The strange phenomenon of black anti-Semitism

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted: April 24, 2002
8:55 p.m. Eastern

Anti-Semitism in America, according to a survey commissioned by the Anti-Defamation League, stands at an all-time low. But alarmingly, the survey found blacks three to four times more likely than non-blacks to be anti-Semitic.

Black Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, D-Ga., urges America to rethink its support of Israel. Reverend Jesse Jackson, who once called Jews "Hymie" and New York City "Hymie-town," now demands that George Bush ensure the safety of Palestinian Authority leader Yasser Arafat.

Jackson's acolyte, Al Sharpton, once referred to Jews as "diamond merchants." In 1991, Sharpton turned the death of a black child in a traffic accident in Brooklyn, involving a Hasidic Jew, into a racial incident. Sharpton led 400 protesters through the Jewish section of Crown Heights. There were four nights of rock- and bottle-throwing, and a young Talmudic scholar was surrounded by a mob shouting, "Kill the Jew," and was stabbed to death.

The Nation of Islam's Louis Farrakhan recently likened the "plight" of black Americans to that of the Palestinians, noting blacks "were in the same position." Farrakhan also exaggerates the Jewish role in slavery, and once called Hitler a "great man" and Judaism a "gutter religion."

Black Fox News analyst Juan Williams criticizes Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon for behaving like a "bull in a china shop." Former Harvard professor Cornel West criticized his Harvard president and called him the "Ariel Sharon of higher education," saying, "he struck me very much as a bull in a china shop."

In the Palestinian-Israeli dispute, there is a bewildering failure on the part of many people, especially blacks, to differentiate firefighter from arsonist. Given the tremendous historical Jewish support for blacks, this insensitivity toward Jews and Israel suggests ignorance and lack of gratitude.

Fact: Jews helped to fund Booker T. Washington's Tuskegee Institute. Washington asked Julius Rosenwald – a Jewish trustee of Tuskegee – to help, not only with higher education, but also with Southern black elementary schools. Rosenwald funded the building of 5,300 black schools across the South.

Fact: The black monthly magazine Emerge asked people to assess the following statements: Do blacks complain about racism? Do blacks stick to themselves? Do blacks prefer welfare? Are blacks less ambitious, too loud and pushy, not as hardworking, not as honest, have too much power in the U.S.? In every case, Jews were the least likely of any group to answer "true" to those statements. Jews showed less racism toward blacks than any other group.

Fact: In 1984-85 and 1991, Israel airlifted 20,000 black Ethiopian Jews from persecution and famine in Africa.

Fact: During the 1960s, many white Northerners worked as "freedom fighters," risking their lives to come to the South and encourage blacks to vote. In 1964, of those whites who went to Mississippi to register blacks to vote, three-quarters were Jews.

Fact: Unlike any other group in America, as Jews become more affluent they do not leave the allegedly "pro-minority" Democratic Party and defect to the "pro-wealthy" Republicans. So despite the growing wealth of Jews and the high-tax policies of Democrats, Jews remain in the party out of a sense of empathy, sensitivity and compassion for those less fortunate.

Fact: Jack Greenberg, a Jewish lawyer, was an important legal strategist in helping the NAACP in Thurgood Marshall's Brown v. Board of Education case, which struck down the doctrine of separate but equal. (When Greenberg tried to teach a civil rights course at Harvard, students protested, arguing a black man should teach the course!)

Fact: 30 percent of Muslims in America today are black, some embracing the religion in order to reject "Western Civilization, culture and religion." Many blacks also give their kids Arabic-sounding names. But most blacks don't know that Arab slavers brought more slaves to South America and to the Middle East than European slavers brought to North America. In "Conquests and Cultures," Thomas Sowell writes, "By the time the Europeans discovered the Western Hemisphere at the end of the 15th century, Muslim merchants already dominated the slave trade in West Africa, as they did in East Africa and North Africa. The Islamic jihads of the 18th and 19th centuries created new Muslim states in West Africa, which in turn promoted enslavement on a larger scale. Altogether, between 1650 and 1850, at least 5 million slaves were shipped from West Africa alone." And while slavery ended in the West, says Sowell, "In some Islamic countries in Africa and the Middle East, slavery lasted even longer. Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, and Sudan continued to hold slaves on past the middle of the 20th century."

Fact: When Sidney Poitier accepted his honorary award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, he rattled off a list of persons who stuck their necks out for his career, many of whom were Jews.

So, to America's "black leaders," care to reconsider?

You see this is the problem. Anyone who disagrees with anything Israel does is labled anti-semitic. It is funny actually to hear Larry Elder say this, because he is always saying that blacks are always pulling out the "race card".

I am SO freakin' tired of being labeled anti-semetic if I critise the well-documented human rights violations of the Israli government or the aggressiveness and narrow-mindedness of zionists. Since when does crticism of a GOVERNMENT translate into a racial dislike of the PEOPLE of the government??? Whenever someone lobs that "anti-semetic" charge at me, I ask them if they agree with how the Chinese government handled protestors in Tianamen Square, and when they inevitably say no, I ask why they're racist against Chinese people. Even so, few get the point that a race of people exists independently of the policies of their government.
Is there any validity to what Elder is saying?? Is there a problem in the black community of anti-semitism.---Sweetwuzzy

I was going to respond to the 'fact list' in Elder's article, but that's old stuff.

This is really the question.

Yes. There has always been in the 'black' community with anti-Jewishness.

The problem is:

Jews feed on us when it is to their advantage.

Repress us when it is to their adbantage.

But mostly esploit us when it is to their advantage.

Collectively.

Jews, typically, 'help' us, one or more, OR a few at-a-time...AND

Typically, Jews, as a people, stand mute while we get our asses kicked.

Oh...

There is no malice in this.

It's simply a fact.

One has to ALWAYS add a disclaimer.

The Jewish community has done a great job of characterizing any criticism against Israel as anti-semitism. Why shouldn't Americans be thoughtful about its policy toward any and every country? Perhaps we should start labeling their opposition to affirmative action as racist.---MBM

Precisely!!

It's 'knee-jerk' in quickness.

When they encounter me in private places, they 'whisper in my ear' with friendly advice, of course, to tell me that my approach to identity in TRUCULENT!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for responding with labeling, I put their charges in the 'European' category only with a 'twist'.

I wouldn't waste my time.

Damn this lie will never die....Elder should be ashamed of Himself for repeating this crap.

Minister Farrakhan called Hitler "Great" in the same way we call the depression "Great". He has explained this numerous times...Minister Farrakhan never called Judaism a gutter religion...He said that "There can be no peace stuctured on injustice, thievery, lying and deceit, and using God's name as a shield for your gutter religion in his holy and righteous name".

He said using God's name (Judaism) as a shield, for a gutter religion..Means someone wearing righteous garbs as a way to deflect from a real agenda of trickery.

The Minister has explained this several times as well...But folks continue telling this same lie...over, and over, and over again.

Is there an anti jewish sentiment in the black community...generally...No.

MBM, your statement that Jews are against AA does not make sense, they vote Democrat as much as black people for the party that backs AA.
one thing i would like to see laid to rest is the jewish monopolization of the phrase/term Semitic.

they are not the only semitic peoples.

some groups of black people are semitic..

according to "english" dictionaries semitic is a language grouping and not a racial grouping..

hebrew is one of many afro-asiatic/semtic languages..

one of the battlefields that white people wage war on is the war for ideas and this is an example of how they very strategically re-define words in their own dictionaries...

i have provided a link and definitions from merriam-websters' online dictionary..

Semetic. 1: Of, relating to, or constituting a subfamily of the Afro-Asiatic language family that includes Hebrew, Aramaic (Ancient Syria), Arabic, and Amharic(Ethiopian). 2: Of, relating to, or characteristic of the Semites

Semite. 1a: A member of any of a number of peoples of ancient southwestern Asia including the Akkadians, Phoenicians, Hebrews, and Arabs. 1b: A descendant of these peoples. 2 : A member of a modern people speaking a Semitic language.

Afro-Asiatic: of, relating to, or being a family of languages widely distributed over southwestern Asia and Africa including the Semitic, Egyptian(African), Berber(North African), Cushitic (African) , and Chadic (African) subfamilies.

Berber: 1: a member of any of various peoples living in northern Africa west of Tripoli. 2a: a branch of the Afro-Asiatic language family comprising languages spoken by various peoples of northern Africa and the Sahara (as the Tuaregs and the Kabyles) b : any one of the Berber languages.

Cushitic: a subfamily of the Afro-Asiatic language family comprising various languages spoken in eastern Africa and especially in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, and Kenya.

For the record, Kai, Farrakhan didn't actually use the word "gutter." The word he used was "dirty." As you state, by "Dirty religion" he wasn't referring to Judaism. he was referring to Zionism, or more precisely, he was saying that it was "dirty religion" to claim that the taking of Palestine was God's plan.
Larry Elder is a patsy for international finance capital and imperialism. Anywhere else in the world condemnation for the imperialist occupation of Palestine is not considered an 'anti-Jewish' sentiment. Israel recieves 1/3 of U.S. foreign aid because it is the American imperialist outpost in the Middle East, ready to do it's dirty work(fighting Syrian funded Hezbollah in Lebenon, which will be the excuse the U.S. needed to invade Syria, if Israel doesn't do it for them). Hence anything said against Israel is also a hit against U.S. interest in the region. Zionism helped fund the Apartheid regime, circumventing the international boycott of South African products by having unfinished S.A. products finished in Isreal, and sold with Israeli origin labels globally. Theodore Herzl, Zionist ideological founder preferred Mozambique, Kenya, and Uganda as locations for Israel, and considered other parts of S. Amerikkka and Asia prior to 1948, but couldn't come up with the gross reinterpretation of Judaic aspirations along lines congruent with European colonial expansion to set up an exculive borgeoise imperialist Jewish state for anywhere else but Palestine.

The Zonists are also heavily involved in the Blood Diamond trade from Sierre Leone, the Central African Republic, The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uranium exploitation in Gabon and the D.R.C.

So I guess these guys are ant-semetic too...

In the eyes of the US gov't, Israel can do no wrong. Israel is to ignorant US Zionism-supporters what Shirley Temple was to White American audiences.

At another forum, I called Israel an apartheid state because they treat non-White Jews and non-Whites and non-Jews in general in Israel like second-class citizens, especially the native Palestinians. And some Republican and a Zionist called me a "Jew hater". Mad bang

yeah

I concur. I wrote a article entitled " The Scrabble Among Men"....in regards to anti-semiticism and anti-Black sensitivities. MBM, let's be honest. Anyone who is aganst Affirmative action IS labled racist or a supporter of white supremacy...

I was going to respond to the 'fact list' in AElder's article, but that's old stuff.

PEACE

Jim Chester

Any examples of Jews doing this ?? When have Jews stand mute when blacks were getting our asses kicked, and how are they any different then everybody else. Do you put Jews to a higher standard then others ?

My next question is why isn't their this much animosity( for a lack of words) towards Islam and Arabs??

Currently, under European based global capitalism(which the Zionists are a tool of), our enemy's enemy is our man. Fighting on two fronts always screws things up. Plus, few of us are speaking Arabic(who don't also speak English) so it is clear where the primary contradiction in our lives originates, after we resolve that issue, then we can 'take care of' the secondary issues. We don't want to repeat Idi Amin's mistake.

I'm speaking on a global level of course.

As far as the animosity towards the monopoly of Arab(and other Asian) store owners in our communities in the U.S. (which also happens with Lebenese and Indian store owner in the diaspora and Africa BTW), I would suggest getting rid of the system that perpetuates this mess...They are just a buffer class anyhow... Unlike the Zionists who are financiers and global players in the imperialist game.
