#VeteransForKaepernick Takes Off to Support Quarterback's Political Protest

U.S. military veterans are speaking out in support of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, whose protest against the national anthem prompted a wave of criticism claiming he had disrespected veterans by not paying tribute to the American flag.

The hashtag #VeteransForKaepernick took off on Twitter this week in response to the right-wing outrage, and as Kaepernick himself clarified that his sit-down protest was only meant to critique state violence and oppression against people of color.

"I have great respect for the men and women that have fought for this country," he said Sunday. "I have family, I have friends that have gone and fought for this country. And they fight for freedom, they fight for the people, they fight for liberty and justice, for everyone. [But] people are dying in vain because this country isn't holding their end of the bargain up, as far as giving freedom and justice, liberty to everybody."

Urgent!

The hashtag began trending Tuesday night as veterans posted photos of themselves in their military gear and noted the hypocrisy of the backlash against Kaepernick.

"I'd never try to shame someone with 'patriotism' in order to silence their 1st amend Right," one wrote.

"Don't use my service—or that of any veteran—to justify the silencing of black Americans. Not on my watch," said another.

Meanwhile, others pointed out that even the national anthem itself has a racist undertone, with one verse ending in a celebration of slavery. And as Oakland, California-based writer Elizabeth Ann Thompson wrote for The Progressive on Tuesday, "instead of being offended and reacting to Kap's protest, we should emulate his teammates in trying to understand where he is coming from. He is giving voice to the voiceless. He is speaking for Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray and the countless other black and brown folks who are killed by the police every year."

Don't use my service--or that of any veteran--to justify the silencing of black Americans. Not on my watch.

@Kaepernick7 I served 25yrs in the AF to protect everyone's 1st Amend rights. I support you

Sit with Colin Kaepernick

By refusing to stand during the national anthem, San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Colin Kaepernick is making an important, bold rebuke of police violence against Black people.

Kaepernick joins a long history of Black athletes using their platforms to advance racial and gender justice issues - like Tommie Smith and John Carlos giving the Black Power salute during the national anthem at the 1968 Olympics and Jackie Robinson writing that he could not salute the flag as “a Black man in a white world.”

Colin Kaepernick is demanding that America live up to its own ideals and address the oppression of people of color. To express your support for this brave athlete, please add your name to this short statement, supported by RootsAction and Color of Change.

Let's all stand up by sitting down!!

Jason Whitlock Dismisses Kaepernick’s Protest Because Getting Killed by a Cop is ‘Nearly Impossible’

On the Sept. 6 edition of FOX Sports One’s “Speak For Yourself,” commentator Jason Whitlock calls San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick’s protest a fad.

Whitlock believes Kaepernick is only protesting to improve his brand as a QB.

He adds that police brutality is a “hot take” — provocative commentary to spark emotional reaction — and says the violence in Chicago is more pressing.

“… The whole police brutality thing is a hot take,” Whitlock starts. “Everybody loves a hot take because it is good for clicks, retweets, likes and popularity and relevancy … This is the new version of the dab.”

Later on in the clip, the commentator dismisses  Kaepernick’s protest altogether because 500 people have died in Chicago with little to no outrage.

“Five hundred people have been killed in Chicago already … No one is talking about that … Getting killed by a cop is very hard. And if you don’t run from ’em, it’s damn-near impossible.”

Whitlock just hasn't walked into the wrong neighborhood and suffered mistaken identity. Those cop bullets don't segregate. Take off that hat and suffer one for your race, asshole.

Colin, you could have just said you have bad knees and alleviated all this holier than thou bullshit, but then you probably wouldn't have made the team. There's always something/someone that will disagree. I'm not one of those. Kudos to you, from me. We do what we do. You're a handsome dude!! That's a plus as far as football dudes go for me. Pretty butts, handsome faces! That's it for me.

That was OJ back in the day, for me. Franco Harris!!!! Yep!!!

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York pledged $1 million to improving racial and economic inequality and building a stronger relationship between law enforcement authorities and the communities they serve.

York announced the donation Thursday, following quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s pledge to give $1 million to help underserved communities. Kaepernick announced his pledge last week after he refused to stand for the national anthem in protest of racial oppression and police brutality in the United States.

York said the Niners will partner with the Silicon Valley Community Foundation and the San Francisco Foundation in this effort. He says both organizations have “proven track records” of affecting change.

Like that! May we be exalted and say yeah while WTF goes off in all directions.

I liked Hillary calling Shit's followers - "the deplorables".  Now if we can get to the point of finally calling out racism and naming Anti-American racist cops and racist actors as deplorable domestic terrorists, that would be real.  Meanwhile, Shit's fan-boy David Duke literally defines anti-racism as anti-white. Everybody vote too!

Too much hatred and discontent among the immigrants, which damn near everyone is, except the Original Natives. Africans didn't come here voluntarily, so secretly, we're considered "refugees", unless we're part of the Original Natives. So many lies and distortions, we might be the WHITES; they might be the BLACKS. Had we all been born in Japan, would we all be Japanese?? I don't think so; nor do the Japanese.

We are what we are; our parents' productions; no more, no less, until we aren't any longer. No different than the fucking ant you just stepped on, the deer you shot, or your fellow human you just plowed with a bullet. We live until we die. That's everything that's breathing. No one's SPECIAL; we're all presently alive.

You can call yourself Dumbo, the Flying Elephant if it makes you feel special. What are you REALLY?? Who said??

Warriors Players Share Thoughts on Colin Kaepernick’s Protest, Possibility of Joining

Since NFL player Colin Kaepernick began his protest of the national anthem, Golden State Warriors players Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala voiced their support of the matter.

Kaepernick stated the move spotlights the oppression of Black men and women, according to Atlanta Black Star.

Speaking with The Undefeated, Iguodala shared that his son understands what message the footballer is trying to send.

“The problem is no one wants to accept what he is saying,” Iguodala said. “They want to be blind to the fact that we are treated this way. And when someone does stand up, they don’t like the gesture or the way they’re standing up. They’re not getting to the actual issue.”

Durant, who is new to the Warriors, explained Kaepernick’s first goal was to begin conversations about social injustice.

“It was not about how he was going to give the message,” Durant said of the San Francisco 49er sitting and then kneeling during the anthem. “It was what he was trying to get out, the change that needs to happen in our country. And I think just having that conversation is great.”

But Warriors forward Draymond Green believed “it’s not just the killing of Black people” that needs to change.

While he backed Kaepernick’s actions, he wondered what was next.

However, Thompson thought the quarterback had a definitive plan “to make [a] change.”

“He’s just not trying to get attention,” he told the sports website. “He’s really trying to make a difference. He’s getting all the jersey sales and he’s pledging $1 million to different organizations. It’s great. I don’t think he is trying to disrespect the military or anyone who has fought representing this country. I think he is trying to make a change for people who don’t have a voice like he does.”

Warriors point guard Stephen Curry told The Undefeated there is a “100 percent” chance the team will speak about possibly making a uniform gesture to spotlight police violence against Black Americans.

Team coach Steve Kerr revealed he will leave the choice to protest up to individual players.

But newcomer David West doesn’t know if he will engage.

Regardless, he said anyone looking to participate should feel “personally convicted.”

“Feel like if you’re doing something, what you’re doing is from you and not because it’s the popular thing to do.”

Obama Reminds Solider That Kaepernick Has A Right To Protest Like Anyone Else

On Sept. 28, President Barack Obama defends his support of San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick’s right to protest in a CNN Presidential Town Hall.

In the clip, First Lieutenant James Sutter asks Obama about Kaepernick’s protest during the “typically respected” national anthem. Unbeknownst to him, Obama has answered this question before stating that he supported the QB early on. Now, the president reiterates those sentiments. He says that Kaepernick and other players have his support because protest is American.

“… I want them to listen to the pain of those [who may have lost a loved one in war]. But I also want people to think about the pain that he may be expressing about somebody who’s lost a loved one that they think was unfairly shot.”

If people really stopped to think about ALL the slaughtering of people on these shores over the eons, no one would stand to sing or salute a damn thing!!!!! There really shouldn't be anything but tears flowing.White people really don't belong HERE, they belong in EUROPE. That's the bottom line. EUROPE is a separate continent from where AMERICA's located. Just because you call yourself something, doesn't mean that's who you truly are. Jewish people and other foreign people changed their names to fit in with their surroundings. That made them comfortable, that didn't change who they REALLY were. That's the phoniness about "America." People are living SO MANY LIES. SO MANY LIES, and they're comfortable with the situation. Comfortable LIARS; EUROPEANS calling themselves "AMERICANS". That isn't TRUE!!!!!! You are EUROPEANS, that's all you'll EVER BE. HATEFUL, MURDEROUS people, you are too!!!!!! Somehow, your ugly asses CONTROL EVERYTHING/EVERYONE HERE; how is that possible?? You slaughtered your way to undeserved made-up TITLES. You're dangerous and severely unlikable. That's what you really are and one day your time will END.

I guess that is one way to stop the protesting stuff...

A local ESPN radio affiliate plans to “protest the protest” by some East Carolina band members during the national anthem of last week’s game, choosing not to air the Pirates’ upcoming game at all.

Colonial Media and Entertainment, which operates ESPN Fayetteville (100.1 FM), announced its decision in a statement on Tuesday.

Several members of the band refused to play the National Anthem and others ‘took a knee’ during the performance, with the result that roughly a dozen band members disgraced themselves on the football field this past weekend,” chairman/CEO Jeff Andrulonis said, according to sports anchor Mark Armstrong of ECU’s local ABC affiliate .

“I’m proud of our country and I’m proud of our soldiers...especially our soldiers from Fort Bragg...fighting for our country so I’ve decided that ESPN Fayetteville will ‘protest the protest,’” Andrulonis added. He said that band members should understand that they have freedom of speech, but that they do not have the right to do whatever they want “with no repercussions.”

"As an institution of higher learning, East Carolina respects the rights of our students, staff and faculty to express their personal views,” university chancellor Dr. Cecil Staton said in a statement. “That is part of the free exchange of ideas on a university campus. While we acknowledge and understand the disappointment felt by many Pirate fans in response to the events at the beginning of today's football game, we urge all Pirate students, supporters and participants to act with respect for each other's views. Civil discourse is an East Carolina value and part of our ECU creed. We are proud that recent campus conversations on difficult issues have been constructive, meaningful exchanges that helped grow new understanding among our campus community. East Carolina will safeguard the right to free speech, petition and peaceful assembly as assured by the U.S. Constitution."

*** I'm not really sure if I would care if I were a football player, cheerleader, or band member.  It is not like they pay them for being on TV.  I'll be funny if the game turns out to be one of those Instant Classic games  that people talk about for decades.

So, who is the racist 'owner' that not only believes he has the right to deny American citizens their Constitutionally Protected Rights, but who [evidently] also believes that he can violate the legal contract(s) of the player(s).

The guy in the video is right, "It's not about the Anthem or Veterans".

It's really about a RACIST NFL OWNER WHO BELIEVES THAT BLACK LIVES DO NOT MATTER AND WHO BELIEVES THAT THERE ARE TWO CONSTITUTIONS IN AMERICA, A CONSTITUTION FOR WHITE PEOPLE AND A CONSTITUTION FOR BLACK PEOPLE AND EVERYONE ELSE NOT WHITE.

I hope someone outs who this NFL 'owner' is.

What if all these millionaire ball players just stop playing and entertaining white folks and do something to protect the black people living in this joint. Form some kind of Big Black Man Military of some sort. Make them either leave us all alone, or kill us all out of fear. Some kind of way, we need to find PEACE from the BEAST!!!!!

They all should pool their money and talk to investors to start their own league. Maybe the first international league, their own cable and/or television/internet stations.

We don't need any more "entertainers" until someone learns how to entertain, other than handsome Bruno Mars. We've been hopping and dancing ever since the boats landed. We need to learn how to survive in the woods and hills when the SHTF with these creeps. I'm not going to be worth two damns if I have to live eating bugs, the dog and the fuckin' cat; no bathtub, no running water, no soap, washing my butt in some lake, river or rain puddle; if I survive the on-coming fire.

It's Saturday, and Hitler's in all kinds of trouble dissing a "beautiful" white woman and mentioning the word "pussy." When I was small a "pussy" was a kitty cat; I, for the life of me, don't know who transformed the word into a vagina. You have slang words for African Americans, what's wrong with slang for vaginas?? Do they feel like kitty cats? I only owned dogs when I was young.

I'll be so happy when every day I no longer have to see these two on CNN and MSNBC. Hitler, whatchagonnado when someone comes out with all your shenanigans at Studio 54?? Did you ever go to the Rubber Room where they had to hose all the sperm away at the end of the night after the ORGIES??

White men, there are no men in the entire world such as YOU!!!!!!

It's a shame everyone got all up in Mr. Colin Kaepernick's business because he felt that HE could no longer stand for the song that approximately 3 people can truly sing, and 2 are dead, because of the mistreatment of BLACK MEN. That was truly HIS BUSINESS.

People should be more concerned about Mr. Orange Grab-A-Pussy and the folks that took Haiti's billions named Clinton, so that they had nothing but tents to live in since that earthquake and Hurricane Matthew came and blew the tents away and took away over 100 BLACK lives, again. These fuckers are running for PRESIDENT; rulers over OUR LIVES, that still HAVE LIVES.

I'll need some damn help on cookin' and eatin' bugs (with no pots and pans) while living in some damn woods with deer and the antelope playin; no water, no bathtub, no washing machine/dryer; no clean dishes; germs, spiders and disease everywhere; no clean anything when these bastards start WW III with Russia/Aleppo, Syria, or only God knows who else.

That's more important than ANYONE warbling the Star Spangled Banner. What we gonna do when the fuckin' BOMBS BURST THROUGH THE AIR over here? Not only will our hair be straightened, but our brains will go too, as a two for one.

There's something majorly WRONG WITH THESE EDOMITES/TROGLODYTES/ALBINOS/CAVE DWELLERS/KISSERS OF THE DOGS. Big time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
