Say Goodbye to Apple Pie: It's Time to Label GMOs!
Once again, the Obama administration has approved a new GMO crop that is potentially harmful to the environment and human health, despite widespread resistance from farmers, scientists and everyday citizens.
Yesterday, the USDA approved a new GMO apple that relies on a “gene silencing” technique that scientists believe could interfere with the expression of genes in humans, potentially causing serious health problems.
At the same time, Monsanto and giant food companies are scheming behind the scenes to pass a bill in Congress that would kill mandatory GMO labeling efforts and replace it with a gutted bill that will preempt states’ rights and give the illusion of oversight – essentially killing the GMO labeling in the U.S..
But there’s still hope, this week, members of Congress introduced legislation that would require mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods and prohibit the term “natural” to be used on foods containing GMOs.
It’s common sense folks, but the people allegedly representing us in Washington DC need to hear from you today – GMO labeling is as American as apple pie! Don’t let Monsanto and the biotech industry silence you or your genes today – Tell Congress to pass GMO labeling!

Your member of Congress, the FDA and President Obama will receive a copy of your letter. Please join us today!
Dear Members of Congress,
I am writing because I support strong mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods. Last year Representative Mike Pompeo introduced dangerous legislation, known as the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act, that not only prohibits mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods and undermine states' rights to pass common sense GMO labeling laws, but would only allow "voluntary" labeling on "any products” from GMO plants “if those ingredients present a health or safety risk.”
As your constituent, I'd like to ask that you sign-on as a Co-sponsor of the bipartisan Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act, S. 511 introduced by Senator Boxer and H.R. 913 introduced by Representative DeFazio that would require the mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods. Public opinion polls regularly show that more than 90% of Americans support GMO labeling and it's time that the U.S. join the rest of the civilized world when it comes to transparency in our food supply.
For the past 20 years the U.S. government has continued to deny any risk from genetic engineering, despite increasing scientific evidence that this flawed technology is potentially harmful to human health and the environment.
Already, 64 other countries around the world inform their citizens if their food has been genetically engineered in a laboratory with simple labels, and it's time that we share that basic right.
In the past three years alone, the world’s largest biotech seed, chemical and food manufacturers have spent more than $100 million to deny Americans the right to know what’s in their food. If they already label their food products in all of Europe, Russia, China, Japan, Australia and in 64 countries, what are they trying to hide from the American public?
America must join the rest of the civilized world and pass a strong mandatory labeling bill that is in line with European standards to protect America's right to know what's in their food and inform consumers if our food has been genetically engineered.
Thank you for your consideration,
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
