My question is: What is causing these small town, people to mass kill in these small towns? What fueling their rage against people they probably already know?
You know, Cholly ..... I started having the same thought ... especially after the "mental issues" excuse got tossed into the picture. And not that he wasn't/isn't mentally ill ... but, much about his behavior shows a certain level of calculation and premeditation. And not a "Snap! I'm irrationally insane all of a sudden"! type of action.
I was thinking about the Chicago-street-corner-type murders (read: Black-on-Black crime) ... and as "insane" as that is ... most of the time, the murderer is NOT insane/mentally ill (as clinically defined) ... but DOES, obviously, have problems (emotional/social/the lack of maturity) to where so heartlessly and arbitrarily taking another's life is done without regard, thought or remorse. At least at the time they are committing the crime.
Our children are (generally) NOT insane ... but, angry, vindictive, thoughtless, maybe even cruel and/or unfeeling. But, usually, there is one intended target ... for which they have wrongly and irrationally determined performed some sort of (irrelevant) slight against them ... and, as a matter of "payback/revenge" that "person/target" gets marked for death ... and is shot and killed.
However .... these young, White, "he'd-never-do-anything-like-that" nice, personable, "all-American" boys are picking up guns and intentionally going into crowded, highly-populated areas of strangers and shooting to kill people that they don't even know .... that have never directly done anything to them.
And for that, they must be "insane" ... but, it seems to me that they, too, are also suffering from the same sort of feelings of anger, revenge, thoughtlessness and/or cruelty. They just decide to take it out on more -and innocent - people. But the underlying emotional recesses and lack of reasoning are basically the same.
While I certainly wouldn't rule out there being a degree of "insanity" relating to these mass-murders .... I also wonder if, perhaps, they are more in their "right mind" than they are given credit for. But, what's NOT being addressed is that a lot of these "normal, but quiet, 'he was such a nice boy'" murderers are simply being influenced to kill by the uncontrolled amount of violence, murder and cruelty they see and live with daily through the media, internet and video games.
That these nice, quiet "I'm nobody" individuals aren't rationally deciding to "make a name for themselves", be "somebody" for the only time in their lives ... going down in "infamous" history for committing unspeakable crimes, which untold numbers of people will never be able to FORGET who they are and what they've done.
While I do believe there is an evil/sickness in ANYONE that can look another person in the eye and kill them without conscious or remorse ... I do believe Caucasians are much more prone to this mentality than anybody else. (After all, they've been doing it for millennia longer than any other race of people!! )
But .... just as easily as this child-murder could have been "insane" ... he could have just as easily simply been in full control of his faculties, yet pissed off (at his mother ... or the still-missing ex-girlfriend), jealous, felt slighted, revengeful, or wanted notoriety or a sense of importance ... or, on some irrational level simply wanted to emulate/recreate the "intended-to-be-like-real-life" type of violence and evil that is rampant in today's movies, TV, internet, video games ... so that he could finally feel a sense of power.
And let's not forget the totally wide-open, easy-access and availability of the legally-owned and purchased, personal-use, semi-automatic assault weapons they are using on innocent strangers ... hurting people with no personal relationship connection with them whatsoever, with guns that are in the home, theirs and legal to have.
The same story of which could be applied to ALL of the senseless mass-murders that have taken place, just this year alone. There have been at least five or six. And the year's not over. We can only hope that such carnage is.
They throw out that "he's got mental issues" label like it's some kind of given. Like that's the only thing people can believe about someone who would do something like this. But I'm not buying it, wholesale, for every instance of this kind of circumstances.
I chalk some of these White-boy committed acts of mass murder to the same kind of senselessness of some of the Black gang-committed individual killings ... youth, ignorance, a lack of compassion, unreasonable and unrelenting violent influences, and just basic societal decline.
