WASHINGTON, June 12 "” The Supreme Court ruled unanimously today that condemned prisoners can challenge the humaneness of the lethal blend of chemicals that are to be used to execute them.

I wonder what a "humane" form of execution might be? If we're concerned about the pain of the actual event, wouldn't the guillotine be about the quickest and cleanest way to do it? Should we go back to that? ek

There is no way to guarantee without a doubt that there is no pain associated with any form of death.... only circumstantial in my opinion...

unless you go through it.... you can't really be sure...

the humaneness is a reference to the living I believe who have to wrestle with the results societal decisions...

the brutality executed by our government and witnessed by its citizens has an effect on the security of its citizens....

just like death ceremonies.... the true benefactors are the living..... and how they cope with their beloved's departure.....

ummmm......

that said.... of course there are ways to try and measure pain...... by the body's responses to the event.....

* the sensibilities and values of the citizens
and the fall out of the reaction to an
execution....
* its weight against the injustice committed by
the criminal.. (the degree of justice for the
victim)
* the human body's responses to different forms
of execution...
* the effectiveness of the criminal justice
system in determining whether or not the
"criminal" did in fact commit the crime...

etc.... are all reasons to consider...

To my understanding, you get two shots..

The first will simply put you to sleep and the only pain you feel is the prick of the first needle..

The second is the "lethal" dosage of potassium chloride. Enough to stop a elephants heart...

That WAS the general understanding. Current research tells us that the person being executed is completely paralyzed - but otherwise sensing and feeling everything and that s/he feels incomprehensible pain as the NaCl is injected and s/he is conscious while both asphyxiated and tortured with pain through this process. That's what is driving all of this.
Speaking of lethal injection and inmates, can someone explain why "Tookie" Williams was executed and yet Charles Manson is STILL alive? Manson is over 72 years old, been in and out of jail since he was 12 years old, before Tookie was even born. His mother was a hooker, and he has spent over 80% of his life in prison.

Why is this racist, maniacal fucker still sucking oxygen to this day? What's there to study about him? He's never shown any hint of remorse for any of his misdeeds. What book has Manson written for children? Roll Eyes

If police psychiatrists haven't learned anything about dysfunctional living flourishes and spreads through a person's life without any positive options or detours, then just stomp the damn roach and let's move on.

Two words: HE'S WHITE.

And to make matters worse, the evidence against Tookie was never proven. It was all circumstantial evidence. If Tookie had been a rich White man, they would have never accepted such flimsy and speculatory evidence to put him in jail. Manson on the other hand ADMITTED to his crimes and it's been proven.

That's why, besides all of the other logical reasons, it makes no sense to me for any African Americans to support the death penalty. Simply put... it does not, nor has it ever, worked in our best interests.

Two more words: No Shit! bs Jeffery Dahmer is dead. Ted Bundy is dead. John Wayne Gacy is dead. All these guys were just as evil as Manson, but they, like Tookie Williams were executed. So let me re-ask this question: Besides being a white male, why is Manson, 72, is still alive in prison and not executed? What have criminal psychologists yet to learn from Manson, that they haven't learned from Dahmer, Gacy or Bundy?

Manson was a psycho coward. He had others do the murdering for him. That's the difference between him and the other psychos you mentioned.
