Many people have made reference to Michelle's work in passing, but are not always familiar with her story or any details of her work.  What she details is not only focused on the prison system, but the degree in which we as Black people have internalized the logic of what allows the system to continue (getting tough on crime, responsibility lingo etc etc.)

Some time ago I posted clips explaining Neo-Liberialsim and it was dismissed here.   Well, this is another angle of that same ideology.

We need to start doing for self because no one else is going to help us out of our condition. There is enough talent and skill in our communities to create our own jobs and wealth right within our own communities. But we need to put our differences aside in order to work together to solve our problems before it's too late.

EXACTLY!

Between African Americans confusing materialism and the accumulation of planned-to-be obsolete consumer goods and personal vs. real property, with progress, achievement and success, and the majority of us not having a knowledge base of understanding to even be able to relate the Prison Industrial Complex, America's (IN)Justice System and the neo-Lynchings of Black people in America to jim crow, segregation, slavery and slave plantations in the first place, great thinkers and town criers like Michelle Alexander are just lone voices crying in the wilderness.

Her sister Leslie is just as intelligent and a critical thinker in her own right. The Alexander's did a great job in raising their children!
