She was blonde, blue-eyed, tall and shapely, but to me, it was apparent that her mother, while carrying her, had abused alcohol,i.e. alcohol fetal syndrom, was apparent. This/was not a snipe.

Jumping in a bit late on this as the topic has taken a slightly different turn ... it is my experience that white men will approach me wherever I am and attempt to strike up conversations with me. It is not really annoying or anything because I use it as an opportunity to give them my business card and perhaps gain a new client.
Brothers, on the other hand, understand the body language of our culture. It is my practice to acknowledge a Brother or Sister with a smile, eye contact, or whatever is appropriate for the situation. The gesture is usually returned unless the Brother is with a white woman ... they usually hang their heads down and pretend they don't see me.
I prefer to maintain an air of dignity as do most of the Sisters I know. I want to be approached - not do the approaching - and I open the door by acknowledging my Brothers in our aforementioned body language.
White women are more aggressive than Sisters when approaching Brothers and that's universal.
Firefly: Don't take it personally when Brothers and Sisters discuss our encounters and experiences with white people. Our reality is different than yours and our experiences are as well. We generalize about white people because many of us generally have similar experiences. No one is attacking you personally ... we are simply sharing our life experience.

I just continue to be amazed at how some of these women behave. It's plain ugly. 
You are of course correct that I don't know how it is over there - I just find it frustrating and want to go over there and 
some of those gurls' butts!You are also correct about the smile thing - although we are talking about totally different situations - I think it's nice that mostly if I smile at a BM then I get a smile back... with white men it's only sometimes. All men can be arrogant but not all men can be warm and generous...
