WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Nearly 60 percent of American voters say they lack faith in President Barack Obama, according to a public opinion poll published on Tuesday.

The results of the Washington Post/ABC News poll are a reversal of what voters said at the start of Obama's presidency 18 months ago when about 60 percent expressed confidence in his decision making.

Confidence in Obama is at a new low but the poll found that his numbers are still higher than lawmakers of either major party four months ahead of the November congressional elections.

Asked how much confidence they have in Obama to make the right decisions for the country's future, 58 percent of respondents said "just some" or "none."

Sixty-eight percent expressed the same sentiments about Democrats in Congress and 72 percent said the same of Republicans.

The Post said problems in the housing industry, sluggish job growth and other economic issues may have taken a toll on Obama's approval rating.

Just 43 percent of all Americans, including a third of Democrats, now say they approve of the job Obama is doing on the economy, while 54 percent disapprove.

The survey also found wide anti-incumbent sentiment with 62 percent of voters saying they were not inclined to support their current representative.

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs in the November 2 election as well as 36 of the 100 Senate seats.

Democrats now control both houses of Congress, but a slight majority of those polled said they would prefer to have Republicans in control to serve as a check on Obama's policies.

The poll of 1,288 people was conducted July 7-11 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Well....hell!  Are we gonna base what a poll of 1,288 folk say about my President as truth?  They don't represent ME!! Nope!  Listen, folks always say Koco why you sooooooooo devoted to Obama?  He hasn't proven what he claim he would do.  Blah Blah Blah.  I'm from old school.  Those who are too knows what that means.  And I'm gonna say it clearly enough for all to hear.  If James Brown ran for President, I would have voted for HIM!  If Bojangles ran...guess what?  I would vote for him.  That goes for any black man [except for OJ, Portier, Thomas and a few others I consider traders of their people-I have my principles ya know].  Cuz why?  Massa have focked over us for over 400 years[with Native Americans even more years]....this includes the years being President[s] in the white house.  We as a race did damn near EVERYTHING except run the country.  Massa has always delegated....never truly WORKED for anything....always had some worker doin it for him[he was the overseer/the boss since being in this country].  Well...to me that means massa lack experience of a working man...lack experience in creating, discovering, launching, in almost every human genre.  It's been all about the "dollar" bill.  He just been "playin" leader....So in my view, why not have the very people who have traditionally done everything anyway...leading this country?  We were kings and queens in Africa.  Who said we are NOT able to perform as leaders?  That's that slave brainwashing mentality.  Which is evident every time my President's not dancing fast enough.

When Nancy...oops I mean Reagan signed a bill to release all mental patients from hospitals.....did anyone question his thinking ability? Ah....hell nawl!  He was deteriorating mentally then.....rapidly declining in his logic capacity.  And he won TWICE!  As did the Bushes....[and baby Bush was a mere "C" student-if that] where did all these white Presidents lead us i.e. our economy?  Damn near in financial diseaster!  Remember my President did not CREATE this mess....but!  Everybody's expecting him to hurry up and clean up the mess and........ split the sea while he' s at it.   This is soooooooooo unfair.  Especially from the blackfolks who voted for him.  Where is the loyal?  The commitment to the bigger picture?  Why are we giving in to this "quick fix" mindset?  And why aren't we behind our President no matter what?     He. Is. The. FIRST Black President in United States HISTORY!!!  That should mean something!!!!  Especially, again, to the blackfolks, whose ancestors DIED for all now living and those coming to America to enjoy HUMAN rights they laid down their life for.  That milestone is HUGE and should never be minimized by the impatience of folks who have apparently LOST their vision.

I know Rome wasn't built in a day.  I know it will take time to undo a lot of things DONE by massa. I know our people are still suffering from the "isms" of slavery which were passed down generationally including the self-hating behavior seen in our community for too many years to mention.   We have a lot of work to do on an individually level....let alone as a group.  And who would have known the universe would open up and give us this "gift?"  A Black President.  Many blackfolks have said they NEVER thought they would live to see the day.  And it's here.  And what do we do as a people?  Hate on the gift our ancestors visualized for their descendants....us!  We are an example of what can be done....with a strong spirit and stalwart desire to see beyond the injustice and prevail.  We are THE only race to accomplish soooooo much as slaves, 2/3 humans, neegrows, coloreds, afro-American, black, African-American.  What a plight!  What an amazing plight.  And some of have the NERVE....the absolute ridiculous NERVE to play this arrogant game of snobbish disdain toward [again] the gift.  I say to those who do this:  SHAME.  ON.  YOU!!!!  Bunch of ungrateful, ignorant, siddity....nothings.  Not worth a penny. What the fock you doin' for your blackfolk? Probably.  Nothing...but!  Running your mouth in straight.   Stupidity!   Me?  I will NEVER defy my President...whatever the fock he does.  Cuz I know it has taken a LOT....A focking lot for him to get here.  Blood.  Sweat. Rape. Torture. Life Imprisionment.  Death.  That's what it took for those who don't know.  And I as an African American am forever grateful, humble for the sacrafice.....of all those blackfolks who collectively thought about me and my future...and were willing to UNSELFISHLY die for their vision to unfold.  That is so amazing to me.  Cuz why?  Their vision is now here. What other culture can CLAIM that?  Huh?   But!  I'm just sayin
I don't lack faith in Obama's abilities or his vision, however, I am extremely disappointed at how much time and opportunity to materialize his vision was wasted on the racist deaf ears of republicans.  Nevertheless, America's lack of faith should be geared toward Congress, a congress that includes republicans' that are will to see America crash like hell rather than cooperate with an African American president and to do the bidding of their true bosses --(big business and special interests groups that have lined their pockets with money) and democrats who sat and did freaking nothing when they had full control of Congress and parade around the media circuit giving excuses for each incident of them doing nothing when the had to power to make things happen, and THEIR being in the pockets of their campaign contributors, big business and special interest groups as well.

 True dat!    My sista...true dat
Yep ... I couldn't agree with you more, sunnubian!!

The biggest problem with the Democratic Party, though, is that the Republicans are not even their biggest enemy!!  The Democrats are detrimental to THEMSELVES, as well!

They are a fractured group ... several different ideologies battling against each other within the group as a whole.  A "conservative" Democrat is actually against most of the things the Democratic party stands for because they don't want to spend the money necessary to implement the kinds of programs and legislation that the Party believes Americans need.  Legislators from the deep South want/need different programs and provisions than what is looked for by those Representatives from the Midwest.

And instead of working together to find ways of compromise and give-and-take ... instead of being willing to give up their own petty, individual demands to unify against the hostile and unscruplous enemy known as the Republican Party ... they fight .. against each other and for themselves.  They can't (won't) commonly agree on anything ... without their individual concerns being heard and/or met.

The Repubs, on the other hand, are solid as a rock.  Whether or not they agree with each other about individual concerns .... they have a common purpose, enemy and goal:  Oppose President Obama and his democratic agenda.  It's as cut and dried as that ... and they will work as one cohesive unit to accomplish that mission, no matter what.

It's one of the main reasons why Michael Steele still has his job today.  No matter how big of a buffoon he is ... he IS still one of them .. and they will stand by their own no matter how big of an idiot it makes both of them look.  The Dems wouldn't even know what that's supposed to look like.

Why would anyone have faith in Obama? Getting emotional about politicians or the government is absurd. Isn't it obvious that the system has become too complex to control especially with all of the lies and confusion that it runs on. Xum
You know brotha Xum....Me!  I would have faith in Obama.  This country is based on an emotional injustice that has been ignored for over 500 years.  The system is based on a bunch of emotional [violent] thieves that not only took this land from the Native American....but!  Stole Africans from Africa and forced them to work without paid, without human rights while beating/killing them and separating them from their families and historically keeping them under the racist hammer long after slavery was over!  If that's not an emotional legacy...I don't know what is.  Just cuz folks are not talking about it....doesn't mean the ramifications of it is lost.  Nope!  It is still here. This "pink" elephant of silent emotion rampaging through our society destroying everything it touches.  And although many folks like to say it's absurd to get emotional about politicans or the government....the fact is...emotion is what fuels the system allowing people to think just cuz they are part of this dynamics of national "control" they are beyond reproach.  And can do what the hell they want..as they hide behind the biggest smoke screen:  govt/politics propaganda. The fact is the behavior/action is STILL emotional.  Just like the past violence and injustice are still emotional attributes...cuz why?  We. Are. People.  And that's [no matter how macho men try to deny it]  what "people" do?  Get emotional about things that affect their lives.  Even massa "lies"  are emotional cuz the white boy is passionate about keeping "his" control and power over the masses-which has been successful for over two thousand years.  And it's only deemed complex simply to distract and confused those who question the purpose.

Basic human behavior says that survival is derived from primal emotions to exist continually.  Which is why I [ and maybe I am alone in this...and that's cool] will always support Obama in the good times and the bad times.  Cuz I like the idea of having a Black leader.  Someone who looks like me.  yes, you can even say it's emotional.  Cuz massa has had the [emotional] opportunity to have his representatives all these years.   Why can't we?  Those geniuses weren't superheroes.  They didn't solve crises in less than two years-hell they created most of em out of greed, racism and selfishness.  In fact, the only ones to give them [prior presidents] their superhuman persona are the whitefolks-who have lived in lies and confusion about WHO they are to the world[as the fearful bully] since being in this country.  So  to close, I will just say to you my brotha....my loyalty lies with the gift from the universe:  Obama.  Martin saw him at the mountaintop and so did Malcolm during his final days.  I knew he was coming too.  I just didn't know when.  Now that he's here.  I'm gonna celebrate him and stand by him.  Cuz why?  We. Deserve. Him.  Our children, especially, deserve him.  He's not Perfect!  No "man" is....not even massa.  But. I'm just sayin

On the contrary .... the fact that politicians and government control the most important facets of our everyday lives (i.e., if, where and when we work, where and how we live, what we eat, the laws under which we live) should elicit a high degree of emotion ... if, in fact, we are concerned about any of that and how it affects us!!

The system is not too complex or even complicated to control ... the fact is most Americans don't know nor care enough about politics or the government to get involved in it (other than showing up at the polls on election day .. and then only for major elections .. and then (mostly) only if you're White 'cause the majority of Black folks don't do even that much either! ).

The truth is that citizens are able to control who and what politicians and the government are and what they do.  They could control the lies and confusion and corruption.  They just don't put forth that much effort.

To me, it's kinda like little kids who get a new bike for Christmas, and then sit on it, and without using the pedals, expect it to go.  When that doesn't happen, they get off of it, kick the tires, cuss it out and then go play with something else!

It would be nice to know how many politicians understand that planned obsolescence is going on in cars and have noticed that our economists say nothing about the depreciation of all of that junk.

If people can't understand the physics of an airliner hitting a skyscraper how can they know enough physics to evaluate automobiles?
