This fall, Mary J. Blige will be among the freshman class at Howard University in Washington.

The 39-year-old singer announced on ABC’s “Good Morning America” that she just received her GED and is now eying a Bachelors degree as part of HU’s class of 2014.

“The city of New York gave me my high school diploma … and now Howard University has accepted me,” she stated.

So far – no word on her major or how she’ll attend classes.

Question. Can you actually be accepted by a major college or university by just acquiring a basic skills GED? Money and fame is not a academic qualifier....maybe one of her "handlers" mis-informed her.

Mary J. Blige Says She's Been Accepted To Howard University, Howard Disagrees

Mary J. Blige may be headed back to college. But maybe not.

In an interview with the New Orleans Time-Picayune about the release of her new perfume, Blige offered this tidbit of information: "For the record, I just received my high school diploma yesterday (Monday). The city of New York gave me my high school diploma ... and now Howard University has accepted me."

But when the Washington Post followed up with Howard University, there was some confusion:

The news seemed to catch Howard, the nation's premier historically black university, by surprise. Early Tuesday, a rep for the school declined to address Blige's prospects at the school, noting that information about applicants and admissions is confidential. By late in the day, the university put out a statement suggesting Blige's comments may have been somewhat premature.

The school said: "We encourage Ms. Blige to continue her studies and welcome her consideration of Howard University in the future. We are happy to work with Ms. Blige on completing the formal process for admission."

The Post also claims that Blige told of her college cred to web videographers after an appearance on "Good Morning America," but film evidence of this has since been taken down.

Awwwwww maaannnnn!!

When I first read the article, the thought crossed my mind that maybe she's simply taking an online class through the distant-learning program of the school (if they have one?) and that's what she meant by being "accepted."

I never have been able to accept Mary J. as an authentic artist (listening to her sing  used to physically hurt me to the point that I had to run and turn the radio off when one of her songs started playing! ).

However .... I have to say that I have been impressed by her rather public "cleaning up her act/image" as it did show the youngun's that it was possible to go from a hardcore "thug" to a more decent, well-rounded, self-improved person with the right mindset and the determination to take advantage of good opportunities when they are offered.

From the arrogant, drugged-out, self-indulgent, wanna-be gangster that she used to be ... she developed into a mature, self-confident, successful role model for young women especially ... and that, IMO, was a really, really good thing all the way around!

But ... if she's shakin' and fakin' on this college thing ......
Ah...yall.  I felt the same about Mary...but!  She was just an uncooked....woman... a mere naiive bad girl strugglin to find herself....with a gift from the universe.  And like everybody else human...she had to pay her dues...for growth....for wisdom.  Some take longer than others to obtain this.  I know folks over 60 who still are acting like immature fools.  Soooo...at least she acquired her life lessons in enough reasonable time and now want to do the right thing with her life. In fact, I love me some Mary J. Blige.  Her journey....life lessons[one of them was dating Jodeci..why Mary why?]....are like everybody else.  Some make it.  Some not.  Mary did.  And I am soooooooooooo glad she did.    Sumthing wrong?

Yeah, there's something wrong if she's not 'being real' about something as important as college and an education!!

To me, it's the next logical (and progressive/uplifting) step if MJB were to show her fans that college and education were not only obtainable for people like them .. but a good/the best/the right thing to pursue!

Lying about it, though, is not all that helpful!!    That can't do nothing but breed confusion and dash hopes and dreams in the end!  These young kids NEED to see somebody like Mary enrolled in an HBCU and pursuing and obtaining a degree ... especially at her age!!  It would do wonders for the self-esteem and positive reinforcement of the young girls that look up to her!

But ... (if she's) making stuff for the sake of publicity and giving a better interview ... .  Let's just hope that's not the case.
I don't think she lied. Why would she make this up just to get embrassased out in public?

I just think that she did not know or her handlers either got bad verbal info and did not know or understood the requirements to getting into college, especially a place like Howard U. She quit high school and her musical path to success is on a totally different level than persuing academics....she just didn't understand the process, someone told her or she mis-interpeted and she got excited.

Does she or did she receive an acceptence letter from Howard U? Does she even know what that is? Probably not..

I am giving her the benefit of the doubt on this and I hope that she was not set up for an embrassement, such as it is.

My sista....I really don't think Mary has anything to gain from lying.  Truly I don't.  She's already making a "gang" of millions...and have businesses up the yang yang...including a record label [and a nonprofit to help young abused women].  I think she realize that if she is to keep this money and not be tricked like sooooooooo many celebrities [especially sports celebrities] are, she needs to get her butt in school.  Any school.  That's was good publicity for the college she announced.  If she goes there or not.  Just mentioning it was a promo move for them....not her.  As we know some women get a poviot moment in their late thirties...[the forunate get it earlier...but many don't] this moment is when they realize they need to do something personally for themselves.  Has nothing to do with money or fame....but has everything to do with Mary as a woman.  Nothing to do with trying to impress any body.  Plus Mary's already in the whos whos club with the big time blackfolks[Oprah, Tyler, Angelou, Tyson, etc]...she doesn't need to make anything up....what I think she may be doing is showing young women that one can finally grow up at any AGE and go to the next level in education.  I also think that being in this whos whos black club or being around promient folks like Oprah, Angelou and others inspired her to be her personal best.

There's one thang about a black woman.......once she wakes up!  It's on.  As in this case with MJB.  She looking around and seeing everyday women like her achieving beyond imagination...doing dynamic things in her presence as they pass the torch onto her.  And as she proudly announced, she is taking the torch and running with it.  Cuz as we know there is NOTHING like a brilliant.  College-smart.  Black woman!  Cuz why?  She is unstoppable. And I can just [happily] imagine where this new goal is gonna take sista Mary. But!  I'm just sayin
People we are so quick to judge and slow to understand, come on, how many times have we all been misunderstood? For what ever reason and it just kind of left you feeling like ........ " "DOPE,WHY WOULD I LIE ABOUT THAT?" Big picture people, you have a 41 year old mega star, announcing to the world, "I JUST GOT MY GED!" You know how many people this woman has encouraged to go back to school?

GOD does! If you have a diploma or a ged you can just about go to any school you like! Oh yea, lets not forget, money!  Being accepted is one thing, you also have to enroll. Would it had made the media happier if she said, " I WILL BE ENROLLING IN HOWARD IN THE FALL!"
Most likely not! Many are haters and will find something to gripe about! Such is life! MJB WORK THAT!

FYI: i HAVE A CATERING BUSINESS, I WILL LEAVE MY MILLIONS TO MY CHILDREN. www.tiasfantasticfood.com.

Do i have millions, no, but i will. Now how about that gas spill in the earth????

A diploma or GED alone will not get you into most colleges or universities. GPA, test scores on SAT or ACT, recommendations, et al, are far more important than a diploma in the admissions process.  Also, one has to apply before being accepted and one has to be accepted before enrolling.
Now see ... that's a classic example of why people who are in positions of influence over others shouldn't "misinform" or give 'misleading information' to the people that are influenced by them!!  The blind leading the blind usually ends up bumping into walls.

@ Ms. Koco & Cholly ...

When I suggested that Mary might be "lying" I didn't mean it as a matter of intentionally trying to deceive people.  Whether she's aware of it or not, getting your GED one day and then "getting accepted" into a 4-year college the next, is all but an impossibility!!    It just can't happen.  And, for whatever reason that she said that, it simply most likely isn't true.

Now ... having been through the process myself recently, I do know that it is possible to sign up/enroll/be 'accepted' by a college in one of their 'distant learning' classes or a CE (continuing education) course in a day!!  Which, I suspect, may be what happened in Mary's case.

These classes/courses are not a degree program (many offer certificates of completion or some other form of certification), are usually completed online (but some are offered on-campus), and can range from anything from a computer class to a paralegal course to a medical-assistant program to obtaining a real estate license!  You don't have to take SATs or an entrance exam to get in.  And while you are indeed a "student" of the college, you don't get "accepted" as part of the traditional main college-attending student body.

The point I was trying to make about the false information provided in her statement is that ... it's hard enough for kids these days to make the necessary steps to go out and get a GED long after they've left/dropped out of high school.  It's a fantastic and encouraging step .. but usually not an easy one.  For someone (whom they admire) to make it even look like you can get your GED and then just sachet into a 4-year college can, in the end, turn out to be discouraging and demoralizing because the truth is, getting accepted in to a major college is no cake walk by any stretch of the imagination!

The testing, the application process, the interviews, the essays, the finding the money ... is a process one has to be fiercely dedicated to .... and many who aren't prepared for it may choose instead to simply give up .. since, unlike Mary, it wasn't just a 'get your GED one day and become a college student the next' type of endeavor.

I can't for the life of me understand why she didn't know what her status actually was ... or why she thought she may have been "accepted" or what exactly she meant by what she said.  But .. she's out there ... she's encouraging young minds - especially young women - she's leading their way and they are following her lead.  And if she's not paving that road with the 'truth' - whatever that may be - it's not a good thing for anybody involved.

O.K.  Maybe not in one day....but!  I know Judge Mathis got his GED.  And then went on to college.  So....anything possible.

I don't think she meant doing this all in a day.  I think maybe that was a figure of speech...but!  I could be wrong.

My sista I know a few students who got their GED and went to a two-year college...half way into it took the entrance test for a major college and was immediately accepted with scholarships and grant money to boot.   True.  They did score high in math and the sciences...but nevertheless they did get in.  So as I said earlier anything is possible if you put your foot forward. And BTW:  These were straight out bay bays...with a criminal record and everythang....and turned their lives around and now are on the honor roll.

And the GED exam?  It's no walk in the park.  Especially the math part.  Many of my students would come to me to help prepare them with the math section.  And I was like...get that AWAY from me.  I didn't remember a thang passed arthematic.  This was years ago...and when I returned to college....still had a hard time with math-you remember Honest Brotha helping with it a couple of years ago....right?.  So it [GED] is no easy plight...especially with this new math.  BTW:  the math section in the GED is the math exam for the CBEST test for California teachers.

I can't for the life of me understand why she didn't know what her status actually was ... or why she thought she may have been "accepted" or what exactly she meant by what she said.  But .. she's out there ... she's encouraging young minds - especially young women - she's leading their way and they are following her lead.  And if she's not paving that road with the 'truth' - whatever that may be - it's not a good thing for anybody involved

She got a LOT going on in her life.  And probably didn't realize or understand the process.  And each state is different.  So.  And I'm like her I don't know how other states work either.  I just know how colleges in California work....Plus they have changed the college requirements so many times it's hard to know what's the correct way anymore.....I remember back in the day if you didn't use math in your major or minor....you didn't have to take math at all....not anymore.....but!  I'm just sayin
Blind leading the blind! Yes many are lead by stars and simple people who are oblivious to what is real. I merely stated Many including myself will be inspired by MJB'S TESTIMONY, GOING BACK TO SCHOOL, A 40 + YEAR OLD WOMAN GETTING HER GED AND BEING PROUD TO STATE THAT PUBLICLY! If one is blind and are awakened to follow what MJB has done it is a positive thing!!!      YOU FOLKS KEEP FORGETTING WHAT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR MAN IS POSSIBLE FOR GOD!  Can some of yow get a paradigm shift? This woman is rich, she is not on your budget! She can pay and go to any college she wants to! Rather she attends college are not the woman is an awesome sister!
I will be attending Clark, i have several degrees, i am a business owner, i want for nothing! Still i am proud and encouraged to further my education and hone my skills. MJB was a positive confirmation TO ME!
If MJB is lying, telling the truth or a half truth, it will still have a positive affect on many whiles others can  care less! At the end of the day it is her business! STOPPP HATIN!!! GET OFF THE SISTERS BACK!
Its so many real issues pressing in this world, i have no more time nor anything else to say on the "MJB crisis!" Now how about that leak in the earth?

I do not see anyone here that is "hatin." I commend Ms Blige for achieving her high school equivalency. It is important, however, that people not be misguided about the admission process to a college or university. I am a college professor with an additional 12 years as an administrator in higher education that included dealing wit issues in the area of admissions. I have multiple advance degrees, including a PhD. It takes more than money to get into most accredited institutions. While there are some instances where students do buy their way into an institution, in my opinion, that speaks poorly of both the person seeking admission via such means, as well as the college or university. Further, I could assure you that most faculties would view an administration that acted in such a fashion with disdain.

Again, this is not a matter of "hatin", this is a matter of clarification for those who may not be as familiar with the workings of academia as others.

I have to say that I find it pretty disheartening that you find it acceptable that if someone were lying to you, it could have a positive affect on you.   It's also rather disturbing that you would consider a statement of facts as "hatin' rather than a simple telling of the truth.

If you actually read the articles posted here  ... it says that Ms. Blige, herself, told the interviewer that she had been "accepted" by Howard University.  But that Howard University said that it had no record of such admission.

Now, I'm not saying that Mary was lying (I did use the word "if" repeatedly), but, the FACTS are that what she said was not the truth.  The TRUTH of her statement stopped at the point where she stated that she got her GED.  Which is fantastic, in and of itself, that she 1) made that decision, 2) put forth effort to pursue it after leaving school so long ago,  and 3) was successful at it!!  I give her all the props in the world for that!!  And I hope that she encouraged many, many others, in her same position, to do the same!!

The issue here is that she SAID, publicly, that she was accepted into college when she was not.  I know folks your age don't really care about the truth or what's 'real' .. the celebrity of the person (how rich or famous they are) is more important and carries more weight (has more of a 'positive affect' on you) than the actual character of the person ... whether or not they tell you the truth.  You're fine to be influenced by lies if the person telling them to you has enough clout.

Well, people in my age group want more for you than that.  We'd prefer that 1) you be able to recognize the truth ... and 2) be positively influenced only by what's on the real.  If you have several degrees you should know what the admittance/acceptance process entails.  And if you (or Mary) were to encourage others to pursue a higher education, I would hope that you wouldn't do so by not telling others the truth about how to process works.  Contrary to your belief, the best "positive affect" is not achieved by lies or half-truths.

I hope Ms. Blige achieves her goal of obtaining a college degree some day! And that she encourages and influences many others to do the same.  She obviously has not gone through the experience of how that process really works, though ... or she wouldn't have made a public statement about it that simply wasn't true.

When it comes to something as important as education, our young people need to know that it may not be easy (you can't get your GED one day and be accepted into college the next), but the rewards are well worth the struggle ... and that it's absolutely something that any of them can achieve!!  If, (as many of them do), they believe they can just wish or want for something - or say it out loud  - and it just somehow automatically comes true ... they are headed for a rude awakening, downfall and disappointment.

And haven't we had enough of that 'false hope' stuff afflicting our communities already??
FUNNY! LOL! LMBO! DISHEARTENED BY MY OPINION AND YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW ME?? I FIND THAT HUMOROUS! There have been numerous of false pastors preaching the word of God and baptizing people in the name of Jesus, many people have been saved and went on to do extraordinary things in ministry. Now the pastor may have been a false prophet however it did not stop others from being true, and studying the word for themselves to become true prophets and pastors.

Yes mam, lie or truth, good or evil God can take any situation and turn it around for good! He can make an enemy your foot stool.
I am sure Mrs MJB aint talking about you or me, she on her paper chase and so am i! I GOTTA GET BACK TO THE MONEY! STOP HATING AND FINDING FAULT! LEAVE THAT WOMAN ALONE, SHE AINT SWEATIN YOU! What paradigm shift? The money, the fame, the celebrity? So what? She has money (you think that makes her a better person than anyone else, is she smarter, wiser, more accomplished?) and who here is hatin' on Mary J Blige? No one.

Question, why in today's youth culture/society, when someone questions another it always deemed as "hatin" or an upfront challenge to your man or womanhood?

Why can't anyone just ask you a simple question without all the angry drama & feedback? Why all the sensitivity and anger? Why answer a question with a question? What, you know everything? You're brain capacity has maxed out and there no more to be sponged into you …..or are you simply trying to win or claim the victory of the argument?......the spoils of war.......that road has been traveled here long ago and it's a little tired.

A homeless person can win the lottery. Does the money now make him better than anyone else when before you probably thought when he/she was sleeping in the streets pushing a shopping chart, standing at the intersection, holding a cardboard sign, begging for change and a handout that he/she was probably a useless human being?...now he's/she's rich and so goes his negative aura and now enhanced positive paradigm and budget shift...and his dismal past? Totally forgotten...."He once was BUT now look at him".

And to your suprise, Jay-Z is not a billionaire and is not in the billion dollar range in career made gross or after tax dollars. Not even close.

THE_BRITESIDE, it seems to me that you only have respect and positive judgement for people based on the size of their wallets and all the possible trappings that goes along with it.........case in point with Mary J Blige, despite her lack of basic understanding of the college admissions process and her skewed thinking that she got accepted to college and you, having an advanced education, therefore you (if you're not lying) understand the rules & process, still feel trapped in a corner wildly swinging a baseball bat at everyone when the only thing that bloggers posted here are their yea and nay opinions of what they think of this particular issue...the same as you.

You may feel (or may not) that you are being unfairly attacked but you're not. And for you, you may not be accustomed to (since you're the educated one and everyone pays attention and listens to you) having your words, your sentences, your statements, your paragraphs or your entire blog entry parsed or challenged at different and varying angles by a well though out, in-depth opposing view at every turn and the fact that you have advanced degrees (if you're not lying) is a tribute (good for you if you're not lying) but it doesn't impress anyone here.

We all here have those banners and accomplishments from vast and various backgrounds of experience and there is nothing that you say here that going to suprise anyone: that has not been said, debated, broken down and analyzed over the years by members here SO JUST CHILL OUT, roll with it and enjoy the dialogue.....just bring good stuff to the table for debate/discussion and have fun......it's all good here.... WELCOME!…and in your responses, drop the ALL CAPS entry…it smells of rookie leather and it bothers or scares no one.

Pssst! [tippin' in] Brotha Cholly...I know you weren't talking to me....but!  The examples you represented in above post are the same ones I tell my students ALL THE TIME.  Especially the one about the homeless person.  That's an excellent sample of truth. I tell them constantly[cuz they all want to be rappers or basketball players(even the girls)] that there are....some things MONEY just can't buy: good health, true love, intergity, dignity, character, heart, bravery, courage, intelligence, common sense,  trust, friendship, compassion, a sense of community and belonging, charity-just to name a few. Your analogies were awesome! O.k. [tippin' out] But!  I'm just sayin

Unfortunately ... she is not alone in that respect!!    Her entire generation (and certainly the one before it, but hopefully not the one after!) lives with that mentality as the basis for pretty much everything they do!!

I once asked the kids why they looked up to Russell Simmons ('cause at the time I didn't find anything particularly impressive about him, myself!) ... what was it about him that made them listen to and respect him the way they did?  (This was during the start of the 2008 election and he had been chosen to lead the 'Get out and vote' campaign for the youngun's).  And they told me, straight out ... because he has money!!    It made him seem like since he was smart enough to get rich, then he should be listened to because that was the dream and aspiration that all of them (their generation) were aiming for.  And he (Mr. Simmons) had 'made' it happen!

It didn't really matter HOW he got his money or if he was telling them the right things to do (which he wasn't, as he was making money off of them by encouraging them to embrace the hip hop/gangster/thug culture ..and then selling them products to reinforce that negative mentality!).  They couldn't care less about his character or integrity or whether or not he was a good person.  Anybody with MONEY was someone to look up to.  And that's the way they felt about it.

THE BRITESIDE is just a product of her environment.  To her and others like her nothing is more deserving of RESPECT than money is.  In fact, it IS respect.  Without it, you can't have/earn any.  Simply being a good, decent, honest, caring or compassionate person gets you nothing and nowhere ... and nobody should like you for that alone.

But ... you can shoot, kill, fight, rape, go to jail, swindle, steal, hate, deny your kids, sling drugs, guns & pimp other human being, pee on young girls, embezzle and, yes ... lie through your teeth ... and as long as you have lots of MONEY ... I believe the prevailing wisdom expressed was ... SO WHAT???

Indeed .. the struggle is not yet over.
Sista ER....that was sooooooooooo elegantly put.  Yall are bringing tears to my eyes.  Cuz truth is its own reward.  And there's nothing....like truth!  And what you both said is nothing but the truth as the kids say...."the butt naked truth."  So.....  Here's to yall [Cholly and EbonyRose!]  Couldn't have expressed this wisdom any better myself.  But!  I'm just sayin
Well, if thats your opinion than thats your opinion, i could careless about what you think. This is AMERICA and your are entitled to your opinion. I think wrong is wrong and right is right. I feel we all have sinned and have fallen short of the GLORY OF GOD, there for i am in no position to judge any one. Hell, the woman did not piss on a child, she did not rape a minor nor did she kill anyone! That has nothing to do with money! What has to do with money is that fact that  we live in the REAL WORLD ( not saying it is right) but money can buy one just about anything EVEN PEOPLE!!! To say that is not a truth one must be very naiveté!

I respect all of Gods creations, rich, poor, whatever. I do more for people than you would ever know and or imagine, i lend my catering services to bereaved families (funerals) at no charge paying for everything from my own pockets, i say this not for your approval nor to boast only to make a point!

You again seem to be a self righteous, judge mental person, you pick out words and things a person says and you run with it creating a whole diatribe of untruth! Yes i am a product of my enviroNment, that product is LOVE, COMPASSION, KIND HEARTED, AND GENEROUS! SLOW TO ANGER, QUICK TO LISTEN&UNDERSTAND rather than judge!!! Give a person the benefit of the doubt, FORGIVE, LET GO AND LET GOD. mY ENVIRONMENT IS HARD WORK, MONEY DOES NOT MAKE ME, I MAKE MONEY because i work hard, i tithe and i bless others even those who would take my kindness for weakness!

A FOOL RESPECTS MONEY A WISE MAN KNOWS HOW TO USE HIS MONEY KNOWING IT CAN BE GONE TOMORROW! YOU CAN ALSO BE A POOR FOOL AND OR A RICH FOOL! A FOOL IS QUICK TO JUDGE WHILE A WISE WOMAN MAY ASSESS THE SITUATION AND ALLOW GOD TO JUDGE!

Again LADY YOU NEED A PARADIGM  SHIFT, YOU ARE SO CERTAIN ABOUT EVERYONE, THEIR ENVIRONMENT THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES/SITUATIONS TRY PRAYING FOR THEM! I AM SURE GLAD THAT GOD AINT LIKE PEOPLE, IF HE WERE LIKE YOU LADY WE WOULD NOT STAND A CHANCE! WE KNOW THE WORLD HAS A LOT OF REALLY UGLY THINGS IN IT, THATS WHY ONE MUST EDUCATE THEIR CHILDREN, RAISE THEM RIGHT, LOVE THEM RIGHT AND HOLD THEM TIGHT!
DONT BE MAD IF YOUR CHILDREN LOOK UP TO THE STARS IF YOU DID NOT TEACH THEM TO LOOK UP TO GOD! THEY ARE GOING TO LOOK UP TO SOMETHING! I DO NOT LISTEN TO MOST OF THE CELEBS, MOVIES, MUSIC NOTTA, I RESEARCH THEM SO THAT I KNOW WHAT I AM  UP AGAINST IN PREPARE MY LITTLE SOLDIERS. EXAMPLE: MANY OF YOU LOVE JAYZ, BUT IN THE HIT WITH HIM AND KEYS,NEW YORK, HE SAYS, "JESUS CANT SAVE YOU AND THE WORLD WONT BEGAN UNTIL THE CHURCH ENDS!" THATS JUST WRONG, THAT CD WENT IN THE FIRE PLACE! R KELLY COURTS FOUND HIM INNOCENT THE FACTS SAY GUILTY!!! ALL OF HIS CDS, FIRE PLACE!

BUT HELL, YOW WAS ROCKIN TO THE DUDE WHEN HE MARRIED A 15 YEAR OLD CHILD, TO ME THAT WAS WRONG! I STOP BEING A FAN AT THAT POINT! SO MAM, YOU DO NOT KNOW ME, STOP ACTING AS IF YOU DO! THATS WHY I SIMPLY CALL IT HATING! ITS NOT LOVE, ITS HATE TO BE SO CERTAIN ABOUT A PERSON AND NOT KNOW THE FACTS! I KNOW MANY PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND TO BE QUITE BLUNT, IT  IS PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO ARE SO CERTAIN ABOUT EVERYONE, SO SELF RIGHTEOUS, YET HAVE MORE FAULTS THAN THE FOLKS THEY CONDEMN!

I HAVE A 22 YEAR OLD, A 16 YEAR OLD AND A ONE YEAR OLD, I AM ALMOST 42 LOOKING 25, IN GREAT HEALTH, A BODY TO DIE FOR AND THE CONFIDENCE OF A BLACK QUEEN MY CHARITY STARTED IN THE HOME! MY SON IS IN HIS 3RD YEAR OF COLLEGE IN ALABAMA, SO BABY I DO NOT TALK THE TALK I WALK THE WALK! I RESPECT MYSELF, I RESPECT OTHERS.HARD WORK IS THE KEY INGREDIENT TO BEING SUCCESSFUL, I RESPECT HARD WORK AND ALONG WITH THAT COMES REWARDS!

BY THE INCH ITS A CINCH, BY THE MILE ITS A TRIAL! INCH YOUR WAY OUT OF THE BOX!
Reference:
LOL! JAY Z IS ONE OF 20 AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THIS COUNTRY WHO ARE IN THE BILLION DOLLAR INCOME RANGE! REALLY THE ONLY REASON HE WOULD HAVE TO GO TO COLLEGE IS FOR SELF GRATIFICATION, HIGHER EDUCATION, OR JUST BECAUSE HE WANTS TOO, OR IF HE IS A FOOL AND BLOWS ALL THAT GWOP!
Yea....Jay z is definitely not in the billion dollar range..No entertainer could possible become a billionaire. At least not via entertainment...well technically oprah and bob johnson did, but I swear to god I haven't the faintest idea how oprah got her billions...definitely NOT the show..or could it be? I never read a full bio...but johnson of course im pretty sure everyone knows his story...With the entertainment channel transaction...thats as close as entertainment will ever get to a billion .. anyway did marry ever clear this up?is she going to howard or not?I hope she does
Hi, yes, believe it or not, Jay z is one of the 20 african american billionaires, many more are on his coat tail. You must remember these artist today have clothing lines, record labels, drinks, endorsements and very expensive ticket sales. They also have properties, investments, and night clubs! As for Jay he was worth around 350, he then sold rocawear for 205 million in cash and 35 million in stock, then he signed  a 150 million dollar deal with Live nation bringing his total to over 750 million. If you add in wife Beyonce's reported 350 million dollar net worth, then that comes to over a billion dollars.
As far as MJB, i have not looked into that issue, to me personally it is a moot issue. If she goes great, if not oh well (SHRUGGING SHOULDERS).Her decision will not put food on my table nor clothes on my back. I wish her the best as i wish everyone! You know Boo, i am all for the under dog though! I like to see people come up, i like to see the ones whom they say would never make it, make it! I like that because thats where God is! I am on my way to work with some youth, to many talk about the down fall of this generation but who is praying for them! You smell me? Be easy!

Black Billionaires.

According to the 2010 Forbes International Billionaire List, Oprah Winfrey with a net worth of $2.4 billion is the richest black person in the world and was once the world's only black billionaire.

Close behind is South African gold magnate Patrice Motsepe with $2.3 billion and Nigeria's Aliko Dangote with $2.1 billion. Dangote and Motsepe are the first black Africans to ever appear on the Forbes international rich list, however, Mobutu. the Congolese president, and Sani Abacha,  the Nigerian military leader, were probably billionaires when they were alive but Forbes could never confirm this (according to Forbes magazine's Kerry Dolan)

From 2001-2003, Forbes listed Black Entertainment Television founder Bob Johnson as a billionaire,  but dropped him after his fortune was split in his divorce from his wife Sheila.

He returned to Forbes international rich list in 2007 with a net worth of $1.1 billion USD. In 2008 Johnson's wealth dropped further to approximately $1.0 billion USD even and in 2009 he dropped off the list again. Nigerian petroleum executive Femi Otedola briefly emerged as a billionaire in 2009, but was not listed as one in 2010.

Afro-multiracial billionaires have also been identified. Forbes international richest list includes Michael Lee-Chin of Canada, who is of Chinese and Jamaican ancestry (with two black grandmothers and two Chinese grandfathers, both his parents are half black and half Chinese). Saudi-Arabian billionaire Mohammed Al Amoudi has black ancestry because his mother is from Ethiopia, but rich lists classify him as Arab because his father is from Yemen Also included is Mo Ibrahim, a British billionaire of Sudanese Nubian ancestry

Of all the black or Afro-multiracial billionaires identified by Forbes, only Oprah Winfrey qualified for Forbes 2009 list of the world's 20 most powerful billionaires, a list which considered not only wealth, but also market sway and political clout. Winfrey was considered especially powerful because of her influence on American consumer choices and because of the pivotal role she played in electing Barack Obama president.

*******there are only two US African American billionaires, Oprah and Bob Johnson, not 20 according to you and Jay-Z, the basis for your weak argument, where is his name? His stats?  He is not on that Black billionaire's list.

Oprah Winfrey

Bob Johnson

I posted their pictues just in case you did not know who they and what they look like since (using simple math) a total of 2 US African American billionaires does not add up or equal to a total of 20 US African American billionaires.

Where did you get your info from? Vibe Magazine?, Ebony? Jet? Essence? XXL? Where?

And trying to combine his wife Beyonce's net worth to justify your arguments is not valid and makes absoluty no sense since those are her independent, personal and professional earnings and the argument that you will make in response: "well, they are married so it's combined and counts" does not hold any water since the Forbes list does not recognize combined martial assets, only individual........you don't know what you are talking about.....you smell me?******** "THE_BRITESIDE": "I'm educated and got several degrees"....bullshyt!!.....then you show know how and be able to research a subject/topic for overall justification and clarification.......sell that bullshyt to someone else who can't catch or understand your "lack of knowledge" and inaccuraties.******

And stop with all the lies.

WOW, OMG!!! You seem angry for what? I am not selling anything, nor do i care about your degrees, i was just replying to a question you asked me based on the research i have. For the record courts are superior to FORBES magazine! lol! When you are married assets are combined, you ever heard of the old saying, "it is cheaper to keep her." To be honest i was rather shocked by your foul mouth, crudeness and anger over such a superflous subject.

If you are educated you should act like it.I was always taught by my Mother and Father that ignorant people resort to cursing and fowl language when conversing, intelligent educated people can agree to disagree.  Also Bob Johnsons x wife is a billionaire. Maybe i will do more research, i am not perfect and you know what Boo, i do not have these folks bank statements! I was only going by what i read as you were? Have a good day and wash your fowl mouth with bleach!!!
OK, OK, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE, I was looking at their career earnings. May 2009, Forbes magazine estimated that Tiger Woods's total net worth is $600 million. His career earnings total over $1 billion.Tyler Perry is also on his way to billionaire status. Perry earned a modest $125 million on last year.
I was reading the overall career earning, Now you can get your boxers out of cha but! lol!
OMG! is right....you learned something today.

Your quote: "OK, OK, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE...no there isn't.

THE_BRITESIDE, your pressing and searching really hard right now, trying to find a spin justification for your responses (you're tryin' to put all types of shiggity together, hoping to make some sense) and my initial correction of yours and the fact that you posted two hasty responses back to back in desperation keyboard anger in order to try and answer or justify the first one, tells me that you knowledge of the subject matter and analysis was wrong and you don't have adequate info to justify your argument.....Bottom Line: there are only two African Americans billionaires recoginized in the United States (and the world) and anything less than 1 billion dollars is not a billion dollars, so your attempts of combing martial assets,, adding up gross money & material assets (before taxes) vs net money & material assets (after taxes) AT THE END OF THE DAY, the TOTAL amount of assets, both liquid, non-liquid and fixed, needs to ADD UP TO NO LESS THAN 1 billion dollars, not $999 million, 999.99 thousand, 999 dollars and 99 cents BUT 1 billion dollars.....and I am not mad or as you say" hatin" on you (I knew that you would go there and say that)...I'm just trying to correct you and keep you well informed......and that. a correction..THE_BRITESIDE, is not hate.
First of all i am not and was not angry, for what? Second of all i enjoy reading and researching all types of things, so me posting back to back was just what i said i would do................."Maybe i will do more research!" I am not a politician, i'm not trying to win a race as i stated i got the information from something i read! SO IF I GO AND re* EXAMINE MISQUOTED and (some misread) RESEARCH and try to understand, whats the problem?
I think a lot of people on these blogs just like to debate! It is not my money, (shaking my head) you folks go nuts and just point out the negative, not the fact that i said, i will do more research. I even said, "OK, OK, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE", meaning, thats correct, they may have grossed a billion but their net worth was less. So yes the difference is (EXAMPLE) OPRAH HAS A BILLION PLUS AND TIGER DOES NOT! THAT WAS YOUR POINT, RIGHT?

THE OMG WAS BECAUSE OF YOUR NASTEY MOUTH! WHO EVER SAID YOU WERE HATING? KEEP IT REAL DO NOT JUST ADD STUFF TO PERPETUATE DISCORD! YES, I DO, I LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY! MY PARENTS TOLD ME A LONG TIME AGO, YOU CAN LEARN FROM A FOOL! I ASKED, "DADDY, WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM A FOOL?" HE ANSWERED (SMILING) "HOW NOT TO BE A FOOL!

HAVE A GOOD DAY! I'M DONE, THANKS FOR THE PARTY!
Awwww, Cholly ... don't be so ... grumpy ... with the girl!

She realized and then acknowledged her mistake!  From her first couple of posts I wouldn't have expected that to be possible!    But ... I think she's getting better!

And she probably did actually learn something new today!
Thank you, but no thanks i hold my own. I am a woman about mine, see if your going to be nice, be nice. All the extra, "girl", "what you thought" and "she is getting better" fake comments you can keep that to yourself. You have only reinforced your hypocrisy to me! Keep it GUCCI! GO PLAY IN TRAFFIC!
@ THE-BRITESIDE ....

Let me assure you there was absolutely nothing "fake" about ANYTHING I said!!  I said exactly what I meant .. and meant exactly what I said ... exactly the way I said it!!

If I was "nice" to you, it's because I wanted to be nice to you!!  Which at the time I did.  And so I was.  I thought you deserved it for being "real" for the first time in this thread .... as your first post came off more than a little erratic, defensive and slightly on the immature side, IMO!

The "girl" was a reference to you being a female ... not to your age.  Although the fact that you are obviously younger than those of us who have been participating in this discussion isn't lost on me, either.  For the record, most of us have not, would or will ever "rock" the talentless likes of somebody like R.Kelly or JayZ!!  We were fortunate enough to be raised during a time when Black music and its artists delivered talent, originality, and the creativity to be able to entertain WITHOUT taking their clothes off or trying to say more curse words than the previous guy did on his last album!!

I personally appreciate the quality of the music that I "rock" (from artists like Luther, Anita, Gladys, and a variety of jazz performers) ... and would certainly not trade it for what passes as "music" today!!

Also, while you have accused me of 'passing judgment' on you, you have, more than once, offered your opinion on who I am and what I am about ... without knowing anything about me, and have, thus, continued to be wrong on all counts!!    You need to reassess what I've said in the reality in which it was given ... and then deal with me on THAT level, if, in fact, your goal is to really "be real."

I thought Cholly was being a little hard on you .. and I addressed that .. not to "fake" you out .. but because I thought it was the right thing to do.  And regardless of your attitude I would do it again if I thought the situation called for it.  That's what being "real" and being "a woman" is all about.  Calling someone "fake" or a "liar" just because you don't like what they have to say doesn't make you the best judge of character, though.  If the TRUTH is something you can't handle .. well, that's not my fault!  But that's what you're gonna get from me .. 'cause I know of no other way to express myself.  And you can choose to deal with that reality .. or not!!

But if you're gonna come up in here ... just come correct, is all I ask!!  Save all the drama and wild accusations and declarations of greatness for another forum for which that might be appropriate.  Here, we're just looking for a 'reality-based' discussion on the current events that are affecting Black America today.  You don't have to be perfect and being "nice" isn't some kind of character flaw.

Now .. you you said you were interested in talking about the looming disaster of the oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico!  Yet, you've thusfar had nothing to say about that!  Now ... were you really being "real" about that or not??
CALLING A 41 YEAR OLD WOMAN A GIRL,  TO ME IS NO DIFFERENT THAN CALLING A 41 YEAR OLD MAN A BOY, I T COMES OFF DEROGATORY! (And she probably did actually learn something new today)! PLEASE, I PEEPED THE SUPERFLOUS  SUBLIME SARCASM!
JUST LIKE I TELL MY BABY BOY, " IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE NICE, BE NICE, NO PINCHING!"

Now as for music i do not own a Rkelly cd, nor a Jayz cd, how ever there are plenty and many people older than myself SOME (seniors citizens)  who do! NOW I DO OWN TWO RECORD PLAYERS AND A SLEW OF ALBUMS! I love music, i love the oldies, the classics, from : DONNY HATHAWAY,RIP, MELBA MOORE, MARVIN GAYE,RIP, THE TEMPTATIONS (THE ORIGINAL TEMPTATIONS) RIP, OTIS WILLIAMS STILL ALIVE!  SMOKEY ROBINSON, NANCY SINATRA, ( MADE ME LOVE BOOTS AS A A CHILD) THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS (RIP BOBBY),  RIP, SAM COOK,RIP, PATSY CLINE,RIP,  ELVIS,RIP,  THE DRAMATICS, RIP, RON BANKS, LAKESIDE (I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND) THE BEATLES, EARTH WIND AND FIRE, TAMMY TERREL, RIP, TAMMY WYNETTE,RIP, THE COMMODRE, LIONEL RICHIE, THE ISLEY BROTHERS, BARRY WHITE, RIP, TEDDY PENDERGRASS, RIP, ISAAC HAYES, RIP, TINA TURNER, "proud mary"- LUTHER VANDROSS, RIP, SAMMY DAVIS JR., RIP FRANK SINATRA,RIP, TOM JONES, JAMES BROWN,I HEAR HIM RIGHT NOW, "SAY IT LOUD, IM BLACK AND IM PROUD"!!!! RIP!  THE JACKSON FIVE!!! I LOVE YOU MJ, REST IN PEACE! I can go on and on, as far as music, I am a  LATE 60's child, i grew up listening to music at its "main stream peak," (WITH  my parents), i was doing the camel walk, the bug a lu, the two step, the twist, the kneck, and the scorpio, ( you dont no nuffin bout dat dere, hey now, young wipper snapper!lol)  So on the music tip, i definitely feel ya! My bad, i have to give a RIP to Billy Holiday, Ella fitzgerald, Sara Vaughn, Lionel Hampton, Louie Armstrong, Lena Horn,  They grace my kitchen wall!

Now, to piggy back off of this comment: Now .. you you said you were interested in talking about the looming disaster of the oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico!  Yet, you've thusfar had nothing to say about that!  Now ... were you really being "real" about that or not??
