You can't read. TO ELIMINATE or LESSEN THE EFFECT of them. By definition, Completely Changing them accomplishes that goal. In the absence of complete changes, changes of whatever scale in combination with the ULTIMATE OBJECTIVE -- Our Own Self-Sustaining Institutions (via a process to build to that point) -- is what should be pursued.

You want to actually pose an intelligent question that advances to some actual point?

It is not experimentation....this shit is older than you or I. Behaviors an be linked to socioeconomic status...hell I know plenty of black desert trailer-dwellers who want sing in country bands and my homie in portland says that the white kids act like blacks in compton with baggy pants and lowriders....all that schit is associated with their socioeconomic status....I betcha any money that blacks and whites who are wealthy via traditional means outside of athelectics and entertainment live similar lives.....the upscale gated communities in Houston where blacks live are just as clean and quiet as those the whites live in....people in certain class levels tend to emulate each other...unless you think rich blacks are the majority of the blacks who are the ones moving in the trailer parks and you believe rich whites are the majority of whites that emulate urban behaviors down to the level of hanging out, carrying gats and drankin 40's with pit bulls around.....that is not a stereotype either...that is schit i've seen firtshand in Compton. People behave along economic lines....the propogandists have transofrmed it into racial issues to make blacks feel inferior and poor whites feel the same, but still feel they are better than a black....which gives them a level of contenment with theirs....with that, "at least i'm white and american" mindset.

There is nothing at all particular to race that can be scientifically concluded except for certain medical conditions such as sickle cell anemia or something like that. ethnic groups have patterns to their health problems based on dietary and environmental and some genetic factors, but none of that is behavior. The way races are socialized while being segregated brings about patterns of behavior, but that is about it.....when I was in japan, the children were becoming westernized based on the behaviors being pumped to them on MTV and BET which they emulated. Their genetic makeup did not change at all...for them to act black or white....which is a nonexistent term, to act a race.........behaviors are linked to socioeconomic status which in turn determines environment....do you really think the prison industrial complex is really getting a significant share of the upper middle class and upper class black demographic? i doubt it like hell......poverty drives behavior and attaches a certain psychology to some in that predicament.........

While you may be right in your description of the degrees of blackness as percieved by the media influenced populous of America, your clinical explanation is only just that--clinical. In other words you're only advocating political correctness.

There are different races and cultures on this planet for a reason--there are strengths and shortcomings of the individual races for a reason, which may be indigenous to but not exclusive to one particular race. There is no such thing as one form of right and wrong, civilized and primitive.

Trailor trash and rednecks are indigenous to trailor parks. There may be a negligible number of blacks or hispanics, nevertheless, the predominate population of people in trailor parks are white. Ghetto blacks or hoodrats are indigenous to the projects. Once again, there may be a negligible number of whites or hispanics, nevertheless, the predominant race of people in the projects are black (even though, speaking percentage wise, there are more whites on welfare than blacks).

Rednecks poison of choice is methanphetamine and beer--hoodrat's choice of poison is crack and hard liquor. Now, when you go up the socio-economic ladder to middle and upper middle class people, the differences in morrays and folkways blend more, due to education and having more access, however, once you climb into the upperclass socio-economic level it separates again.

The point is, Kevin, even though you are right in your description, you can't undo centuries of cultural epithets just because you think it's wrong. There will always be certain epithets that will be associated with certain races of people, mainly imposed upon themselves. poor people may have their uncivilized similarities but the way in which poor blacks and poor whites display their uncivilized behavior differs in some cases. The same applies to different races of people of higher socio-economic status.

If there is no such thing as 'acting black' then why is there such a thing as 'acting white' where a group of blacks label a black person as 'acting white' because he or she speaks proper english language, befriends people of other races, prefers education to ignorance, and does the right thing even if the right thing isn't popular opinion?


I have always found that statement slightly confusing especially when you challenge people on what it acting black. My kids were always challenged in school for not being black enough, but when I told my kids to challenge the assumption of what is black enough and the people making the accusation, the people being challenged had no clue on how to respond. Their only perception of what is acting black being culled from the media and entertainment industry.

I agree that the if the term "acting white" is accepted then clearly the term "acting black" is just as acceptable, while neither is adequately defined, the definition based on who is using the term and their perception, you just can't dismiss the terms because for whatever reason they are part of how we describe the lifestyle and mannerisms of people.

I posted this in the family section, and think it is relevant to this thread as well.

I just have to share the conversation between my 9 year old daughter and I this morning on the way to school. [My wife was in the car, but remained silent.]

My daughter was describing a TV commercial in with a white kid in a tricked out SUV with music pumping pulls up next to a Black couple. The white kid has his cap cocked to the side and is bobbing his head. He glances over to the Black couple and gives them the "Look at me" nod, and the then shifts into reverse.

I was familiar with the commercial; but in describing the white kid's behavior, my daughter said, "He was acting all Black ..."

I waited for her to finish and then asked her "what do you mean he was acting Black? What is acting Black?" She responded he had his cap turned to the side, he had all that gold around his neck, he had his music up real loud..."

I asked her, "Have you ever seen me with my hat turned to the side?" "How many gold chains do I wear?" "Have you ever heard me with the car radio playing real loud?"

She looked at me and said, "he was acting all thugged out."

I asked her, "Is acting Black the same as acting thugged out? She said, "No, but that what everbody calls it."

I offered, "No, Baby-girl, acting Black is when you got straight A's on your report card. Acting Black is when you got accepted to and won the 'Odyssey of the Mind' competition. Acting Black is when you picked up the cello for the first time three months ago and were selected to play a solo in the year-end concert. For adults, acting Black is when your mother and I get up every morning and go to work so that we can provide for you. Acting Black is making sure you do your homework every night and working with you on the things that you don't quite understand. Acting Black is telling you when you've done something good, and correcting you when you go astray. That segment at the beginning is precisely what stopped me from responding. There are the scant makings of an engaging thread here, but who wants to respond to the relevant stuff after it's been laced it from the beginning with all of that nonsense? Especially when the author of it is exactly the main person who's guilty of all of the things he's criticizing here, minus the nitpicky point about Kevin's paragraphs.

Too bad I don't have more time to start my blog back up again... putting my thoughts out there for comment without all the craziness was cool when I had more time. Meanwhile, I can have discussions about "acting black" at home, offline, without dealing with all of this internet psycho madness.

While you may be right in your description of the degrees of blackness as percieved by the media influenced populous of America, your clinical explanation is only just that--clinical. In other words you're only advocating political correctness.

There are different races and cultures on this planet for a reason--there are strengths and shortcomings of the individual races for a reason, which may be indigenous to but not exclusive to one particular race. There is no such thing as one form of right and wrong, civilized and primitive.

Trailor trash and rednecks are indigenous to trailor parks. There may be a negligible number of blacks or hispanics, nevertheless, the predominate population of people in trailor parks are white. Ghetto blacks or hoodrats are indigenous to the projects. Once again, there may be a negligible number of whites or hispanics, nevertheless, the predominant race of people in the projects are black (even though, speaking percentage wise, there are more whites on welfare than blacks).

Rednecks poison of choice is methanphetamine and beer--hoodrat's choice of poison is crack and hard liquor. Now, when you go up the socio-economic ladder to middle and upper middle class people, the differences in morrays and folkways blend more, due to education and having more access, however, once you climb into the upperclass socio-economic level it separates again.

The point is, Kevin, even though you are right in your description, you can't undo centuries of cultural epithets just because you think it's wrong. There will always be certain epithets that will be associated with certain races of people, mainly imposed upon themselves. poor people may have their uncivilized similarities but the way in which poor blacks and poor whites display their uncivilized behavior differs in some cases. The same applies to different races of people of higher socio-economic status.

Sounds like your disdain for racial epithets is more personal than clinically oriented. I would love to labeled as studying hard and having good grades too instead of being stereotyped as knowing how to play basketball or running fast or being from the hood or automatically being in the know on the latest slang terminology or being violent, nevertheless, we are labeled, however, it doesn't mean we have to make those stereotypes true. I tried to give you an excuse for your actions. All you've done is succeeded in showing that you are obnoxious, pompous, and perhaps need therapy!

...and be it in person, the streets, etc., etc., should anyone, be it Caucasian, Black, Hispanic, Korean, a Kevin41, etc.,etc. show disrespect towards me, the same or equivalent disrespect will be shown in return.

Same response, ......as if the illegal immigrant status of no good illegal immigrant Merv Dymally is the key theme of any of the material posted.
