NYC.....Sandy........the city didn't function because of its resources...but because Google made its resources (for power) available.
And of course the (they aint' really doing anything the right way)-Occupy 'Sandy' movement (an effort in which the NOI supported and was involved in) was responsible for directly reaching out to the people in need when the city services still are unavailable and/or ambivalent on the matter.
Having said that....there are Black people who have/do teach disaster readiness classes/workshops.
I know that a few of us are prepared for potential disasters, usually those living in disaster-prone parts of the country, i.e., where hurricanes or tornados, or earthquakes are common or possible. I'm going to try to get that video to post properly and post some more because the term "Prepping" really goes waaaaay beyond natural disaster preparedness, and African Americans, of course, are the least likely "Preppers" even though we will be the most vulnerable and/or targeted group should there be mass chaos or mass civil unrest or total economic collapse in this country.
Katrina is a prime example. Natural disaster-wise, look how many Black people who actually live where such storms are a real possibility, were unable to even get themselves and their families off their own roofs to any kind of shelter, and were not "prepped" to survive for even two weeks without the modern convenience of being able to hop in a car and drive to the nearest store/etc. for food/water/medicine/supplies/etc. Look at what the first thing that racist Whites started doing in Katrina instead of even thinking of helping any Black people, they were loaded up on trucks with shotguns hunting for Black people to murder, those that were not doing that had huddled off into vigilante groups waiting for any Black person to trying to get away from the Katrina-destroyed area to come to come through so they could kill them. And, already, African Americans have forgotten about Katrina and most Black people didn't even try to delve any further into ALL of what happened that was never reported, or glossed over by the media in the first place.
How many of us are "Prepped" to ride out true economic disaster and civil unrest?
How many of us could protect our families from vigilantes?
How many of us could survive, even a few days or a couple of weeks without modern conveniences?
How many Black/predominately Black communities could protect themselves from outside vigilantes and mobs?
If there were total collapse in America, where would/could Black people go? And how?
How many Black people in America even know or understand that the only thing standing between us (Black people) and racist lynch mobs, is a piece of paper, something merely written in ink, that will be nullified the moment of economic collapse in America?
The same treatment that was bestowed upon the Native Americans to obtain this country will happen to us when the SHTF. It will become a slaughter-fest with us being the victims. There'll be no place to run; no place to hide. 43 Million Africans will not survive 297 Million Caucasians and Assorted Others hunting us down with the types of weaponry they have waiting for us.
