This is a topic to post "whatever" is on your mind (random thought).

I also, thought it would be a good place to inject an off-topic comment about an ongoing discussion or debate where you didn't want to disturb the flow.

Well, It's almost Father's Day. I get real sentimental around this time, as I miss my daddy. He's been diseased for many years, but my broken heart from his death has yet to heal because I won't let go. So, Ive managed to live with it. On occasion, I've dreamt about him and woke up crying.

To you fathers out there never underestimate the influence you have over your children. If you show them love no mater what happens they will always love and esteem you!
Len...

This was the first Mother's Day I had to endure without my mom ... I made it through the day, but the day after was the hard part! Smile But, because of that, I am especially celebratory of my father this coming Sunday! I will probably try to buy up the Academy sporting goods store for him!

Your heart will heal! Remember he's still loving you from where he is just as you are loving him from here! So, the saga still continues! Smile

And a happy early Father's Day to all you dad's out there! Heart
I've never used the album feature for multiple member posts, although there is a button that I clicked for it to be a "community album". You may need to start another thread to add pictures. Perhaps the "community" aspect is limited to additional posts added beneath the gallery.
I saw this quote and thought that it tied to a number of threads.

"The first truth is that the liberty of a Democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in essence, is Facism - ownership of government by a individual, by a group, or by any other controlling power." FDR
America becomes enraged when one of her own dies at the hands of the enemy. Paul Johnson's murder is but another in what, unfortunately, may become a long string of high profile murders of Americans in the Middle East.

This up swell in sentiment raises questions about the 800 or so other Americans who have died in that region. Where is America's outrage at their death's? What's the difference in the relative indifference that we approach their deaths? Could it be that because "W" has censored the press from covering certain key elements of American deaths (like showing their flag draped caskets as they come home) that we are prevented from personalizing each American death so as to continue to give "W" a pass on his failed mission?

I bet you can guess what I think!
I saw the Tupac video yesterday. He made a comment in an interview that made me laugh. He was commenting on how a White person called him a Ni@@er, and the (White) interview responded by saying that he used the word in all of his songs. Tupac corrected her by saying, "Ni@@er, not nigga. A ni@@er has a rope around his neck and hangs from trees. A nigga, has gold ropes around has neck and hangs in clubs." (And I'll add, "and smokes trees."

But, is there really a difference?
While visiting in Charlotte, NC., I was in a grocery store where there was pork of some kind in a standlone un-refrigerated bin near the meat counter. Hmm, what kind of pork do they eat and sale in the south that does not require refrigeration? It didn't look smoked.

That would be the Deathgut brand of pork... no refrigeration required.
Why is it that people come here and take on fake identities? This is a site that, for the most part, embraces all kinds of positive, productive debate. For example, I have invited and encouraged all perspectives since day one. We've had all manner of members across the entire spectrum of ideology. Why do people feel the need to pretend to be what they are not? downT

At the end of the day, you just get "outed" for who you are anyway, and in the process you get embarrassed and lose all credibility. Why not just be who you are? It's OK to be white and active here. It's OK to be conservative. It's OK to think you know more than we do and to try to change our minds on positions that matter to us. It's even OK to be racist. Just be honest!

I think that some of the people on this site know some others and don't want (for what ever reason) the others to know. JMO

Whether identities are fake or not... in that same sense of being honest? How come people can't be honest about what they really feel or want to say... or was saying... or was trying to say (imply)...

Anyway... that's always bothered me. And gotten me in trouble (knowing or not knowing whether people were being honest). Big Grin

Sounds like a sticky, MBM. Something to put in the New Members and Issues forums, etc. (warning, information, notice) Who knows if it will help...
I was speaking less about personal identities, as much as ideological ones. I don't care if people create different names/handles/avatars etc. for themselves. That's cool. To be clear, it's disappointing though when people come here pretending to be black, for example, when they aren't. Over the years I've found it somewhat common for white conservatives to come here and create a facade of a black conservative - in an effort to try to "open our eyes" about things. downT They try to tell us how affirmative action and reparations etc. are all not to our benefit. I would so much more appreciate someone saying - "I'm a white conservative. I don't believe in anything that you do and I'll tell you why". Aside from being so much more honest, it would lead to much better debate than the subterfuge of a false identity.
I understand your perspective now...

White conserv's have never been honest, if they were there would never have been a watergate, reaganomics, Willie Horton, prez. bush 1 would have not told the country that he bought crack across the street from the white house (one of the most secure spots in the world Roll Eyes), no 911, no enron, no "war on terrorism", and definetely no "liberation" of Iraq.

With a track record like that, and I am not even scratching the surface, how, more importantly, why would you expect them to be honest here?

White people have been lying for thousands of years in order to protect their "interests"... you cannot possibly expect them to start telling the truth now. (so that no one is offended, know that I am speaking in general terms)
My ex called and my son doesn't have to deploy. He has some medical issues he needs to take care of so he is safe for now. Whenever I deployed I felt it was no problem. When he got his orders I din't like the idea at all. I know as a young man he needs to find his own way in life, so does me not wanting him to go make me a hypocrit?

I think I understood you from the start. But I will even try to give people the benefit of a doubt (sometimes) on their ethnic identities. But feigning Blackness while speaking Whiteness fluently just doesn't work.

It would seem as if they think that since they've read books by Blacks that they somehow have the perfect cover.

But beyond that... I have no love for the weasel... People who conveniently change their position or emphasis when they are met with strong opposition on their first proposition...

Anyway... I share your frustration, MBM.

Randomly... You (MBM) should never think that we question your sincerity. In the midst of debate, sometimes you lose sight that you're down with us.

Although I'm not sure whether it's a concerted effort or not, I do believe that "folks" come here with the sole purpose of stirring shit up and getting the conversation bogged down into ultimately meaningless BS to keep us from serious conversations and developing real solutions for our progress. There are a couple of members here now that I suspect of these ulterior motives. COINTELPRO lives. broscream

What I say to that (knowing I may very well fit into that tangent category) is for those who want to focus on serious discussion to do it and not use disruption as an excuse to avoid a thread or whatever "once it's gotten out of hand"...

I can change gears at the drop of a dime. Smile
It just seems that if I were 'the man' and was threatened by national and international black unity that I'd just foment tension around issues of identity and race and nationality to prevent any meaningful dialog from taking place. Think of how much BS is going on in this site lately. We're arguing about our identity with fringe 'nut cases' who clearly do not have the broader communities' interests at heart. I mean think about it, we've got people here who are trying to tell us that we're not even a race. Roll Eyes

I posted an article by an African who talked about tribal conflict in Africa. Well, if in America there are not tribal affiliations to use to separate people like they've done in Africa, then, well, let's create some "tribal" shit to divide in America.

I didn't want to disrespect the posting for Ossie Davis' funeral.

I don't know what to call it; pet peeve, nagging irritant, personal quirk, but....

This kind of thing still bothers me. I wonder which one the several contributors (writers/journalists) to the piece wrote this: "...Wynton Marsalis played the jazz trumpet,..."

It's so tiresome.

Ain't that the truth...
I'm posting this here because I can't think of another, more appropriate place.

(Please forgive the discconnectedness of this, but my head is spinning with rage)

I just got off the phone with a close friend. About a 8 months ago, she left a job to return to New York because her mother was dying of cancer. (My friend's 19 year old daughter and 1 year old grand-daughter followed her to New York.) She got there and her mother spent the next two months in and out of the hospital. The mother died about 4 months ago. With no job (although the daughter held down a minimum wage retail job) and no where to go, my friend decided to remain in her mother's rent controlled apartment until she put together some money and found someplace else to go.

Well, within a month of her mother's death, the landlord told her to get out. He locked her out. He cut off the water to the apartment. He threatened her. (All of which are unlawful) Finally, he served my friend with eviction papers. Last week, at the proceeding, the judge gave her until the middle of March to vacate the apartment.

Well, shortly after the landlord began his illegal campaign to get them out the daughter began taking her a bit of each check and prepared to return to Arizona. My friend found a job in another state that would begin where ever she could get there.

The daughter took whatever she afford, after food, diapers and other necessities, and rented an apartment in Arizona. She is only $45 from having paid the unit's 1st, last months rent plus the security deposit. She had found a $95.00 flight for her daughter and herself and planned to purchase it with her next paycheck

Well, on Saturday, they noticed that the grand-daughter was acting like she was coming down with something. At 2:00a.m., They woke to find the grand-daughter burning with fever. They hustled her to the emergency room at found that she had 105 tempature. While the doctor worked to get the grand-daughter's tempature down, he noticed the daughter's eye was inflamed and weeping. The doctor examined her and diagnosed the daughter with pink-eye. They also were told that medicaid had cancelled they medical insurance. So the hospital gave them a $300.00 bill and three prescriptions totalling $400. My friend asked for some samples for the prescriptions. The doctor's response, "We don't have any. You'll just have to spend cash." Well, that didn't go over well. When my friend spoke with the patient advocate, her response was, "It ain't my fault you ain't got no insurance."

Well, the next morning the daughter went to work - pink-eye and all. She was there about 20 minutes before she was sent home and told not to return until the pink-eye was cured.

In the meantime, my friend went to the welfare office to find out about the insurance. She was told that the insurance was cancelled because my friend had missed a re-certification appointment. When my friend told the worker that she had not received any notice of the meeting, the work said, "Oh, that's because your landlord sent the department notice that [my friend] had been evicted and had vacated the apartment. We didn't have any place to send the notice." My friend asked whether the department had tried to call her. The response, "For what? If you're evicted, you wouldn't have a home to answer the phone." My friend then, asked for emergency assistance to purchase the medicine for her daughter and grand-daughter. The department refused saying that they couldn't provide that kind of help. They would however, reinstate her for next month.

After an hour of arguing with the worker, my friend began the 8 mile walk home, in the rain. She stopped into a store to rest. While resting, my friend saw some eye-wash. She told me that her thinking went toward her daughter - "if her pink-eye is cured, she can go back to work. The daughter then could buy her daughter's medicine and eventually get back to Arizona."

Well, she pocketed the eye-wash ... and got caught. She now has a court date.

It sickens me that our system has BILLIONS for foriegn adventures, we have billions for tax cuts for the rich, all the while, we have an administration whose budget priorities push folks that already have their plates full to choose between surviving, i.e., breaking the law, or, just rolling over.

There I've ranted and vented ... and I'm still pissed.

Can anyone honestly say they wouldn't have taken the eye-wash?

If you sat on a jury, would you vote to convict under these circumstances?

Tell me am I too close to this?
This is so outrageous I kept waiting for you to say, "I'm just kidding."

Clearly, you are not kidding.

I would have been in jailed back when the hospital worker told me about not being at fault cause I didn't have insurance.

Yes, I would have taken the eye wash. Maybe two.

Seems like there should be a haven for such deserving cases.

Looking for Alternative Black Voices

I would like to invite you to join my yahoo group and participate in challenging discussions of Black sexuality, culture, race and history. I'm looking for Africentrists, Pan Africanists, Black Nationalists, Black Vegans, metaphysicians and practitioners of West African Spirituality (or any spiritual practice that isn't Judeo Christian based). I'm looking for outspoken Black activists that are Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgendered to share their experiences and perspectives. I'm looking for anyone that can come to the table with sound reasoning that can articulate why slavery is the origin of the social ills of African Americans today. I need participants that are willing to shatter the perception that money and material gain give one value. I need the small percentage of the Black population that has attempted to dismantle their vestiges of mental slavery and free their minds to join me in the debate of all things Black and sexual.

Peace and many blessings.

As much as I love my people, I still must say that our men have become pretty much useless. Many black men are just plain good for nothing.

You would be a fool to trust many of our men with any responsibility. This is definitely a fool's bet.

We have mastered the art of excuse making, and some of our women have helped convert our brothers into P zombies by allowing them to stay at home and do nothing while she works.

Grown men sleep at home at 12:00 p.m. with absolutely nowhere to be. Grown men with a giant bowl of fruity pebbles, and a game console on a monday morning, is just insane to me.

These brotehrs, have the luxury of doing nothing, and receiving the love of many of our best women, while hard working, productive men go under appreciated.

Right now there is a brother sitting on a couch, with corn rows, a blunt, a forty ounce on the table, no job, no money, with a beautiful black women in the kitchen cooking his favorite meal...

I completely fail to understand....is thug passion really that important?

Anyway...even when these brothers come under pressure to produce, they quickly demonstrate how underdeveloped they are. I mean seriously, hiring these brothers is like a punishment....

Anyway...it is just crazy as hell...

the black community needs a system for redemption...Or we need to understand why the prison industry is growing...As we are, many of our men are good for nothing but crime, and the natural result, jail time.

Once again, I love my people, however, they frustrate the hell out of me sometimes...However, I have faith that we will rise...I pray that I see this day.

We live in a race driven society.

Yes America has race issues.......and will never be cleared, until blacks in this country are treated with 'respect'.

Now just think........

If YOU are tired of hearing about it, just imagine LIVING it on a daily basis...........Yes being judge just because of the color of your skin.......gets TIRING!!!
Life is so uncertain. A woman I grew up with and knew very well died in her sleep a few days ago. She laid-down to take a nap and didn't wake up. Her daughter found her.

That's why I don't put much stock in life expectancy. There have been too many people I've known who died before the age of 50. I'm beginning to truly grasp the saying "lived each moment as if it were your last."

They start their stalking in high school.

I still wonder how companies got my personal information.
Smells can really take you back sometimes.

I got a whiff of some gjetost. A smell my nose hasn't met since I was four at the most.

I got all nostalgic and stuff and found myself grabbing a couple of blocks.

It's not until now that I remembered that I don't love gjetost all that much.

Weird texture. Ugly color. I couldn't really remember the taste, though.

I used to be intrigued by the smell. I didn't really like to eat it.

I just tried some plain. I suppose it's okay in itty-bitty quantities once in a blue moon.

It's not one of those everyday stuff and I can't think of any recipes I can sneak it into.

It seems that I'm the only one around who doesn't find it disgusting.

Ma looked at me as if I tried to poison her.

At this pace these blocks will last decades. sck
