Aight ... Who Saw 'The Speech'?

Without getting into it too much I thought he did a great job. However we'll see whether he sticks to his guns.

Personally, excluding the first 2 days, I think the President has done a great job down in New Orleans and other areas.

I was slightly lost. At first I thought it was great. Then I listened harder and realized it was effective at continuing the lies and brainwashing. First thing was he said due to criminals we weren't able to get food and water to the people (WE ARE THE UNITED STATES, AND WE COULDN'T HANDLE A FEW HUNDRED OR EVEN THOUSAND THUGS.....)

2ND is he focused on giving grants to minorities. Well, the minority in New Orleans are not black, or women. So who will benefit?

Lastly, before the speech I was watching CNN, and reporters were focusing on how Bush was on vacation and had not been notified. Well what is the job of the vice president then?????

When Bush sounds like he's about to do something, it is sure he has done something wrong.

I didn't hear him say he would veto the planned bill to set aside Davis-Bacon.

Beware of Bushes bearing gifts.

Good catch. I completely missed that.

All in all, I have to give Bush points for sounding presidential. His writer wrote a great speech. But all that means nothing, it's easy to read a speech.

I missed portions of the speech [it was homework time for my daughter, that gets priority]. But from what I did catch, I am concerned by his call to strengthen the military's role in disaster relief.

Call me paranoid but the first move in establishing a dictatorship is mobilize the military. If one can do so in plain sight, i.e., on a legitimate domistic mission, all the better.

I'd rather be real.

Bush mentioned hes going to rebuild those areas...etc.etc.

(I really didnt expect him NOT to say those things)

....But he didnt mention how hes going to pay for this.........arent we engaged in a war, the price of oil is at an all time high??

hhhmmm hes got a lot of work to do *smh*

factual is the only way to be......but one must always keep their mind open to possibilities and not think along narrow lines of thought...as they say, "you don't wanna get caught slippin".......so "real" is a relative term....hell, some people think being violent, ignorant and impoverished is "keeping it real"...so I guess that is why I'll stick to formal definitions...and not get caught up into broad interpretations........

Well, he was clear ... He will not raise taxes! I can assume that he won't roll-back the tax breaks either.

Oh, I got it. He will cut another hole in the social safety net by draining more from the social service pot.

Yeah, I had major problems with the 'who's gonna pay for this' part. His small business and homeownership initiatives are nothing new, although he made it sound as if these are proposals aimed at this disaster relief effort. Both have been successful, and is probably what has been keeping the economy afloat.

Also, I was glad (surprised as all get out, but glad) to hear the plans to tackle the issue of the poverty situation that was affecting those displaced by Katrina .... but, I wonder if he knows there's a "New Orleans" in every state in the country! Will he tackle poverty and the factors that lead to it throughout the country, or does it stop with Louisiana?

Ok this speech reminds me of that beautiful speech that President Bush gave when he went to Goree Island during his first administration. That was one of the most beautiful speeches from a white person that I have ever heard given in regards to African people. At that same speech the same black people he was addressing were turned away and only the press were allowed to be there.
Now president Bush wants to rebuild New Orleans by giving no-bid contracts to Halliburton and some other contracting companies who are run by former Texans who helped put him in the White House.
His words are beautiful and flowery, but what about his actions?
I'm pretty much fed up with the actions of the Bush administration and as far as I'm concerned if his mouth is moving, he's lying.

I saw the speech and this is the first time I have ever believed that George W. was sincere in anything that he has ever said, but as Yssy implies, and since it is not only up to George Bush alone, even if he is sincere, only time will tell if he is telling the truth, or more imporantly, if the republican power structure will not sabatage any attempt of reconstructing New Orleans and helping ALL of its displaced citizens to have homes and jobs in a working "thriving" city to return to in a way that will include New Orleans' poor, working poor, and those not owning property in New Orleans, if he is sincere.

Could this be equated to saying something like "I think the paramedics did a great job with the drowning victim - except for the first two hours". Well, those first two hours/days are the most critical ones.

It might be somewhat "paranoid", but at the same time we have essentially suspended the Bill of Rights and granted all manner of police state powers to the government through the Patriot Act - so, along with those facts - I hear ya!

LOL, Bush is an even bigger idiot that he appeared during his debates w/Kerry!
