Dr. Dre Donates $70 Million to USC

Dr Dre Donates $70 Million to USC

That’s not a typo. Rapper Dr. Dre donated $70 million to USC to train “and inspire a new generation of innovators.” Music industry executive Jimmy Iovine also pitched in a couple hundred million.

Both men donated to a program entitled the “USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.” The purpose of the program “is to shape the future by nurturing the talents, passions, leadership and risk-taking of uniquely qualified students who challenge conventional views of art and industry,” according to USC.

The academy will begin enrolling 25 students to its first class in the fall of 2014. The program seeks students who have an interest in marketing, business entrepreneurship, computer science and engineering, audio and visual design and the arts.

Dre, 48, is among the wealthy elite who donate millions of dollars to offset their income taxes. Dre’s estimated net worth is $350 million. He earned most of his wealth from sales of the wildly popular Beats by Dre headphones. Dre, born Andre Romelle, is best known as a hip hop producer whose classics include 1992″s The Chronic.

Original Post

Why couldn't he donate that MONEY or at least some of it to the black communities throughout the nation?  What he just done was like pouring sand on the beach.  That's why they call USC...University of Spoiled Children.  Surely this brotha could have found some organization or agency in the black community that could have USED some of that money!  Come on.  This is sooooooooo pitiful.  But!

He could have given each of us one mil and we could have separated ourselves from EVERYTHING WHITE for the rest of our lives and still had some change left over.  No more looking at no lipped, no color, stodgy faced, consumed with all things hatred, terrorists.  Just think, we'd be on our way to SOMEWHERE with peace and quiet and love for each other forever and ever ahhhhhhmen!!!!!

Think of the afrikan centered schools that could use a portion of that money. Think of a black neighborhood that could foster a number of businesses on a block in any blackside of town, such as those in l.a. where dre. is from. I've been told of the famed crenshaw ave. that was a 'black strip' in terms of businesses and residence has been 'lightened' up.

Think of what that money can do to maintain black business there.

$70,000,000 dollars.

...Can only imagine.

That's what I'm thinking as well, or at least building the actual facility in a predominately Black community.  Many people don't get that the type(s) of actual buildings that anchor a community dictates who will actually live in and nurture that community.  It makes me think of a Black "teacher" that I used to know who went on and on about how they shouldn't build any of the new schools in a Black neighborhood, and how if they did, she would be afraid for her children to attend. Now, this was a teacher, who, in order to become a teacher, had to have a college education, and she was Black.  I was amazed at her blatant ignorance.  My belief was that they should build new schools in Black communities because it would anchor that community and be a source of pride and motivation for all the members of that community.   That, building a state-of-the arts school in the predominately Black community would attract families, working families, people/families that would put down roots around that school, and that would attract business(es) and business(es) would create jobs, and jobs would create wealth right there in that community.

But, the more brainwashing propaganda they put out there the destroy Black people and the Black community, the more of us it is that gets brainwashed by it.

“Why don't all you people bitching about it go make some money and donate it where you would like it to go.”

Excellent point! Dre has the right to donate his money to any institution or cause that he wants to. I’m sure he has personal reasons for donating his money to USC. Personally, I probably would not have done it but I respect his right to do so. I don’t recall any white philanthropists being railed at by other whites because they donated to a black institution or cause. Yet bitter Negroes spew their vitriol and incoherence against blacks who make the same personal decisions with their money. How ironic….Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Denzel and Pauletta receive

"I'm very proud to be black, but black is not all I am. That's my cultural, historical background -- my genetic makeup. But it's not all of who I am, nor is it the basis from which I answer every question."— Denzel Washington

It may be argued whether Academy Award winning actor Denzel Washington is the best in Hollywood. There is, however, no argument or question that, at least in my humble opinion, Denzel Washington is the most gifted blackactor on this planet. He is also an equally successful film producer and director.

Of late, however, Washington has become something of a top tier philanthropist as well. According to Blacklikemoi.com, Washington has just increased his fan base by several orders of magnitude after donating $1 million to Save Africa’s Children, a non-profit dedicated to helping children – especially orphans – impacted by HIV/AIDS throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Atlanta Black Star newspaper reports that Save Africa’s Children was founded in Los Angeles in 2001 by Bishop Charles E. Blake. Blake says that because of Washington's largesse, Save can now expand its mission from that of a mere caretaker of afflicted children to support of active research into eradication of AIDS and poverty throughout the continent and Haiti.

Washington’s contribution allows the program to also broaden its feeding programs, schools and daycare centers.

Officially, as Save Africa’s Children’s website indicates, its mission is to “provide direct support and care for orphans and vulnerable children affected by AIDS, poverty and war throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and Caribbean.”

Save is not alone in its quest. It partners with churches, individuals, grassroots organizations and government and corporate sectors – both in Africa, Europe and the US. Its ultimate goal is to build and maintain a “diverse and dynamic movement” that will help restore the future for as many African children as possible.

Washington is not new to the philanthropy game. He has worked with and supported Project Angel Food, the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation, according to businesswire.com.

However, Blacklikemoi.com cites what it says Washington considers his favorite charity. He and Pauletta, his wife of 30 years, fund and run their own scholarship program. It's called the Pauletta and Denzel Washington Family Gifted Scholars Program In Neuroscience. That's right, neuroscience. This program provides money to students who wish to become brain surgeons or other neuroscience professionals.

According to Save's website, other celebrity donors and supporters include, but are by no means limited to: Natalie ColeKanye WestRay Romano, Louis Gossett, Jr., Courtney B. Vance and Angela Bassett.

Opinion

Although HIV/AIDS has been brought under some control throughout Africa, it remains the number one killer in many Sub-Saharan nations.

And although the costs of the relatively new and effective retrovirus “cocktails” have diminished significantly over the years, these treatments are still beyond the reach of most of those afflicted with HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. A full 25 percent of the population of South Africa still remains afflicted by this scourge.

As Washington and many others realize, the most tragic victims of this disease are children – those who are born with it or orphaned by it.

Save Africa's Children and the Washingtons are to be commended for fighting this good fight, and for highlighting this issue.

Please help if you can.

That's a looooong way from $1Million.

I posted this because it is RARE AS HELL that you actually see rich Black people doing ANYTHING to specifically help Black people.  When they actually Do, that information needs to be spread across Black social media, considering that this Positive information of a wealthy/rich Black person actually doing something to help Black people in need will not be seen on mainstream media t.v./news/etc.

That's why I cannot for the LIFE of me RESPECT any of these brothas.  Just can't.  They are FAKE, PHONY rich black men who got what they got based on the blood. sweat and death of blackfolks before them.  The above men USED and abused the black community to get wealthy and then turned their backs as if they were born with silver spoons in their mouth-but we know DRUGS paved the way for them.

I am NOT impressed with either diddy or Z.  And Z influence on BeyBey has her gaping her legs when she doesn't even have to cuz she is NOT a prostitute but does cuz her man still has that pimp mentality [and sees her as a "whore"] along with diddy[and his gang of women].  I don't UNDERSTAND what these brothas must be thinking when they REFUSE to dig in their pockets for their culture.  Now?  They will SPEND $2000 on ONE bottle of champagyne but won't give that money in a scholarship to encourage education for youth.  But they are not ALONE.  Jordan hasn't done a damn thang...just like a few other hoodrat celebrities.  Pitiful.  But!

That's exactly how I feel, which is why Black people shouldn't buy their music, their products or anything they promote.

The would be NO FREAKING WHERE without Black people and how it was Black people, African Americans who FIRST built them up in the first place. So screw Black people like that.

BLACK PEOPLE ARE THE ONLY RACE OF PEOPLE ON THE PLANET TO PAY PEOPLE TO DIS THE HELL OUT OF THEM.

One day, my sista, mark my words....these so-called black celebrities are gonna REGRET not doing ALL they could for their black community.  They are gonna be CALLED out and won't have a thang to say except "i'm sorry." And it gonna be tooooooooooooo late and will be THEIR fault cuz they had the ability to do HUGE, ENORMOUS effective changes that would have made a positive difference...but CHOOSE not to.  That day is acoming.  Soon, But!

I remember many, many years ago watching some show on tv/pbs/whatever, and not really paying any attention to it [to lazy to find the remote], but then I heard the guest say, blah, blah, blah, "nothing more than a vulgar display of wealth", and I thought to myself, "how can wealth be vulgar"? "what the could 'a vulgar display of wealth' possibly mean"?  Some years later I can remember hearing the phrase, "obscene wealth" or "obscene display of wealth".  Meanwhile as time passed, I just dismissed the statements as maybe resentful 'rhetoric' of someone that may be bitter because they were not wealthy.  But, then, [years later again] I began to watch a PBS documentary of "The Seven Wonders of the World" that was on, and I said to myself, "Wow, maybe I will watch because I've always wanted to see what was so special about the "Taj Mahal", how it came to be thought of as one of the "seven wonders of the world" in the first place.

But, to my grave disappointment, I learn that first, that it was really only a mausoleum.

Then I learned that "Shah Jahan had his minions "cut off the hands of the Taj Mahal's architect and his workers after the structure was completed, ensuring they would never build another of its kind", and that it took 20,000 men over 22 years to build it, that it was built with many 'precious stones', and the cost to build it would be equivalent to a billion dollars today.  All the while, there was war and famine and poverty and destitution all over India.  Then, after watching this documentary and listening to the 'tidbits' mentioned about the social conditions of India's 'pheasant' population(s), then I fully understood what "vulgar display of wealth" and "obscene wealth/riches" really meant.

This is what we have with America's wealthy and rich African Americans.

This is what we have with the vast majority of the wealthy and the rich throughout the entire Black Race globally.

Wealthy and rich African Americans [and Blacks throughout the entire diaspora] vulgarly display their wealth and riches as poverty, need, even famine, and the struggle of Black people [the very people who's patronage, purchases, and support built them up in the first place in the case of African Americans] are all around them, with as much concern as Shah Jahan for Taj Mahal's architect and his workers after the Taj Mahal was built or the impoverished and famined people that were all around him.

While to do or not do whatever they please with their fortune is their right, what the rich and wealthy African Americans and Black people throughout the entire Black diaspora globally have chosen to do is also amounts to no more than a morally obscene, disappointing, vulgar display of wealth.

Yep!  My sista.  India is a PERFECT example of "vulgar display of wealth."  Even today, in their caves you can see the thousands of buddha in varies sizes ALL made of GOLD!!!  And interestingly, when the poor donate their hair to the gods of India....the hair received is a billion dollar industry for India.  Indian hair?  Those people donating it don't get a THIN dime.  And now their women[who the country don't respect] is making MILLIONS being a surrogate for massa's babies.  I think the republican who is in trouble now....called  women "host."  Cuz that's HOW it is seen.

So yeah you are absolutely CORRECT.  And our so-called rich black celebrities and wealthy black business folks are doing the EXACT same thang.  Is why I think we are sooooooooooo far behind as India STILL is regardless of how many they have.  I used to feel sorry for India cuz the country and its people have been raped socially by every conqueror in the world...but!  I stopped cuz if you keep shooting yourself in the foot to prevent moving forward?  You have fallen for the bullshyte massa says about the skin color code and have doomed your own country.  And that's is why India will never ever pull itself out of the social hole it is in currently in...but!  They won't be alone cuz we are RIGHT behind them,  But!...
