I was a child when the civil rights movement began. I remember the struggle...but then again...I remember the laughter, the joy and the solidarity as black people called colored back then. We had a good time when it was good and when it was bad....especially when it was bad. We were our own comforters, backbone, supporters. We have unspoken trust in our community. We need to revisit alladat. That last line of the article was so prevalent to me..."Joy is a act of resistance." So true today as it was in the yesteryears of black unity/black love. But!
