AG,
This is not an area of expertise for me, but I would there are folks who do a lot in the area of creation spirituality in Christianity. You might want to do a search on Matthew Fox and Thomas Berry (author of
The Dream of the Earth). This is also a topic dealt with from time to time by the folks who are a part of the Sojourners community in Washington, DC as well as folks associated with the magazine
The Other Side in Philadelphia. Finally, I would suggest searches on eco-spirituality,
Some scripture which might be relevant:
Genesis 1:26 - ˜Let us make humankind* in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth,* and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.'
Dominion has often been interpreted to mean that humans may do with the land what they wish, but many theologians are now saying that it carries a strong connotation for stewardship.Genesis 9:8-9. Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: "I now establish my covenant with you and your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you - the birds, the livestock, and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you - every living Creature on the earth."
Genesis 9:12-13. And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will he the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
Leviticus 25 deals with the land in terms of the sabbath years rest with the reminder from God that "The land is mine and you are but aliens and my tenants. Throughout the country that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemption of the land." (25:23-24)
Hope that gives you a start at an answer.
