Peace,

I apologize that I did not remember to ask you all to participate in the fasting we had this past weekend. I asked those I know to fast for three days and the weekend had a magnetic energy that was like magic. We set up an energy which drew up people I had not seen in many years. The whole group of us were blessed to find a unity in a righteous activty together. I was glad to see that a brother who fasted for the first time in his life (Chuckii Booker), felt so good that he was able to fast an extra day.

Next month we will fast again. I will strive to remember you all and I hope that you will join us.

Thank you for allowing me to speak.

Please accept my apology for my late reply.

A fast in only what passes 72 hours. Anything under 72 hours is not considered a fast in real terms. So, once a month, those who practice one or more meals a day, fast for three days. We drink only water after sunset. We can have coffee, but please do not fill the cup with cream, milk and sugar and then pour a little coffee on top of that. Smile One may drink a form of tea as well. This is done over the weekend, because most people work during the week.

Please refrain from driving during fasting, as you may kill yourself, from being light headed. Prayer is also good for you during a fast, as it will cause you to call on whatever you believe in to make it through.

I wish you the best of fortune on your fasting. I will strive to post a reminder.

Thank you.
I read the entire Book One of How to eat to live yesterday. This time I also took exensive notes ''quotes'' from the entire book, which I put in the form of a Word document.

After eating that ''mental food'' my face glows with a better light than the day before.

I will post my notes here later. I am currently writing from my phone.

Thank you.

As promised:

How to eat to live Book One
How To Eat To Live Notes

· Do not eat Peas, collard greens, turnip greens, sweet potatoes, and white potatoes.

· Page 5
· He could take one of our small babies and start him off eating the dry small navy bean soup, and make that child live 240 years.

· Use vegetable oil, corn oil, pure butter, olive oil

· Eat fruit pies with brown sugar & wheat crust

· If possible, do not eat any cooked fruit

· Noah & Methuselah ate one meal three days or twice a week.

· At one meal per day we would live over 100 years. At one meal every two days would lengthen our lives that much longer

· Fast once a month for three days or four days or whatever time you are able to fast without harming yourself

· Within one week we can learn to eat once a day or every other day. Our stomachs are just the way we train them to

· Eating properly gives the body a chance to rest and absorb the food properly and distribute it where the body is calling for it

· Resting the stomach 24 hours allows the stomach to destroy the poisons in the food before they can do us any harm

· Milk and bread will keep us alive indefinitely, and it is the best and most easily digested food. And if you eat once a day, you should fast every month for two or three days. By doing that, there will be no poison left in the body at the end of one year to make you sick even one hour.

· Do not eat spaghetti and macaroni at every meal. If you are over weight, do not eat it at any meal, and if you want to live a long time, do not eat it at any meal. Foods such as spaghetti and macaroni are processed, not cooked thoroughly, and are hard to digest.

· There are some people who claim that they do not receive beneficial results, as they should. This is due to the wrong mental food that they are eating, which has an effect on their digestive system. To get good results from eating the proper foods, we must have good thoughts.

· Not only does it give us good health, but it gives us a better way of thinking, as food and our mental power work in the same way. Whatever affects one, affects the other.

· If you want to enjoy good health, eat only once a day and nothing between meals if you are not sick. There is an allowance made for the sick ones who, sometimes, are not able to eat enough at one meal to take them over to the next meal, or who's bodies are weak and must be built up for the one meal a day. In this case, they eat two meals a day, but never three.

· We can live a long, great and healthy life just by drinking good, wholesome milk and eating good whole wheat bread if the bread is cooked correctly

· The whole wheat kernel should be ground very fine. When you are ready to make bread, add water and yeast to it and set it aside to sour. This will put it in a better digestive state to be cooked properly for your stomach to digest. Cook it slowly, after it has risen a couple of times in the mold; this must be done thoroughly so that all of the risen cake or dough is thoroughly cooked through and through under the heat of the oven. After it is cooked, do not eat it until it has set a day or two; even three days is not too long to wait for it. It is never stale because of age if kept in the right place. Never eat freshly cooked bread of any kind, as it is difficult for the stomach to digest. The same applies to beans and whatever you eat, cook them thoroughly. But, do not cook them in such a way as to destroy the vitamins or proteins that are in them to strengthen and build your bodies.

· Diabetes: Cut out that sugar; do not use any at all. Use honey. But do not use the whole bottle at one time. If you have too much sugar in your blood, be careful not to eat any sugar of any kind until you get it out.

· Drink plenty of milk and eat butter instead of so much of this artificial butter made of vegetable fat, and you will have better health.

· He said if we would start our infants eating one meal a day, as soon as they are able to partake of solid foods, it would enable them to live to an age of 240 years.
· I then asked Him, "How about eating once every 48 hours?" He said to me, "You would only be ill only one day out of four or five years." I asked Him what was the cure for that one day of illness?" He said, "Fast three days and you will all right". I asked Him "What about eating one meal every three days?" He said you will never be sick if you eat once every 72 hours. This is about two meals every six days, which would extend our lives to a span of 1000 years - for there is no poison from the previous meal three days ago which has enough power to do you any harm. The fast destroys the accumulation of food poison. The body is made up of water, chemicals, stone, metals, vegetation and air. All that is in the earth, in some form, is in our bodies, and you have no birth record of the earth. Although there is a record, you probably do not have it.
· What comes out of it, such as life, cannot live as long as the earth itself. But it can be made to live a very long time if carefully nursed, according to its nature, as you see and scientists teach you the long life of the California Redwood tree (sequoia sempervirens). There is mentioned in the Bible of Allah (God) a saying that His people's life will be as the tree. There is an oak in Arabia - under which they claim Abraham met God - that is still alive today. Allah never intended that righteous lives should be cut short of 100 years on this earth.

· I began with eating one meal a day and forced my family to do the same for several years.

· Since returning from prison, it has been hard for me to adjust my eating habits. For many days in prison, we had to eat two or three times a day in order to make up for one meal a day through trying to avoid eating the divinely-prohibited flesh of the swine. This caused me the others illness after we had cleansed our stomachs of bad food and had begun to eat at the proper time.

· I never would have suffered today from bronchial asthma if I had not disobeyed the law of the right foods to eat.

· The earth is full of food; but good health cannot enter our bodies until we have the proper food in the body and the proper food for thought. If we do not have the proper food for our way of thinking, we still cannot enjoy peace, good health, joy and gladness of heart. We can eat the best food, we can take fasts for nine days or for 20 or 30 days if we want to; and we will still suffer if we do not feed the brain with the right food.

· But children should not be forced to fast or eat one meal a day or once every other day. Children and babies should eat at least twice a day.

· Three meals a day are needed by a savage beast but not by a human being. No human being should eat more than one meal a day.

· Mothers should feed their babies from their breast milk if the possibly can, as this is best. When you are able to start feeding them on solid food, give them weak bean soup not the highly seasoned, strong soup that you eat. You can also start them out with orange juice and mashed apples. This is done whenever you think the baby is able - after he is about three months old.

· This depends on the health of the baby and its age. Plenty of good milk and good, thoroughly cooked bread are good for you and the baby.

· I tried eating once every two day with nothing in between but coffee. I did not try to pour all of the cream and sugar out of the cream and sugar bowls into the coffee. I sweetened and creamed it as I had done when I was eating three meals a day, because we can live on cream and sugar for a long time. But it is not good that we do this through our coffee, for our health's sake.

· ..., we think it is a mistake to contemplate living 100years; not to think of 1000 years. We think it is impossible. But it is no more impossible for us today to live 800 or 900 years, than it was for Methuselah, who lived 969 years (each one carrying 12 months like the ones we have today).

· I have said to eat no peas. At that time, I did no think about what we call the sweet pea, which grow into pods. The can be eaten...

· If we could eat one meal a week, we could live as long as Methuselah.

· Do not make a habit of eating aged cheese. Eat cream cheese as much as possible, as it is better for your digestive system.

· Stay away from eating all meats and canned vegetables that are canned in metal cans as much as possible. Sometimes we are forced to eat them because we do not have any other. Do not eat canned beans, if you can buy fresh ones. Do not eat any canned goods, if you can find fresh food from the market.

· We are by nature vegetable and fruit eating people.
Chapter 2: (Al-Baqarah - The Cow)
67. And when Moses said to his people: Surely Allah commands you to sacrifice a cow. They said: Dost thou ridicule us? He said: I seek refuge with Allah from being one of the ignorant.

68. They said: Call on thy Lord for our sake to make it plain to us what she is. (Moses) said: He says, Surely she is a cow neither advanced in age nor too young, of middle age between these (two); so do what you are commanded.

69. They said: Call on thy Lord for our sake to make it clear to us what her colour is. (Moses) said: He says, she is a yellow cow; her colour is intensely yellow delighting the beholders.

70. They said: Call on thy Lord for our sake to make it clear to us what she is, for surely to us the cows are all alike, and if Allah please we shall surely be guided aright.

71. (Moses) said: He says: She is a cow not made submissive to plough the land, nor does she water the tilth, sound, without a blemish in her. They said: Now thou hast brought the truth. So they slaughtered her, though they had not the mind to do (it).

What (you may ask) does a scripture dealing with the sacrifice of an animal have to do with fasting?

You may consider the animal to be your lowerself; animal nature.

Thank you.
Thanks for the read One. I have been reading about fasting both MODERN and ANCIENT and it all begins with the MENTAL (WITHSTANDING TEMPTATION and MAINTAINING A STRICT DIETARY MATTER) ABILITIES.

I agree MILK can and does give the best LIQUID and SOLID nutrition in ONE GLASS or CUP but our people are sometimes LACTOSE intolerant or MILK starts to lose APPEAL when we get past PUBERTY to just MAINTAINING until that DESIGNATED DAY.

Even the COW knows when to QUIT MILK and eat SOLID FOODS especially GRASS.

Any IDEA about the EFFECTS of PASTEURIZED MILK and LIFE LONGEVITY?

ALSO with WHEAT I dont know, I think where it is GROWN and MADE is a MAJOR FACTOR in whether it will do any GOOD for the BODY for LONGEVITY. I am saying the FURTHER AWAY it is from YOU the LESS GOOD it will be FOR YOU....(MY SUPERSTITUOUS OUTLOOK)

But it still stays with the first requirement which is MENTAL.

Thanks.
Thank you.

I personally have practiced "vegan" diets. However, I returned to the dietary law of the Honorable Eiljah Muhammad. I have success when I stay within the parameters of what he prescribed for us. I do no have the same success otherwise. He prescribed good whole TB free milk, and good whole wheat bread. He prescribed the favorite food of the Prophets (swt) which is the small Navy bean. I have practiced this dietary law since 1990 and I still look the same age.

Thank you.

As Salaamualaikum,

Sigh.. I really do not wish to come off vain/self stroking... or god forbid on this board if you say ANYTHING positive about the benefits of your religion with the hopes of sharing it with others, it will be taken as proselytizing....

At any rate...

Many people comment about my physical features... many people are shocked to find out how old I am.... Whenever any one meets me for the first time they assume I'm very young... When I was pregnant with my first child, I had older people comment on how it was a shame for "babies" to be having "babies"... lol they thought I was a teenager... (and of course unmarried!)... The women I meet in dance class always ask me what school I go to, because I may be interested in meeting their daughters/sons... or other young women ask if we can hang out...

I had a lovely woman at class ask me what school I went to.... I told her my school days were long past.... she looked perplexed... I didn't have the heart to tell her how oooooooooold I really am...

I will admit though in my family, I come from a line of women that look young.. though they look young for a longer period of time.... their diet DOES catch up with them... just a little longer than most....

So this plays a part in addition to my diet in my youthful appearance....

I too tried to go vegan... but I did not do it correctly... although I must say, I am lactose intolerant... and I have unresolved issues regarding milk (WHERE'S AUDIOGUY??), Just tonight I am trying for the first time this organic lactose free milk and will be drinking a half cup a day and testing it on my system to see how it works...

because I know some of the calcium in milk is binding, and blocks certain nutrients... as my diet consists heavily of fruit (especially now .. I LOVE SUMMER!)
Tonight I had cherries/blueberry/blackberry/raspberry salad... the sweetness of natural blueberries is delicious! It's like the "sugar" in the salad... when I take a spoonful of blueberries with black and raspberry it enhances their flavor... The cherries are naturally sweet too... I love eating with no additive seasoning... the sweet, tart, salty etc. taste of natural food is lost on us... (side note store bought black berries are terrible! ugh!... I remember eating blackberries from the wild, as a young girl and remembering how sweet they were!)..

Ooooh that reminds me... ahhhh.. I remember pulling honeysuckle from the vines and slurping the sweet liquid and just inhaling deeply their sweet scent...

hmmm... I remember experiencing the simplistic beauty of creation... yes...

sorry to get off topic.... but you made mention of milk... and going back to the diet and I just wanted to comment that I too am attempting the same...
I wish you the best of success. I have learned that "lactose intolerance" does not happen at one meal every two days. The Messenger once said it takes 75 years to learn how to live. I always wanted to learn it in my youth. I woke and practiced Martial Arts this morning and I went about in our community inspiring Black men to be upright. You too have that effect on people. You are a beacon light, and you must learn to attract the people completely up from the grave with your great beauty (nature).

Again, the best of success to you. I know you are practicing your Deen. You are one of the best among us.

Thank you.

I'm sorry... I hear what you're saying... but.. I just drank the milk... I didn't take but four sips... erm... I do not wish to say anything negative... but my body didn't like it ... and what I just went through just plain HURT really bad... sad I can't take my body through that again... sck

Perhaps I will have to substitute cheese for the milk...

Hmmm... Thank you....

even when I'm frustrated? Red Face

Big Grin
I attend the opening of a new Masjid dedication for Jumah today. I saw an elderly lady of about 80 years old. Her face was bright and beautiful, and I told her so. She was wearing baby blue and her dress was the form that the old MGT & GCC once wore under the guidance of the Messenger. Not one hair was showing. Another sister remarked that I too was glowing with divine light. The elderly sister blushed that I commented on how she reminded me of the old followers of the Messenger.

... it turns out that she is one. Smile

Chapter 2: (Al-Baqarah - The Cow)

183. O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may guard against evil.

184. For a certain number of days. But whoever among you is sick or on a journey, (he shall fast) a (like) number of other days. And those who find it extremely hard may effect redemption by feeding a poor man. So whoever does good spontaneously, it is better for him; and that you fast is better for you if you know.

I wish you that are fasing success.

Thank you.

Hazards of Fasting
If fasting is overused, it may create depletion and weakness, lower resistance, and allow diseases to begin. Certain people are not good candidates for fasting or cleansing. Others may enjoy fasting so much that they overindulge in it and take it beyond the limits of normal elimination, resulting in protein and other nutritional deficits, reduced immunity, and loss of energy. While fasting allows the organs, tissues, and cells to rest, clean house, and handle excesses, the body needs the nourishment provided by food to function after it has used its stores.

Many people of the world are involuntary fasters, while those of the Western nations are more likely to be feasters. In Third World countries, many starvation deaths result from the disease of protein deficiency, termed kwashiorkor, and protein-calorie malnutrition, known as marasmus. What happens to these people is what happens with chronic fasting"”loss of muscle mass, weight, and energy, and finally swelling and death.

I found this interesting because the diet given to us by the Messenger (if properly followed) does not result in this phenom. Also, as I read further, I saw that the good Dr. calls drinking juices for the term of the fast "fasting", when it really is not. The digestive system requires rest. The period which one gives to rest the digestive system is called a "fast". By drinking juices throughout the process, the digestive system is constantly working. It is the resting of the digestive system which allows the acids in the stomach to break down the toxins in one's systems, in conjunction with resting the system; this produces good health. The fast should not be weight oriented. It is good that we have been able to master this skill, while our slave-master's child are slaves to their appetites. They were not made to live long lives and delight in shortening our lives with their contrary way of existence.

Thank you for the article, as there is much information in it that we can learn from. The best information I have found is in the book "How to eat to live".

Benefits of Fasting

Dr. Cinque's Facts about Fasting

Definition: "Fasting is the complete abstinence from all substances except pure water, in an environment of total rest."

These are some of the benefits of fasting, according to Dr. Ralph Cinque, who has experience with full-time therapeutic fasting supervision since 1976.
For more in-depth information about fasting, see the recommended reading list.

Health Benefits of Fasting
1. Fasting initiates rapid weight loss with little or no hunger. Most people are surprised at how little desire for food they have while fasting.

2. Fasting promotes detoxification. As the body breaks down its fat reserves, it mobilizes and eliminates stored toxins.

3. Fasting gives the digestive system a much-needed rest. After fasting, both digestion and elimination are invigorated.

4. Fasting promotes the resolution of inflammatory processes, such as in rheumatoid arthritis.

5. Fasting quiets allergic reactions, including asthma and hay fever.

6. Fasting promotes the drying up of abnormal fluid accumulations, such as edema in the ankles and legs and swelling in the abdomen.

7. Fasting corrects high blood pressure without drugs. Fasting will normalize blood pressure in the vast majority of cases, the blood pressure will remain low after the fast, if the person follows a health-supporting diet and lifestyle.

8. Fasting makes it easy to overcome bad habits and addictions. Many people have overcome tobacco and alcohol addictions by fasting, and even drug addictions. Fasting rapidly dissipates the craving for nicotine, alcohol, caffeine and other drugs.

9. Fasting clears the skin and whitens the eyes. It is common to see skin eruptions clear while fasting, and the whites of the eyes never look so clear and bright as they do after fasting.

10. Fasting restores taste appreciation for wholesome natural foods. People say that their taste buds come alive after fasting and that food never tasted so good.

11. Fasting is the perfect gateway to a healthful diet and lifestyle. Going on a fast gives you the motivation and enthusiasm to make a fresh start.

Note: Despite the name, juice fasting is not classified as fasting proper. Juice fasting is better described as juice diet, since it is concentrated nutrition rather than abstinence from nutrition. Juice fasting is also extremely beneficial, but can not be compared to water fasting. I also supervise juice fasting / juice diets at my health retreat. For example juice diets are often used just before and after therapeutic (water) fasts. And juice diets can be used when water fasting is not possible for certain patients.

Better, One?

girl
This past weekend I asked forum members who are able to fast. In conjunction with this, I also asked those whom I know in my area to fast. The beginning was very rough for them. But by the end, there was a comlete change in their demeanor.

Could you who fasted please tell us how you feel?

Thank you.
