Peace....

Is there any good reason besides a wedding or something similiar, to make a point of showing your mate affection in public?

An example would be holding hands so that people will see this act, or intentional public embraces?

I definitely believe in showing affection when you feel it whereever you are.,..But doing it as a statement kinda bothers me...

is there any reason why people should show affection like this?

Confused How would you know what their intentions are??

I do not like romantic pda... whether its sincere or possibly for show.. nor do I particularly like to engage in it.. td6 (pda for children or a quick peck between lovers, holding hands is something different though.. who cares why? ... but when people are literally tonguing each other down and looking like they are about to have sex right there.. in front of your face so you have to move... ewwww that stuff is irritating) But I don't know how you would tell whether a couple is doing something strictly so others will see... unless they tell you... and who wants to study them long enough to try and figure it out?? Confused

I found this on a blog re: Presidential pda and its positives...

A few days ago I went through one question in an open forum about the value of the show of affection in public. The submitter was asking about the public show of affection by the US President Barack Obama to the first lady Michelle Obama. The big question is that is it okay to show your affection in public?

It is true that people are always eager to watch every step of the celebrities. I think that it is not good to show so much affection in public. Although I am a big fan of the first couple of US and I like them very much, but I will insist on my view that showing so much affection in public is not good.

I believe that President Mr. Obama has very high respect for his wife and I do believe that every person should have high respect for his wife. Mr. Obama believes that she is the motivating power which brought him to the top most position of the world, while she helped him to recover from bad times of his life too. Thus, showing so much affection even in public meetings and during speeches is one sort of thanks giving to his life partner.

During the campaign time we saw the affection of the Obama couple in public and even on the date of inauguration too we watched the same. I don’t think there is any thing wrong behind this. Women are feeling a bit jealous about Mrs. Obama and they are hoping that their hubbies too can get some tips from Mr. President. Mr. President sets a good example for other husbands to respect and adore their spouses.

But the question is asked just because showing love or affection is a very private and personal thing and it should need not to show in public. There are many people out there who will criticize this on the name of culture, on the name of ethics and any thing. They can cry for anything.

It is true that Obama is the most popular personality these days and his every movement is watched by almost the entire world. It is also true that with the show of affection he is giving the proper respect to the lady of his life. I would rather like to know the views of the readers of I News India on this topic.

Your question is perplexing, Whirling Moat .... 19 I can't for the life of me think of a reason why a person would want to do such a thing as that, let alone why they should. Confused

Unless there's some kind of major ego thing involved ... or perhaps they're just an exhibitionist .... which, I suppose, is roughly about the same thing?? 19

I think public affection is good if people check themselves. Having a child, I obviously would not want to see people having a full on "make out" session anywhere that child can walk in public...he just don't need to see all of that.

...and I had to bust several people in our facility about trying to make out on the couch and getting it on outside in the parking lot! Look, I'm all for keeping it spicy...but damn, Damn, DAMN! The rest of us don't need to see your tongue on her breasts or her arse in the air in the back seat!!!

I think some people do it or want their partner to do it to mark their territory. I've been subject to that and I'm not cool with that reason.

Agree with that DDouble. Ain't nothing worse than an overly possesive lover, outside the bedroom.... Wink

Hmmm .. interesting. 19

So, would you say that it is/was more a matter of ego or insecurity as to why that person did that to you?? Confused

I'd venture to say insecurity. A lot of long time female friends became "suspect" too.

Yeah, that bugs me, too!

A nice kiss for the loved one lets the world know how you two feel about each other...

But that tongue all over the face and makeout session in the lap stuff can be taken SomeWhere....lol.

This reminds me of the white people I have seen groping one another in public...

They will do damn near anything in the open...

Especially if they are drunk and on the beach....It is like National Geographic at that point...

fro Public affection is okay as long as it is not uncomfortable for the "public"....folks CAN take it tooooooo far! It should be "innocent" enough where children are not asking the "why" questions i.e. "why is part of that man's tongue hangin' out his mouth? Or why are they mashed up like that? Or...the most disgusting...."what are "they" doing with their hands?" Confused That's when it's time to go find a room.
