Would any sistas be kind enough to recommend the names of any contemporary African American women writers they've found personally enriching/inspiring?

I am asking because I am interested/studying African American Women writers' literary history, thought and experiences.

I'm particularly interested in women writing (novels, poetry or magazine or filmmakers) about identity, feminism, and gender in relation to African American cultural or political Nationalism and Afrocentricity.

There are numerous male voices in the AA literary/political world and I would like to balance and enrich my reading with female perspectives and points of view. Wink

Sorry if this sounds like a repeat of Yssyss's post... but I'm keen to hear about academic and non-academic writers.

Thanks in advance. Smile

there's 3 books i would recommend
1) Don't play in the sun: One woman's jouney through the color complex by Marita Golden
2)The angry black woman's guide to life by Denene Milner
3)and the Conpiracy to destroy Black women by Michael Porter (i heard it was very political)
