The past few years have been very good for United Technologies. The contractor does billions of dollars a year in business with the federal government. CEO Gregory Hayes pulled down nearly $10 million in 2014, and over $20 million the year before. On Thursday, the company reported $7.6 billion in profits, up from $6.2 billion the year before, and $5.7 billion the year before that. In October, United Technologies even expanded its stock buyback program to $12 billion. Spending the company's money to purchase its own stock elevates the value of its share prices. United Technologies was so flush with cash that it could burn money to boost returns for its investors.

Surely this largesse would trickle down to its rank-and-file employees, right?

Not exactly.

On Wednesday, Carrier, the air conditioner manufacturing wing of United Technologies, told workers at its Indianapolis plant that it would be outsourcing their jobs to Monterrey, Mexico.

"Throughout the transition, we must remain committed to manufacturing the same high-quality products," an executive can be heard insisting in a video of the announcement.

"Yeah, fuck you!" a member of the crowd responds.

"Please quiet down," the official says. "This was an extremely difficult decision."

"Was it?!"

Watch the reaction in the video below.

The United Technologies official delivering the bad news explicitly tells workers that they are not being laid off due to any failure on the job or lack of productivity. It's just business.

American politics has been just business since the late 1970s. In that time, middle class wages have declined and the wealth of the top 1 percent has exploded. There are plenty of Americans -- Republican and Democrat alike -- who are angry about that. It isn't a white working-class problem. It's a working-class problem. The video shows men and women, black and white, receiving the bad news. It was first posted to Facebook by Carrier worker LaKeisha Austin, who is originally from Flint, Michigan. The man on stage delivering the news is white.

Over the past year, the establishment wings of both the Republican and Democratic parties have struggled to understand the outrage expressed in that video. How could people seriously consider a Democratic socialist from Vermont, or a crypto-fascist strongman for president?

The answer is pretty simple. Both Republicans and Democrats have consistently backed economic policies over the past 35 years that have systematically gutted the American middle class. For decades, Congress has listened to corporate lobbyists who told our representatives that if they could just cut this one tax rate, or just ease this one regulation, there would be a renaissance of prosperity. The renaissance has happened for the rich. Everyone else has been left behind.

"Yesterday was a really bad day for my home state of Indiana," Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) said at a hearing on Thursday, noting that 2,100 Carrier workers had been notified of their impending termination at a company that had operated in Indiana since the early 1950s. Donnelly's outrage was directed mostly at the lobbying establishment.

"These same folks said if we put in tax extenders, things like bonus depreciation, research credit, [the Export-Import] bank. I sat here and fought for Ex-Im Bank because these folks came in here and said this will help American jobs stay in America," Donnelly decried.

Donnelly and Congress secured all of those perks for U.S. corporations. United Technologies offshored thousands of jobs anyway.

6.1 billion in earnings is not enough moves to Mexico from Indiana, its about greed!

This whole thing about outsourcing jobs since the 80s....have been about GREED!!!!  Now most of our vital services are outsourced.  Many in Asia...China and India...the Philipines..etc  Most of the customer service for phone companies and big businesses from America are outsourced.  Can't call anywhere and not get a rep with a thick accent.  AOL and AT&T [phone company in Cali] were notorious for using non English speaking employees answering customer service calls.  Couldn't understand a damn word they said and then this language barrier was also a huge gap in communicating.  Most of these outsource folks read from a template.  And if your problem was outside what was on that template?  Your ass was in trouble.  Did AT &T or AOL [especially] care?  Hell no.  Not until there were massive complaints and folks  started changing providers did they [both companies] began bringing back jobs to America.  But that took at least a decade to happen.

And this should be a wake up call for us all.  Big companies [that we made RICH] in America don't get a shyte about us.  And those folks who have any type of skill or talent should take heed and eally consider investing in some type of self-sustaining small business endeavor-something that can provide a necessary need to the community.  Being local will have Americans flocking.  We need to retake our economy.  Cuz the idea of being a small business owners used to be part of the American Dream.    We must get back to that.  Cuz we now know that corporate America just don't give  a damn.  Cheap labor [slave labor] is a trillion dollar industry (all over the world) and they are NOT gonna turn their back to that.  One of the reason in my view America is collapsing bit by bit is because business leaders still have that colonial mindset.  And the big picture for them [since  coming to the new land with slaves]  has been about MONEY and POWER.  To me?  Nothing has changed.  It is a pattern.  And their bottom line.  But!

It should have been a 'wake up call' for American citizens that American tax dollars have financed the outsourcing of American jobs and American production.

Americans still are oblivious to the fact that while American corporations were awarded American tax dollars to finance sending American jobs and American production overseas, that it was simultaneously creating booming middle classes in these countries, eliminating the need for even American consumers of these products.

With the American ECONOMY being consumer driven, eliminating both the jobs to provide Americans the means to be consumers in the first place, and the production to kept America and American consumers from being dependent on other nations and other nations' economies for goods and services, is essentially eliminating the American Economy itself.

Business is systematically corrupt. Capitalist culture is anti-human. Moneyism destroyed small businesses with roadside genocide shit-food and big money shopping malls. Business moneyism-only destroys communities by gutting out economic connections between people. Business culture demands going to the lowest common denominator. If you’re Adidas and Nike is using slave labor in Malaysia to make shoes, you have to do the same or go out of biz. Capitalism depends on exploitation. A US worker is viewed the same as a slave laborer. A different as-if people mattered business vision is needed. Dick Cheney’s company, Halliburton, got bid-free contracts while he was in office and getting paid by $150,000.00 a year from Halliburton while US VP. Halliburton thereafter moved its HQ to Dubai to skip paying US taxes. Moneyism has only one allegiance: $.

Unchecked capitalism is systemically corrupt.

Removing the Systems of Checks and Balances that kept capitalism in check is what has been happening over the past few decades, along with removing/rescinding Regulations that required particular standards and protected consumers from everything from price gauging to health hazards.

Without Systems of Checks and Balances on business and Regulations on industry and products and practices, 'business culture' sinks to the lowest common denominator.

Man/humanity has not evolved enough to be left to his own devices.

Until humanity evolves to levels much greater than we are now, there will always have to be systems of "Checks and Balances" and Rules and Regulations in place to protect the masses from the tyranny of unchecked power in business as well as in government.

Unfortunately, such systems of protection are exactly what political collusion with Wall Street, Big Banks, Big Business, Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Agri and Foreign Interest has eroded away, leaving the masses wide open to abuses, exploitations and the tyrannies of an elite few.

This is a spiritual problem. It is a problem that keeps souls lost. The world is proof of this profound catastrophe. We’re all caught up in species subset webs. Few are happy, fewer Godly. It takes some courage to see the conflicted human soul at large.
The human is corrupt. When looking around at Communism, Socialism and the rest, it is obvious to see no system of government, no simple or eleabrate bureacratic regulations or the lack of them, certainly not, have prevented hi-tech international pirates and corrupt governments from manipulating laws or giving themselves pardon from laws. With power, money always goes.
When I read “The Craft of Power” by H.L. Siu, I was rocked. He points out the maxims behind terrifying powers – like governments who kill other people’s babies in foreign lands - and carefully states, “Crime is here to stay - be versed .“ It’s a species report.
The thing we have to do (IMHO, of course!) is first discern the problem and how it relates to our human community. Sure, we need laws to imprison those who cheat and steal in big business. First, we need a will to do so. Don’t wait by the phone.
The problem is that, in times forgotten, 700+ years ago, a member of the all-equal human community decided he wanted more than others. Wealth hoarding was okay only until the price everyone else had to pay was poverty, crime, wars, migrations, starvation, enslavement and death. That price is obviously too high.
We need to look more strongly at greed. As, I think you were saying, protective checks and balances can also get corrupted by Wall Street. Yep. You said, “Humanity has not evolved enough to be left to his own devices.”. We have more greed than other animals due to the collusion of intellect with primate survival emotions. That collusion made humans the master predator. However, the predator cannot stop. He predates upon its own kind to the detriment of the human race and other species. To him, “superiority” means one thing: ‘I can kill you!’ We are way out of control. This is not in the news. You can’t tie this beast down with regulations. It’s all of a part.
Humans are screw-ups who lack humility. Forget the Church or Temple. Who lives hour to hour standing tall with the All-Loving One? We’re far from that.
Greed, as soon as it becomes destructive to humankind, must be – regulated, okay. For that regulation to be followed, we need political power. For ex., Bernie said that for him to be successful, he’d need millions of people behind him putting pressure on Congress. Like you said, we can’t be left to our own devices. Few of us are conscious and, if so, for how long. What then?
Before solving the problem, we need to call it out and describe what we see.
To make regulations stick you need active citizens against greed.
Because they are going to fuck with us, because they have and will. That’s a given. Everything they do from the two-party system of divisiveness on down scatters our power and unity. And it’s working.
My feeling is, what the fuck is it? The enemy is within the human species at large. All know, great evil has come from the Euro slavers and genociders of the US. But it is everywhere. This problem. Without a movement of active citizens, nothing happens. We’re fighting the beast of blind greed. How much fun is that? But it’s true. We need to.

Exactly my sista.  This is forcing the middle class into the lower class.  And those outsource jobs are American jobs given to other countries' economy by our own corporate businessmen who care less that they are plunging America in third world status.   We're looking more and more like India.  Pretty soon we won't have toilets in our homes like them.  Watch!  But!

The sole purpose of capitalism is to eliminate national borders through trade.

The Western World, the intellectual fathers of the Modern Western World, believed that capitalism, an entrepreneurial economy is best for mankind.

It connects the world together.

The USA is the vehicle for this. Why you think America is the most diverse nation on Earth?

You think it's because it's out of goodwill? No it's about money and eliminating national borders.

Through its population, America got connections to the entire world.

Other countries, that actually give a damn about the idea of a nation and can survive on its own without outsiders,  and can help it - do not have a high heterogeneous population. They keep people out.

Or like governments who not only kill other people's babies but steal their babies and force them into slavery.  It's STILL happening.

Been too high.

Exactly.  Already we live in opposites.  Freedom on one side.  And slavery in all levels of humility on the other side.  But there is STILL a price being PAID for both.

But Bernie cannot be our savior.  He wants to give free hand outs.  And that's not gonna help our problem in this country.  Folks need JOBS.

Few of us are conscious and, if so, for how long. What then?

Sometimes being conscious is not enough.  We need to unite with the same mindset to eradicate the issue.  Easier said than done.

Before solving the problem, we need to call it out and describe what we see.
To make regulations stick you need active citizens against greed.

Advocacy.  Volunteers.  Greed watchers.  And we must implement this in our laws when we are voting.  We need overseers for these business moguels who is throwing the baby and sink out for a mere buck.  Yet this is how massa has always been.

Because they are going to fuck with us, because they have and will. That’s a given. Everything they do from the two-party system of divisiveness on down scatters our power and unity. And it’s working.

Yes it is working.  And we can't stop either.  We gotta keep going looking them right in their faces...letting them KNOW point blank....we are NOT afraid and will not ALLOW you to destroy our system.    We need to SAY this.  LOUD!!!

My feeling is, what the fuck is it? The enemy is within the human species at large. All know, great evil has come from the Euro slavers and genociders of the US. But it is everywhere. This problem. You know I've always said that MAN is the enemy of humanity.  Cuz he is the one who preys on his own people.  Just like when a man preys on a woman-she's still a human being.  Why?  I could never understand that.  And this is why we are where we as homosapians today.  Someone said that these are the last days...only the last days for the people on the short end of the massa's stick.  But!

TPP is only going to make it easier to offshore more jobs. As it is businesses are given federal tax incentives to move their businesses offshore.

I don't get why Americans are not more outraged and what is ironic we have a Democratic candidate that said TPP is "The Gold Standard of trade deals" more than 85 times in speeches and interviews until she was criticized for it and then she said she was not in favor of TPP. She was deeply involved in making the TPP deal as Secretary of State, she is lying big time. Yet Hillary will likely be the Democratic nominee who will flip again if she gets in office and do everything in her power to make TPP law.

American voters constantly vote against their best interests, its some kind of weird going on in American culture.

America wouldn't be America without free trade deals...

Point is, people like their Amazon and Walmart.

If a couple thousand people gotta get laid off so people can get 3.99 books and buy a week's worth of groceries for 300 dollars for a family of 4, then it's all good.

A consumer driven economy only cares about prices.

Hell people in the USA are so stupid they consider gas prices and stock prices economic indicators.  If gas prices are low and stock prices are high, everything is going well in the USA.

Majority of the USA is working poor, consumer minded, drones that only care about prices.

Americans don't vote against their best interests, they vote for their interests...which is to buy things at cheap prices.

Honestly, if anybody wants to live a nice happy life, they would move to Thailand or the Philippines or Indonesia and live like royalty, but people stay here in the USA for a reason.

That reason is FREEDOM.  Yeah we have a lot of social problems....but!  Compared to other old world countries?  Young America is a lure to people from all over this planet for this reason....FREEDOM.  Yea we may bitch and moan about things we don't like about it....and think we can live somewhere else in peace....but the deal is at the end of the day?  Many of us  can retreat to ours homes and use our inhouse bathroom and except in Flint...take a hot bath or shower..get some grub and chill until the NEXT DAY of protesting what we don't like about America.demonstrations.  Others do not have that LUXURY.  It's a LUXURY yall.  Apparently.  This FREEDOM that is.  But!

Free Trade deals was something that Pres Nixon created during his dealings with China but a lot of policies was blocking the way toward so called Free Trade. He was trying to get around signing treaties because they would involve the oversight of law and policy makers of each country.

Before Free Trade deals which are different from TREATIES is what  the Constitution calls for when dealing commerce between countries. Free Trade deals was a way to get around the Constitution and it took awhile to break down the policies that blocked what the wanted Free Trade to be. Then Nafta was the first real Free Trade they wanted because it allowed a broader variety of manufacturing and services to be offshored and it gave corporations their own courts and conflict resolution process that supersedes government constitutions and laws. Once that happened, since 2000 more the 70,000 manufacturing facilities and millions of jobs were offshored.

Americans don't vote against their best interests, they vote for their interests...which is to buy things at cheap prices.

Until lately I don't think Americans were thinking about cheap prices, Free Trade, Free Market stuff. They have been misled that Free Trade and Free Market policies was going to create jobs and good for the economy but we all should know those are lies. Then when the economy was not creating jobs and things went wrong they always had a scapegoat other than the truth.

I think many Americans are realizing that what they were told about Free Trade and Free Market policies are lies, they did not believe Ross Perot when he said that Free Trade was going to send millions of jobs out of the country. The media was repeating that Free Trade and Free Markets was good. Now that the results of Free and Market trading policies are failures, people are demanding non establishment politicians from both parties and because they have someone who is running regarding those issues gives them a reason to get out and vote. Income inequality was put on the map because of Occupy Wall Street, wealth and income inequality awareness is still spreading around the world.

And btw, that video is Carrier, that makes Air Conditioners. They have been earning more than 5 billion for the last 10 years or more and they have so much money they are buying back their stock with it to increase its value and creating bigger bonuses for the CEO's and managing establishment of the company and its still not enough, wow.
