first, he wanted to shake you down...now...RRSOTD Weekend Jam!

OMG!  Abbott!!!   I was just reading about his sister last week!!!  You know...he just quietly slipped away...a little bit after the height of this hit song.  Well..to me anyways.  Cuz all of a sudden.  You didn't hear from him as much.  Then he faded away.  I often wondered was it because of the nature of show business.  I think he was a professor.  It felt like he left the music business.  But he didn't leave.  He transited.     Wow!  How we assume.  But as Im writing,  my memory comes back to me about him.  Abbot was the guy that Freda Payne married!  I know some of you all are young and may not remember Freda Payne but she was a popular African American beauty from Detriot who could sing back in the 70s-my era!  Bring the Boys Home is one of her signature songs-Band of Gold another.  Now I remember him!  OMG!!!  What memories.  When Shake you down came out  I guess we all had forgotten he was once with Freda-many of us fans didn't care.  He was fineeeeeee!!!  Plus he was so mesmerizing when he performed and you didn't wanna take your eyes off him.  But!  I still wonder to this day why he didn't blow up like other artists did with the same musical charisma/talent.  And...Abbott plays piano like El Debarge. So that beautiful image right there is one reason why he shoulda blew up.  Women like that...seeing a handsome man playing the piano and singing love song.  Yet it seems by his absence or invisibility he prefers staying in the background or has a bigger fan base outside of America.  Or maybe he's satisfied doing what he's doing and never stopped.  And Im the one who hasn't caught with him,  But  I haven't heard from him in years.....  This was a treat!!!   I remember last seeing him on Soul Train....man!  It was a younger more innocent America trying to make it right in the 70s.  Less than 10 years after the Civil Rights Movement.  Taking me back again my brotha!   Thanks so much for this!    But!

I remember him too, Koco; Freda too. Wikipedia says his parents come from Venezuela and Antigua, which helps make him so I handsome guess. Folks don't like that kind of music anymore that's probably why he's slipped to the side. Our singers and music are gone. He's 64; doesn't say he died anywhere.  I liked listening to that song though.  Thank God for YouTube and RadioRaheem.

Thanks RadioRaheem!!
