Detroit Will PAY You To Take One Of These 100 Abandoned Homes

Mayor Dave Bing is trying to save Detroit by offering incentives to lure residents back to abandoned neighborhoods.

One program offers $150,000 in housing renovation money and requiring only $1,000 down to police officers who are willing to relocate to the city. Another offers college graduates $2,500 to rent and $20,000 forgivable loan to buy properties.

Potential home buyers can choose from plenty of cheap or free homes, especially in the blighted neighborhoods of Woodward Ave. and Brush Park.

Photographer Kevin Bauman has collected beautiful photos of 100 abandoned Detroit homes.

A gentleman purchase a home in Highland Park, MI for $1500, put $13,000 into the home restoration now it comes out that Highland Park didn't even own the home... SMH Imagine what Detroit is like. Mind you the city mayor is on a honeymoon in the Cayman Islands with his new wife, rapper YoYo.... SMH

Now that just sounds bad. Sounds like a poorly written sit-com  Poor Detroit, those who have had their hands all in the mix have really just played right into every racist stereotype about Black people, African Americans, or the ability of Black people to run an entire city.   SMH too.

+I have to money to do it, but the larger problem will be the post-repair crime rate in D-town.  A bankrupt city can only breed more problems

+ and the city is broken and broke.  I think this is a great opportunity for the Feds to offer good loans for bad properties and encourage people to come back to Detroit, like they did in New Orleans.  Unfortunately, until te auto industry is booming, this is the way things will be.

Yeah, without industry/jobs for people to make a living in the city of Detroit, I can see how it may still not matter to an average 'Joe', but I still think people with money should be buying up blocks of this city and sit on it until the economy changes and/or Detroit has been able to bring in industry and jobs.  Also, there is not much property value in a beautifully renovated house when it is the only descent house in the whole neighborhood, but renovated blocks at a time make a big difference.  Right now young Whites are buying up property in Detroit, taking that $150,000 that the city is offering to renovate the properties.  If I has money I would take advantage of these virtual 'give-aways' of Real Property.

Or find new ways to get ownership.  This is a great opportunity for black community leaderships to get their hands on some type of government refacement program[changing the old face of Detroit to a new one].  It is something they can create themselves and implement the policies and procedures that will HELP the people in their community to acquire home ownership.  But!  First?  Black folks gotta STOP being CROOKS long enough to help their people.  Cuz unfortunately blackfolks have a tendency to prey on their own.  We gotta de-vain this African mentality that is shown in conflict countries where the elite take advantage of the poor.  Some of us have that SAME mindset here in this country.  If we can remove ourselves from that decaying psychological condition ingrained in us by the European/Asians, we can show how we can HELP ourselves.  Hellllllllll we help everybody else.  Now it's our turn to do for ourselves.  Detriot can be the model on how.  But!

I totally agree.  African Americans with money and businesses and corporations should take advantage of this opportunity to go into Detroit, buy up damn near all of the property for pennies on the dollar, open/move their businesses, corporations, headquarters there and campaign to attract business and industry, take charge of the school district[along with the millions/trillions in education funding] . . . it is endless, the opportunity here for African Americans.  But, just watch, African Americans will totally ignore what could turn out to be a diamond in the rough, and Asians, or Whites and/or Latinos are going to do exactly what I just suggested above and make Detroit their hub of activity and prosperity, because they will have the insight to take advantage now and wait for or do the work for things to turn around.

Exactly my sista!  And so.  It's kinda hard feeling sorry.  Cuz the way I was raised...since no one ever gave my family anything...once ONE door closed...you automatically look for a window to open and then you squeeze in.  In other words, you continue to do things that will ensure some form of income...even if you don't wanna do it.  You look at the situation and say...hummmm who got good gift of gab.  Then you go to that person whether he/she is a preacher/pastor/community leader and say, hey you know how to word it....go in there and see if our community can get a plan going where there is zero interest and a grant to rebuild or raise money to rebuild.  And then you go to another person who is good at planning and building.  And then you go to another person who is good at organizing and raising cash.  And then you go to an attorney.  Get the facts right.  Then you have a town meeting.  And you ask for community suggestions and recommendations and most importantly...VOLUNTEERS.  You will be surprised at how many people want to help themselves.

But!  I don't know.  We have this NEW generation of blackfolks you can't talk to.  Many of them are violent, disrespectful and have no vision of their future outside of going to prison.  And allllllllll that is?  Is fear. And I know how hard it is to get blackfolks in Cali to help themselves and the weather being good here don't help matters [cuz so many would rather sleep on park benches instead of claiming their rights to space and zone. But that's another story.]  Detroit has to WANT IT. But maybe one of our people from the outside can come in and inspire CHANGE and get the thang going.  Maybe that's what's needed to get folks off their azzes and in the community doing it their DAMN selves.    How come no one BLACK has thought of this cuz you are absolutely correct...whitefolks are gonna come in or Asians or Latinos and the next thang you know they are gonna CLAIM Detroit as their HOME...just like you said.  What in the HELL is wrong with us?  Cuz all it seems we do is complain.  Pitiful.  But!

They do not want black people to come back to Detroit.  Wait and see how this falls. Quiet is kept, white people have scooped up MANY properties in the city to include people from Europe.

Of course they look like that now, but after being renovated, no one would ever be able to tell that they ever looked like that to begin with.  Also, considering the QUALITY of construction when it comes to homes of the era in which they were initially built, all you are looking at is cosmetics, rewiring and a new roof.  I'm telling you, African Americans are missing out on the opportunity to create an African American Mecca in America, really several across the country by not buying up African America while it is dirt-cheap.  One thing for sure is that if Black people with money do not step in and do it, White people and every other ethnic group in America is; and where is that going to leave African America, right where it has been for the past 50 years, owning Nothing in this county, owning No Real Property, having not economic Stake in America.

Actually, I find it extremely curious as to why African Americans With money have no interests in carving out a Stake of America the same as every other group in this country.

I also find it extremely baffling that African American "leaders", politicians, millionaires and billionaires and moguls are not meeting as we speak to pool their money, resources and expertise to make this happen.

Hell, if I didn't know better, I would think that African American power players, politicians, and elite were being deliberately geared away from this very prospect.

Now if we can get them to DONATE a million a piece to help our kids progress to adulthood with social and sufficiency skills toward independent thinking?  Man would we REALLY be on our way.  But!  For some reason blacks with money wanna keep the rest of the group in the barrel.  Wonder why?  I remember when I was a kid we used to save our money toward the end of the day...making money doing chores around the neighborhood....and the at 4:00 p.m. put the money together and have a party in the backyard-we did that almost EVERY Saturday.  Now that same kind of innovation could possibly lead up to owning corporations and small businesses of our own.  But then the gangs and drugs poured in and poison our community filling it with hate and destain.

So what I'm saying is we really didn't have the capital back then to do anything huge for our people but we had the IDEAS and desires to.  I'm sure kids today are feeling the same way I did but don't have avenue of inspiration to do it even though there are blacks out there who can make it happen.  Sooooooo what are we missing today in these similar dynamics?.  Are we really distrusting of each other and can't work together long enough for our children?  What happened to the collective unity that made us strong to do something profound for our people?  Cuz more than ever, we need it RIGHT now cuz presently we do have the means....but not the unity.  Why?  But!

Greed is BIG everywhere across the planet especially where cultural values keep collapsing. We see young people today who are increasingly disrespectful and violent due to this. If we can’t  hit the deep spiritual foundation and fight from there,  greedy idiot rulers  will keep on winning.   We need some form of cooperation. Drug gangs should diversify their funds and invest in legit businesses. Ordinary folks need to work together to create some businesses. Greed is the killer.
