Michael Richards, the man who played "Cosmo Kramer" on the sitcom "Seinfeld" got in trouble for going on a tirade calling a man in the audience a "nigger" several times. He even boasted "50 years ago your ass would be hanging from a tree!"

Peace....

Once again, just because a person stops l;ying, stealing, cheating, or being racist in the open does not mean that they have changed...Racism, and bigotry only need an avenue and it will clearly demonstrate the fact that it is not dead...Not even close...

We keep hoping that things will change...'

How many generations of whites wioll have to slap us before we get the fact that we can't just hope a condition like this away...

No beloved.... but we can certainly strive to fight measures to help get jobs in their businesses... homes in their neighborhoods... access to the schools they have set up so they can be away from us... and protest when their police beat the hell out of us unjustly ....

and celebrate our achievements.... as we remind ourselves that we are one big happy society, and that we are really just righting wrongs, and we must not forget all the nice things white folk have done for us...

all of them aren't bad... some are genuinely interested in our curious culture and lurves the hell out of our men...

(insert really happy grin here....)
Man, I have to tell you: I used to LAUGH MY A$$ OFF AT COSMO KRAMER!

So naturally, I was startled to see and hear his tirade. I said, "And another one bites the dust!"

While I know that there are those who are still racist at their core, it is STILL surprising when you find out that someone you've come to like is like this! I don't know how many times I've come to like someone or what they DO in life, only to be disappointed by their racial views. That is a serious let down.

But then I remember: nobody is loyal to me. Just because I can see something I have in common with someone or just because I like some things they bring DOES NOT mean that they are thinking the same way about me or BLACK People in general.

Even in that, I still make efforts to get along with all People. Some White People may piss me off royally, but so do some Black People, and some Asian People and some Indian People, and some Latino People....LOL....

Like I said before, there are idiots in EVERY race. That DOES NOT mean that you need to write everybody off as bad because they're not.

I don't know why any other Blacks would be surprised about a Rapper or a Comic using the "N" Word. A few ignorant Blacks think it''s cool for them to do so, but when a White uses it, it suppose to be different than when a Black uses it.

It's just a sense of ignorance that younger Blacks have, that don't know where the word comes from, and who it's direct at, and what it really means. the Word is a derogatory word use to define Blacks, and anything else someone tells you is a lie, and they think you are stupid, and don't know any better.

That's why you have Chinese running around using the word like it's something funny, but the are making fun of Blacks and youngers Blacks don't get the point. They sit around and smoke that Weed and Crack, and they don't have any sense of awareness about anything.

Cris Rock uses it all the time in his Act, and I guess he think it something cool or funny because people laugh, but I haven't heard him say anything about Michael using it.

Dumb Blacks seem to think it's alright for a black to use it when referring to blacks or in conversation with another black, but that's the dumbest thing i've every heard of.

Many of us older Blacks have been in those southers communities where whites have used that word as a hate tool to kill, and discriminate against blacks, and it's no joke. And if someone say so, he/she is an "Airhead" who has no sinse of reality whatsoever.

CHICAGO -- After a racist rant onstage, comic actor Michael Richards, a k a "Kramer," is making his move. The "Seinfeld" co-star is now reaching out to civil rights leaders -- including Jesse Jackson.

Late Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Jesse Jackson received two phone calls from Richards. The actor who played Jerry Seinfield's wacky neighbor is seeking advice and forgiveness for his racial tirade at an the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles.

Jackson said he can forgive Richards, but Richards needs to address the rage from within.

Jackson also received a phone call from Jerry Seinfield, who asked Jackson to evaluate the situation and get back to him.

Jackson called a number of black leaders, but it is unknown whether Jackson returned both of the phone calls.

Two men, who said they were the targets of the rant, told their story on the "Today Show."

They hired celebrity attorney Gloria Allred, who said the two men deserve compensation for their pain.

He was like, 'When I wake up, I'm still going to be rich, but when you wake up, you're still going to be the "N" word," said one of the men.

"Everybody was in shock,'" said the other, named Frank McBride. "I looked at my girlfriend and she was like, blown away. Her mouth dropped."
I remember an episode of "Seinfeld" where Kramer was dating a Black woman and he went to the tanning salon to make himself darker-looking. But he stayed there too long and it looked like he was in blackface.

His girlfriend's father looks at Kramer with his tanning lap-burned face and says to her (which totally decribes Michael's rant), "I thought you said you were going to bring home a white boy. I don't see no white boy, I see a damn fool!"
And after all that, Richards swears up and down that he's not a racist.

Well, that just proves that at least 90 percent of white folks think blacks are niggers.

And those who can't tell the difference between what Richards did and what rap artists do should just shut the f*ck up. Even when "nigger" was used in an episode of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" it was used in an artful manner. Richards, who compounded his niggering with a comment about sticking a pitchfork up a black man's ass, was clearly being hostile.
I find it really amazing how many people have come forward with statements defending Kramer, calling Blacks hypocrites for using the term, or saying that he was provoked into it.

What makes me call it a racist statement isn't merely Kramer saying "nigger" a few times. I have a feeling that many Whites feel its not a racist term any more. But how can you defend the statement, "If this were 50 years ago, you'd be hanging from a tree"? Sorry, but thats just a racist statement, and a threat.

One thing I'm doing is taking names cause a lot of these people who are defending Kramer are just trying to cover up for their own racist emotions. Its sad.
Michael Richard's hair is mighty krinkly. I believe when so-called "whites" act in that manner, they're fighting the African within themselves. All this racial hatred is making the Caucasian an insane gang of "people". The cops are doing abominable things. It's getting most-impossible to live amongst them, all this killing, tasering, etc., etc.

If the recruiter comes a-callin' for my grandsons, I'll make sure the whole silverware drawer is hanging from allllllllll their butts, not just the forks.
Because of media overkill I haven't been really following all the interviews about this story, but I'm wondering a couple of things like ... was it a predominantly White audience, and what did they think about the tirade? The one lady can be heard saying "Oh my God", but what about the rest? I believe I can hear chuckling throughout the audience, but I did hear one person interviewed say that you could hear a pin drop when he first said it? Confused

While I'm sure there are some audiences where this would have gone over quite well, I think it would be interesting to know how this audience really responded. Knowing Cali people and Los Angeles folks especially, I would think most of them found it offensive and not a joke, as well. And that would be telling and a good sign, I think.
Taking names? What can you do about it? I believe Michael had some type of Mental Breakdown that was building up for some time, and it was all based on his lack of success after his career went in the Tank after Seinfeld ended.

Many Whites have these Racist thoughts, but few will express them publically with a fear of losing economic opportunities. But Michael probably won't recover anytine soon, because his prospects for employment weren't that good before the incedent.

But look what happened to Mel Gibson who offended the Jews, he's out there now promoting his recent Movie which many Critics think will be a big hit. Keep one thing in mind the Jews he offended control the Movie Industry.

Most of those Comedy Club Audiences have what I consider a 'Cult" Following. They just go for entertainment where the Attraction is acting a fool. There is always a reasonable number of Blacks in attendance, at most of these Clubs. Most Cities have three or four of such Clubs. The "Improv" is probably the most popular, historically. These type of Gig's keep Comic's working in-between TV Shows and Movies. Sinbad was in the Audience that night, and sometimes new Comics get a chance to show what they got during "Open Mike" night.

I used to watch the odd episode of Seinfeld here and found most of it funny.
When I first read about this I thought "no way!" and I also wondered what reaction the audience gave. Didn't anyone (white especially) say anything? I am shocked.

qty226 - even though I live 'over here' not there, I am surpised that whites use the N word - and shocked they (still) use it more than black people.

I agree with leart, to me it has never been an empowering word, in my mind, it's creation and use has always negative and derogative, whoever uses it or tries to own it.

The N word is bad enough, but the comment "50 years ago your ass would be hanging from a tree!" - I'd find it very hard to forgive or forget. I can't fathom where the man's mind is at. Confused To me it's sickening and despicable. Everyone I know that I've spoken to about the Kramer incident is shocked.
.
I've never watched Seinfeld and although I know who the man is, I don't think I've ever seen him other than this whole Laugh Factory incident. I think this is really just another example of how racism, although not as blantant as it once was, is still just under the surface for many many white people, and Black folks as well. I've wanted to say some down right racist things to a few white people in my lifetime, but I've learned that some things just should NOT be said... it's called self censorship. Which obviously this dude completely lacked. So, "Kramer", lie on that sword.
Here's what Sharpton thinks about it!

quote:
Sharpton Rejects Kramer's Apology 11/22/2006 13:57

Rev. Al Sharpton, longtime community activist and one-time presidential candidate, today rejected the apology of Seinfeld star Michael "Kramer" Richards made on David Letterman's Late Show. The National Action Network President and current host of the three hour syndicated talk show, The Rev. Al Sharpton Show wants Richards to specifically apologize to Black America, stating the David Letterman Show was an unacceptable venue for an apology.
Sharpton stated: "Before any apology should even be considered, Michael Richards should apologize to the people to whom his remarks were directed and most offended. In all due respect to David Letterman, it seems strange that one would insult African Americans in a long tirade and then go on a white television show with a mostly white studio and viewing audience to make a statement of apology. If Mr. Richards has something to say, he should say it to us, and let us respond to him. Mr. Letterman, who is a fine gentleman, is in no position to discuss whether his apology should be accepted or rejected."

Sharpton said he will make his own syndicated radio talk show available if Mr. Richards is sincerely seeking a dialogue with those he offended. Sharpton's show broadcasts live daily in twenty-five station across the country syndicated on Syndication One, Today, an African American member of the audience who was present at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles when the remarks were made was on Sharpton's radio show to describe the incident in detail.

These people are not sorry for what they said. Once they realize what they said is being disected by the Public, they try to backtract for fear of a loss in Income.

So I don't understand why some Blacks are interested in Michael making a, so called, public apology in a Black environment, since it don't mean squat. Once you have said it, you can't take it back. Apologies are somewhat silly. If it wasn't on your mind you wouldn't have said it in the first place.

Republicans make derogatory statements in Political Ad's about their opponents all the time, and come back a day or so later to indicate what they said was taken out of context, but they ment what they said the first time.

Blacks are always indicating to these people that they can be Played, so they keep trying to play Blacks as being gullable and stupid, but after they apologize they run back home and start grinning and laughing among themselves as if they have won the game.

Plus the fact that it's not like Michael is an important person who controls the general welfare of many Blacks, he just a Comedian who performed on a TV Serice that ended several years ago. I don't think he never has, and probably never will put any food on any Black people tables.
