Man Says He Was Pulled Over by Police and Woke Up Like This
A Kentucky man says the gruesome pictures of his face stem from excessive force used by police during a traffic stop.
Yakie Armstrong tells WDRB that he has filed a lawsuit against the Shively Police Department over the incident.
“When I got out the car, ‘he said get back in the car,” saidArmstrong. “Next thing I know, I am waking up in the hospital with them fooling with my eye.”
“I’m like, what did he do…have the taser turned all the way up, you know what I’m saying…to knock me out,” said Armstrong.
Police say they were forced to Taser Armstrong after he reached into his pants.
“I didn’t reach for my pants, there’s no possible way that he thought I was reaching for my pants because when I got out ofthe car, I’m holding on to the car door.”
Armstrong says all he knows is what the hospital staff told him once he woke up.
“And I said, well, what happened. They said that the officer said that you fell.”
Brandon Lawrence, Armstrong’s lawyer, says this was clearly a case of excessive force.
“From the injuries he sustained…it seems that there was some excessive force that was used,” said Lawrence.
Armstrong says that his injuries couldn’t have been caused by him just falling to the ground.
“They’re saying that it was blunt force trauma, you know what I’m saying? And that it was an assault, there’s no way that it could have been, could have occurred from a fall,” explained Armstrong.
Armstrong was charged with speeding, evading police and driving with a suspended license.
