Not really. Yes, the police did a poor job of investigation but the prosecuting  attorneys hands are tied. As I said before, while the death of this young man is tragic and sad, there is no criminal case that probably can be successfully pursued given the fact there are no witnesses, collaborating, compelling or circumstantial evidence. Had this happened in New York, yes. But in Florida, no. It's the nature of the state law.

Sad as it is, the exculpatory evidence for Zimmerman is his story of self defense. I personally don't buy it but in a court of law, it’s not what you think, believe or feel -it's what you can prove. The state of Florida generally allows its citizens to own, possess and carry guns with very few restrictions (except for convicted felons) and to use the weapons in self defense. Since Zimmerman said he used it in self defense and no one can refute this (other than the dead young man)…well….not much the state can do. Again, you can't prosecute someone because you feel it's the right thing to do -you have to prove the person violated the law and commited an illegal act. Perhaps maybe a civil suit…..?

Now that they are gonna FINALLY arrest him for this heinous crime...let's the party get started.  Cuz this is gonna be some interesting sh*t and a hellva justice ride.  I have NEVER heard of a lawyer not being able to get in contact with his own client face to face.  Have yall?  It appears that daddy former judge is behind all these legal games.  Cuz WHO else would have the GALL to do this?   So that tells you WHO his REAL counsel is?  His father!!!  I guess he has ran out of political strings.  Good! Cuz his son's azz should have been in JAIL day one.  Now....let's just see what unfolds....  And how fast they get this murderer behind bars.  Let's just see....hum?

Not only Zimmerman needs to be behind bars...don't forget those DUMB AZZ police officers who dropped the damn ball by letting Zimmerman go in the first place.  And they let him KEEP THE GUN...the actual murder weapon.  WTF?  What cop does that?!  Those cops need to be fired and put under the jailhouse for obstruction of justice, aiding and abetting, and conspiracy to manslaugher/murder/deadly assault.

I know I keep repeating the charges, but we can't just rest and just be satisfied with only Zimmerman behind bars.  Put those sorry cops behind bars also, because they did a piss poor job, DOING THEIR JOB.  They should never be able to get a job in law enforcement or even hold or possess a gun and/or a badge for the rest of their lives.  They shouldn't even be able to legally posses a slingshot.

I am so glad that they charged Zimmerman, and I hope that Trayvon Martin's family will get Justice for the murder of their son.  I hope that this case has served as the turning point for African Americans to revive the Civil Rights Movement, and to continue to demand Justice.

This case should also signal the need for all of the ridiculous and dangerous laws that have been enacted in almost every state, to revisit these rash laws so that they can be abolished altogether or at least made perfectly clear and without loop holes in them for people to be able to get away with murder.  This case, and really, thousands of others, should cause the Justice Department to investigate police departments all other the country, police corruption, police obstruction of justice, dirty prosecutors and judges.

There are just too many Trayvon Martins in this country, every day, and what's worst is the fact that the majority of the time it is the police that are murdering our children, our teenagers, young Black males, Black people in general, and the same for Brown people, with absolute impunity.

Either way it's going to be the point of no return for America; either America is going to stand up and say America is what America purports itself to be, or that it has all been an illusion and that anyone that is Black, Brown, non-White, poor, non-White, non-connected, have no Civil Rights, are NOT protected under the Constitution of the United States, and can be murdered at any time by anyone, especially the police, without consequences.

..... This is GREAT news!!!    The first step towards justice for Trayvon Martin was taken today!!!

I DO have to disagree with Rev. Al that today was not a day for celebration.  It most certainly was!!  He acts like this wasn't a victory!!  Like it couldn't have gone the other way.  When he, of all people, knows damn well that a different prosecutor  could have easily decided to let that fool go!!  In fact, the original state attorney DID!!

So, I absolutely celebrate today's charge and arrest of George Zimmerman!!  And hope for many more victories to come until he is serving a life sentence for the second-degree murder that he committed.

I'm also really not wit Trayvon's mom and dad's insistence that ALL they were/are asking for (or need to be asking for) is "an arrest."  "An arrest" is not good enough!!     An "arrest" is not the end.  An "arrest" is NOT justice.

I'm sure there's probably a strategy behind it ... but I'm not liking it none!!    The LAST thing we need to be is complacent.  Although I can totally understand a call for "calm" ... everybody has been calm up to this point ... all protests have been peaceful, as far as I know.  No need to get all 'pacifist' now.

As we see with the Jennifer Hudson trial ... it could take YEARS before a trial in this matter is conducted.  And I think we all can be understanding of that.  But Trayvon deserves far, FAR more in the name of justice than merely an arrest.  and justice demands that that can't be all his family is asking for ... not even now.

But, again ... TODAY'S developments mean A LOT ... for a whole lot of reasons!!  Not  just because it was the just and right thing.  And not just because George Zimmerman is finally in jail for his crime.  But also because of the way it happened ... the protest and demand for justice by sooooo many people that was rightly heard and acted upon.

We did good!

This may not necessarily be true.  There may be criminal culpability just in the fact that there's OBVIOUS evidence that points to George Zimmerman acting as a "pursuer" of Trayvon Martin .... due to the fact that he admitted to police that he was watching and 'following' Martin during his 911 call ... he was told NOT to do even that .. let alone confront the boy .. and he has also admitted that he did BOTH of those things by confessing that he got out of his car specifically to look for him.

Seems to me there's an argument against "self-defense" just based on the fact that Zimmerman was the initial aggressor. He disobeyed a law enforcement order/request that was designed to keep EVERYONE safe and alive that night. If George Zimmerman had stayed in his car, Trayvon would be alive right now.

Seems to me, it wouldn't be all that hard to prove to a jury that it was more likely that Trayvon Martin was the one needing to 'defend' himself.   If aynybody sounds like they had a reason to be scared it would be Trayvon... since he was the one who was being stalked!!    Don'tcha think??

And if you can prove that to a jury from the get-go ... you're pretty much halfway home-free from there!!!

You're right ER, there is no way in hell you can stalk someone, then jump out of your car at them, (with a gun), and that person takes off running in an attempt to get away from you, and then you go even further, and chase after that person, you and that person get into a physical struggle, and that person winds up shot in the chest, (after you shoot that person, with your gun going off more that once, mind you) that you can then say that it was "self-defense".  You would have forfeited the claim to self defense the moment you started stalking that person, let alone after you chased after that person.  Even if you gun discharged by "accident", that person is dead because of your actions, but for the fact that you ever stalked that person, "confronted" that person, and then chased after that person to wind up in the physical altercation with that person in the first place, that person would still be alive.

Self-defense only applies when you are not the aggressor.

Only if the people continue to pressure. Because at this stage the only true demand was to arrest Zimmerman and hold him accountable. No one has protested the Sanford Police and demanded that they be held accountable for this. The police chief has only stepped aside.
