Speaks for itself. The right to a LIFE precludes all others.
Too bad most right-to-lifers' concern about human life seems to ends with birth. Their position would have a much stronger moral basis if they also were the greatest proponents of adoption, pre-school programs like Head Start, affordable health care for all, stronger public schools, even welfare/AFDC because it supports children, etc. As it is now, many of the same people that are hardcore RTLers are the very same people against distributing condoms in schools, increasing sex education for young people, etc. Go figure . . .
There is no passion to be found playing small, in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living. - Mandela
And it is the right-to-lifers that come from the religious right that has for centuries held contempt for the female and even more contempt for feminine sexuality. While the preach and protest against abortion of any kind, let alone this dr. frankenstein abortion, there is never any protest coming from them against socially conditioning the human race into believing that women are supposed to be assexual human beings that show no sign of sexual exploits outside of matrimony and any who do should suffer psychological and social stoning. Women have surrendered their natural femine instinct that says "we don't eat our young" in order to fit into (or appear to) the assexual box designed by religous dogma centuries ago and enforced it social and cultural derivatives. The world has been socially conditioned to veiw all women through "madonna-whore" lenses contingent upon evidence of sexual activity and overall human ignorance of human sexuality, especially when it comes to women. In an effort to stay as close to (or appear to) the "madonna" side of this equation, women will go to great lenghts to get rid of any or conclusive evidence of sexual activity. Abortion is one lenght that women will go to. Until society changes it views of feminine sexuality, abortions will continue and the longer it continues, the more numb women and society will become to the acuality of abortions.
I agree with all the responses thus far. I am in favor of my wife's right to choose. I am in favor of my daughter's right to choose, I am in favor of my granddaughter's right to choose. I INSIST on it. Clearly, I have to be in favor of a woman's right to choose.
The picture is interesting. Have you ever seen in-situ surgery on an unborn?? It would be equally shocking to the uninitiateted. I think sunnubian undressed these folks.
As MBM said,"Where are they when the children need them?"
You are who you say you are. Your children are who you say you are.
It appears that the more vocal men on this side of the board have weighed in on this matter, with all due respsect to their opinion, I am curious as to why more women have not addressed the matter in this forum.
Our Empowerment, the ladies have discussed this on Sista's Spot already. But I personally don't believe in it. I find that the pro-life segment who disagree with the procedure are mostly white males who are keenly aware that the white birthrate has steadily decreased to the point where there has been minimal population growth in White countries. A big proponent against abortion who happens to be a Right-Wing Christian, is Pat Buchanan and he wrote a book about it called "Death of the West". He not only outlines the decline of the "west" and one of his main arguements is that birth control is contributing to the decline of the white population and he implies that the moral values of others who are not Western are going to ruin "western" society. If that's not racist I don't know what is! For the most part this is the root cause of the anti-abortion and anti-birth control movement in this country.
Our people have made the mistake of confusing the methods with the objectives. As long as we agree on objectives, we should never fall out with each other just because we believe in different methods, or tactics, or strategy. We have to keep in mind at all times that we are not fighting for separation. We are fighting for recognition as free humans in this society Malcolm X, 1965
