I bought the May issue of Essence for the story on Michelle & her Mom ... and I have to say that while THAT article was good, I was pretty disappointed with most of the rest of it.
The first 23 pages were nothing but advertisements.

I have finally taken a step into the 21 century and got an Ipod ... okay it was a birthday gift
I've already got over 200 songs on it ... Someone, please ... stop me before I buy again.

Upload tracks from CDs onto your iTunes. You'd be surprised how much you already have, or other people you know, of music you like.
By the way, I have over 3,000 songs on mine... of which about 1600 were purchased from iTunes... which is WAY too much...

Shhhhhh!! I hear he's still going through 'separation anxiety' over having to give those up ... maybe we shouldn't press him about them just yet!!

Editors are shepherds for the devil.
There is an IReport video on CNN right now that is entitled "Why African American?" In a nutshell, it's about a young African American woman that says that she started out preferring to be identified as simply an American ... until she went to college and found out that in the real world ... that just wasn't going to work all that well for her!
So now, African American is it!
At first I couldn't access the video, so I started reading some of the comments. The ignorance in the 'Comments section'.. especially on CNN usually makes my blood pressure go up so I try to avoid doing that. Today didn't disappoint ... there was more stupidity written there than usual.
One Caucasian poster responding to an African American poster declared that African Americans should not call themselves that because it simply not true .... they have no link whatsoever to Africa, so why use it in a description of themselves?
Of course, that pissed me off .. but, I got to thinking about it ... and realized that the 'link' is in the blood. And that there was no way that a shallow, superficial, pea-brain like that guy's could ever fathom that there was a connection that was more relevant, and deeper, and important than the kinds of things like he would value ... connections to a place or material objects or money. Folks like him tend to show little reverence for their elders ancestors or any historical or heritage ties.
Our link to African is in our bloodline. And, you can't get much more connected than that. And for that 'hook up' I am eternally grateful!

It is obvious that we have a severe double standard when it comes to the term "terrorist" or "terrorist activity". If a person of color bombs, shoots or maims someone, it is automatically the act of terror. If an American citizen does the same thing, it is an act of the radical left or radical right.
So I was wondering, if the "terrorist" stopped their Jihad for a moment, went underground and becsame American citizens, would they still be terrorist or would they get the same pass the skinheads, neo nazis etc get?

This is my entire beef with the media & the propaganda that is put out by certain organizations and agencies and it makes me SICK! Thank you for affirming what I had been trying to get across in a few threads.
obviously i need to get with the program, break down and get cable...I have access to 1 channel now that we've made the switch

It's good to be in my mother's house ... 85 years old [tomorrow] and still kicking.
Sometimes, we forget that home is where it all begins and why.

I don't like the President's plan for universal health care.

It would really suck to be a Black German named Schwarzenegger. (Schvarze + Negger = a playground fight every day of your childhood)
That used to bug me out back in high school, Malik (I took German in high school). I used to say, "Good thing his name isn't SchwarzeMutterFicker."
I'm sure he probably got teased growing up anyway. -Negger is close enough to "Neger," which means "Negro." I always wondered if the compound word breakdown was Schwarzen-Egger instead of the Schwarze-Negger, but I could never figure it out.

as far as I know Schwarzenegger comes from Schwarzeneck (place in Germany). In German when for example somebody is from Munich (München) you call the citizen "Münchner".
Means somebody from Schwarzeneck is a Schwarzenecker and for some reason this changed to Schwarzenegger, somebody who is from Schwarzeneck and sometimes something like this becomes a family's last name.

Thought #1
Another reason our justice system sucks royally
Vick gets 2 years for fighting dogs. Stallworth gets 30 days for DUI and killing a person.
Thought #2
I'm so tired of all these boobs, dorks and idiots on tv and the air waves complaining that Obama should do more to stop nKorea and Iran. My question is "w...i...t...h... w...h...a...t..."????
Even when our military was larger in the early 90's we were prepared to fight a war on 2 fronts.
*****News Flash"*****
To all arm chair quarter backs, we are in a war on 2 fronts with a smaller military, low morale, and failing equipment, so again I ask "w...i...t...h... w...h...a...t..."????
When Bush and the other pinheads declared that we could lauch a preemptive strike, I along with many said that would come back to bite us in the ass. Now we have more and more countries daily telling us to go fuck off. This is not because of Obama, but arrogance run amok.
Other than an obvious attack on our soil, interest abroad or ally, we should not and can not stop anybody. At our current level, taking out the Iowa highway patrol would be a daunting task.

Somebody ... anybody ... remind me again exactly why I'm subjecting myself to the grad school grind
9 more classes ... 9 more classes ...

9 more classes ... 9 more classes ...
It's so sad to watch someone so desperate for attention that they will say some really crazy stuff. Then when they don't get the attention they crave, you can almost feel their desperation as their posts become more and more inflammatory until someone relents ... just to stop the madness.
Peace...
I give this present world order about 20-25 more years...And then I think humanity at-large will be headed back to the stone age..on a very fast track.
Too many clashes of civilizations combined with a profound free flow of information will render a very very volatile future...

What ever happened to civility? It seems that the default mode for so many people these days is to be a jerk.

No home training.
I went to a 'next generation' wedding reception this weekend!
My second cousin (who I sued to bounce on my knee and comb her hair and dress like a Baby Doll about 5 times a day!) graduated from nursing school 2 years ago ... and married a doctor who finished his residency 3 years ago.
They were married in Jamaica on Juneteenth, but had the separate reception on Saturday. All of his groomsmen were an "-ologist" of some sort ... which meant 4 young Black men (5 w/the groom) on the right path and making their way in the world.
When it came time to catch the garter, they couldn't find any 'single' men among the guests!
When it came time to catch the bouquet, the dance floor area was filled with females ... young and old. But of course, I abstained!
The played a little old school in the beginning so 'the old folks' could cut our little piece of the rug. Then, of course, they went hip-hop for a minute .. but then, the bride & groom told them they preferred the oldies, so we got to close the joint down!
I had a wonderful time!! Mostly, though, what I noticed and really liked most about the evening was that I saw that so many of their friends (the guests aside from family) were there as young families - couples w/small children - and how many Dads were left with baby-duty while the Moms danced and huddled the way females do at events like that!
We always talk about the declining Black family unit - which is real and worth discussion. But, I saw the opposite in action this weekend ... Black love, Black families, Black progress and success. And it was a beautiful, beautiful thing to be a part of!
