I can't imagine the mentality of a person who would (seriously) express such a conclusion.

When I was in school, I would have considered such a visit by the POTUS as an outstandingly lifting experience.

I now have grandchildren in (public) school.

I would consider such a visit to their class room a wondrous occasion.

Encouragement to do your best...stay in school...apply yourself is what I/we all encourage for our children.

Who would interpret such a visit a 'political encroachment' on the lives of those children?????????

WTF?!? Confused

The more I read really, really, really stupid ass shit like this, the more convinced I am of how right I was 15 years ago, when I said this country would cease to exist in 30 years. We're obviously too stupid a country to sustain much longer.

In fact, what was George Bush doing when he first learned of the 9-11 attacks?

For those who don't remember, he was reading to some school children.

To my knowledge, a presidential visit to a classroom has never been controversial up to this point .... except perhaps when vice-president Quayle misspelled "potato" ...

Stupid and pathetic. Must be a member of the Sarah Palin Fan Club.......
There was apparently, some hoopla because there is/was an accompanying worksheet for children to discuss the presidents speech and what he is asking of them. Radio meatheads are spewing mindlessness in an attempt to say the worsheets are indoctrinating children by asking "how can i help the president?" or some such.

But, as has been mentioned, Dubya was in the classroom during 9/11, and every president back to Reagan have visited classrooms, not to mention numerous congressmen and astronouts making the school rounds.

a friend, huh? sck

fro Let's just SAY IT! They're doing this cuz he's BLACK! Straight. No chaser. There is no other reason for this bullshyte. They are just mad/stupid angry...beside themselves...that we have a Black President. They are mad that he was smarter in his campaign...and used all avenues of commuciation to win. And this is the lowest of lows. Lower than the idiot who bit off a health care protestor's finger recently. I'm just praying that the average thinking voter/parent/citizen can SEE through this and NOT be lead by the slithering of this white-wing racist propaganda. I hope that young folks are taking a mental note...cuz they are smart as a whip. And see for themselves what is actually happening before their eyes. And will understand and know....what a real hero is...by what they do...NOT by what they say....but!

I have been decorating my facebook page after this fashion. I had a elementary/high school friend express how much I had changed in the 20+ years since we had seen each other. I guess he thought those black fist and black panthers I used to draw on my notebook, our my presentation on Malcolm X in social studies were aberrations.

Hmm' I might have to wear my dashiki on the first day of class. daz
I'm convinced that there is a group of people, sitting around in a 1970s decorated room [picture ... beanbag chairs, lava lap and blacklight posters with a Pink Floyd/Maggot brain compilation playing in the background] smoking dope/doing lines of coke/snorting meth, while doing shots of Tequila saying to each other: "Those a$$holes'll believe anything. Okay. Okay. [taking a long hit] You think that was some crazy sh!t? Watch this ... {In a hushed tone} 'Hey america [insert wildest, most unbelievable crap that you can think of]'"

And the a$$holes don't disappoint.

Yep ... the Revolution is NOW!!! You got that right! Because there's all manner of stupid jumpin' off from these White folks that are not ready to handle a Black man NOR change!!! They want the White-privileged status quo to continue as it has since the genocidal founding of this country. Roll Eyes And some of them will probably not be willing to give it up without a fight!

Well ... now they got BOTH!! A Black man ... and CHANGE!!! Of course the media is focusing on the controversy ... but, I'm thinking there are a number of people (of all (other) races) that are going to be more than willing to watch and allow they're children to receive a message about the importance of education from the President of the United States!!

And these bumpkins REALLY need to go sit down somewhere ... and count corn ... or chickens ... or watch paint dry ... or whatever the hell it is that they do for entertainment! 'Cause it's a whole 'nother story this time around!! fro WE got dogs and hoses and guns and bad attitudes, too ... if they really wanna get down like that! karate Big Grin

Why should I or anyone here be surprised about this? I mean, when President Obama was getting inaugurated earlier this year, there were schoolchildren in my hometown who sat in an alternate room without a TV (recommended by their parents [who obviously voted for McCain]) to keep from seeing this historical event.

Now bigots don't their children see Obama make a speech about education? 17 are these idiots SMOKING/DRINKING/SNORTING ?

I joked before that the mainstream (i.e. white) population preferred white idiocy over black intelligence in their political leaders (e.g. G.W. Bush, Dan Quayle, etc.) several times, to explain why Bush Jr. had two terms without impeachment.

Now, hearing about this hot mess of fear of this upcoming speech, it may be not a joke, but the actual truth. Their sheets and hoods are really showing.
I don't think one 30 minute speech is going to affect any vaguely normal kids. I would consider the typical grade school or high school history book more propagandistic than that.

I remember one of my history books from about 6th grade. On the cover was this long line of people receding to the horizon in the background. Near the front was this "BRAVE" American pioneer. Of course EVERYBODY in this line was White. I remember staring at the cover of that book for a long time. It comes across like thae only people on tha planet that matter are the White ones. So all of the White people bitching about Obama's speech are just advertising how full of crap they are as far as I am concerned.

um
In 1991 Bush addressed children across the country with a message of study hard be honest and so on. Here are some of the predictable remarks from that time:

"The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the president, it should be helping us to produce smarter students," said Rep. Richard Gephardt, then the Democratic majority leader in the House of Representatives."And the president should be doing more about education than saying, 'Lights, camera, action.'"

Patricia Schroeder, then a Democratic member of Congress from Colorado, said the speech showed "the arrogance of power," and that the White House should not be "using precious dollars for campaigns" when "we are struggling for every silly dime we can get" for education.

Republicans, though, defended the right of the president to address students. "Why is it political for the president of the United States to discuss education?" asked Newt Gingrich, who was then the House Republican whip. "It was done at a nonpolitical site and was beamed to a nonpolitical audience. . . . They wanted to reach the maximum audience with the maximum effect to improve education."

Seeing how the rhetoric has ratcheted up from then is frightening.

The ability to disagree with political opponents yet still afford them the respect due fellow Americans has decayed to the level of playground squabbles. For the first time in my life I fear for the safe future of America’s traditional peaceful transfer of power.

I did not vote for Obama, but I am appalled by this lack of respect for our countries president. If my children are prevented from seeing this speech in school, we will certainly be watching a recording of it that night.

These folks aren't losing their damn minds, this is and has always been, their minds.

So when Prez Obama address the nation's school children next week, let them protest; keep their children home that day, turn off the TV in the classroom or send the kids to another room whose parents and/or schools/teachers requested it.

Hell, just let them keep their kids at home and home school their kids. More money, space and opportunity for schools. But just one thing. Don't go to the public library and check out books to teach your children at home. that's socialism. Buy your own goddam books!

The General Election, Stimilus package(s), TARP, Cash For Clunkers, Sonya Sotomayor, Dr. Henry Gates, Health Care Reform and so on and so on...... it does not matter, it goes on.

For the next 3.4 years and possibly 8, this is how these White folks are and have always been. They will continue to recruit, protest, behave and act thei way while being fueled by the D.C. Republican rhetoric politicians and I like it because with each protest of Obama and his agenda to change this nation, it becomes less and less about the issues and more about the real reason for saying no to everything, complaining and protesting: pure racism and hate that have never changed in this country; the Black President& his family, their overall hate for all Black people and anything Black (unless it makes them money but they will still hate) and their inherited, generational inbred racism.

White folk just can't help themselves. White people hate. This is who they are as a people.

At some point, the entire White population, pro and con, region by region, state to state, rich or poor, famous or not, will have to come to reality and call a spade a spade, stop blaming other races of people (and the Black President) for their ills and look inside themselves collectively and ask the question, "what in the hell is wrong with us? Why are we so far behind other races with regards to race relations?

Because none of this stuff is working. What does it do? Affect an opinion poll? His popularity rating? So what? Those are up and down all the time and it does not remove him from office or stop him from doing his thing and he knows that.

And they are not scaring anybody. It's almost laughable. 20

As the Prez's agenda & issues continue to unfold and they realize that their hatred voices is not affecting any change to suit them, and they continue to look and act sillier and crazier as time goes on, then hopefully they will understand just how stupid this really is, how stupid they look and that they are being used day in and day out to fight for their Republican instigators who could care less about them collectively and individually.

So from issue to issue, let them water down the issues; get angrier, bitch and continue to reveal themselves to the entire world who already know that American Whites uphold and support racism in this country. It's reflects negatively on them as an American White race and not on Americans as a whole.

And for them, it's not going to change anything.

fro There it is in a nutshell...the historical bloody diseased truth. And...they are NEVER gonna change. Never. Cuz why? They think it's all about THEM. But in life... nothing last forever...not even their crude twisted racist power. And today forward...they're headed for a rude awakening. It's finally here. Cuz it NEVER EVER was about them....never....but!

Laura Bush Defends Obama School Speech

From CNN Political Producer Rebecca Sinderbrand

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Former first lady Laura Bush is defending President Obama's decision to address the nation's school children, telling CNN Monday that it is "really important for everyone to respect the President of the United States."

"I think that there is a place for the President of the United States to talk to school children and encourage school children, and I think there are a lot of people that should do the same," she told CNN's Zain Verjee, in an interview set to air Monday on The Situation Room. "And that is encourage their own children to stay in school and to study hard and to try to achieve the dream that they have."

The former first lady said she believed criticism of the speech had arisen because of the accompanying lesson plans. If parents are opposed to the address, said Bush, "That's their right. You know that certainly is the right of parents to choose what they want their children to hear in school… (But) I think it's also really important for everyone to respect the President of the United States."

Does she think it's fair to criticize Obama, as some have, by labeling him a socialist? "I'd have no idea whether it's fair, do you think I thought it was fair when President Bush was criticized — not really. So, I guess not," she responded.

Good job, Ms. Laura!! appl

The President would be hard-pressed to get a more prestigious and respectable endorsement than that! Education has been her entire life ... and even while she was Mrs. Governor, she worked tirelessly for educational opportunities for kids, and especially the underprivileged ones.

However ... that's probably still not enough to enlighten the ignorant. Roll Eyes From the looks of the news reports ... they've ventured far too deep into stupidity to turn back now!
The White man pulled the plug on some of our Black children, making it impossible for them to hear in school, a message from a Black president of the United States, to stay in school, and all we can do as Blacks in this country is gripe about it. Meanwhile, the kids in Chicago are going on shooting sprees constantly, and neither Black nor Whites can stop it. Not only Chicago, everywhere. My baby had to watch it on C-Span as soon as he came home. He's 8. America is in a sad state of affairs. Never have seen anything like this in my life. Whites have been practicing Racial Hatred Terrorism against us forever, and all we do is gripe and take it and take it and take it.
