Police Officers Shot in Ferguson, Mo.

FERGUSON, Mo. — Two police officers were shot here early Thursday morning as gunfire rang out in front of the police station, throwing into panic what had been a spirited — and at times tense — but largely peaceful night of protests.

Demonstrators and police officers alike hit the ground when the gunshots echoed through the crisp air. Many people ran for cover. The police, clad in riot gear, dragged their wounded fellow officers to safety. Others crouched behind cars and walls, drawing their handguns or rifles as they rapidly swiveled their heads every which way to survey their surroundings.

One officer, from the St. Louis County Police Department, was shot in the shoulder, and the other, from the suburban Webster Groves department, was shot in the face. Both were in serious condition, but their injuries were not life threatening, said Sgt. Brian Schellman, a spokesman for the St. Louis County police.

The shots, which witnesses said they believed originated from the top of a hill about 220 yards directly across from the station, came just hours after the Ferguson police chief, Thomas Jackson, announced that he would resign, a move greeted with praise from protesters. Chief Jackson had been at the center of criticism that he ran a racially biased department ever since one of his white officers fatally shot Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager seven months ago.

Two Officers Shot in Ferguson

Chief Jon Belmar of the St. Louis County Police Department said two officers were shot during a protest that began only hours after the police chief in Ferguson, Mo., resigned.

But Thursday’s shooting threatened to ratchet up tensions, as well as unravel efforts to change the way the police here do business and to heal the anger and frustration that Mr. Brown’s killing had unleashed.

In addition to Chief Jackson’s resignation, two other high-ranking Ferguson officials, the city manager and the municipal judge, left their jobs after a scathing Justice Department report last week that accused the city of racially biased and unconstitutional practices in its law enforcement. City officials had hoped that the changes would help residents see that they were prepared to start anew.

Instead, Chief Jon Belmar of the St. Louis County Police Department said that Thursday’s shooting only realized the worst fears he has had since the unrest over Mr. Brown’s killing — that it would lead to serious violence.

He said he believed the gunman targeted the officers who were lined up shoulder to shoulder in front of the Ferguson police station to keep protesters back.

“I’ve said all along that we cannot sustain this forever without problems,” Chief Belmar told reporters during a news conference in front of Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, where the wounded officers were being treated.

“I don’t know who did the shooting, to be honest with you,” he added. Chief Belmar said that based on the bullets’ trajectory and where the officers had been standing, he assumed that “these shots were directed exactly at my police officers.” He said he did not know what kind of gun had been used.

The Webster Groves officer is 32 years old and a seven-year veteran of the force, while the St. Louis County officer is 41 and has 14 years experience, the county police said.

Emotions quickly ran high after the shooting. One Ferguson officer, standing among the protesters as things calmed down, said, “This is what they wanted to happen.”

When a protester told him that no one wanted this to happen, the officer was adamant, saying that that was his opinion and that the protester could differ if he wanted.

Protesters on the scene were quick to point out that the gunfire did not come from among them, rather from a distance behind them.

Earlier in the night, the protests took on a familiar pattern that had not really been seen here since after a grand jury announced in November that it would not indict the white officer, Darren Wilson, for the fatal shooting of Mr. Brown.

It was as much a celebration of Chief Jackson’s resignation as it was a call for more action.

“Not just Jackson, we want Knowles, Ferguson has got to go!” they yelled in reference to James Knowles III, the mayor of Ferguson.

Protesters engaged in a cat-and-mouse game of sorts with the police. Dozens of them flooded into the street in front of the Police Department, blocking cars as they tried to pass. Things occasionally became tense between the protesters and motorists, some of whom refused to back away when demonstrators lined up in front of their vehicles. On several occasions, drivers inched forward, tapping the knees of protesters who dared them to hit them.

Who fired the shots? Was it a protester, a provocateur, a lunatic? Who? Before blame is assigned we must know who fired the shots.

Each time, one side would eventually give in: Either the driver would back away, or the protesters would let them through. But on other occasions, police officers wearing helmets and clutching transparent shields and batons would race into the street to clear away the demonstrators. The police made a handful of arrests.

Some of the tensest moments came when the protesters fought among themselves. Some people urged others to block cars, while others urged their fellow demonstrators to get out of the street and direct their anger at the officers in front of the police station.

There were tussles between protesters who did not recognize one another, with the fault line appearing to be those who had been demonstrating for many months versus those who were new to the movement. Some took offense to the supposedly new protesters trying to tell them what to do. At one point, it devolved into fisticuffs in the street, as the police stood by watching.

But by midnight, the situation calmed down, and the number of protesters dwindled to around 100, if not fewer. They stood on the east side of South Florissant Road, while the police held their line on the west side, in front of the station.

Then, without any warning or seeming escalation, the shots rang out.

“I heard the bullets go past my head,” said Bradley J. Rayford, a freelance photographer, who said he was standing near the officers when the shots were fired. After the first one, Mr. Rayford said, he looked up at a hill across from the police station and saw muzzle fire from that direction. He said he heard about four shots, after which he moved to the ground.

After the shots were fired on Thursday, the remaining protesters scattered, and the St. Louis County Police Department’s homicide unit was sent to investigate.

Dozens of officers from around the region also arrived to secure the area. A group of officers in tactical gear carefully walked up the hill across from the police station where Mr. Rayford and other witnesses said the shots had come from.

By 2 a.m., a handful of people remained in the lot across the department, which was encircled in yellow police tape. Investigators tried to interview people in the group. But in a sign of the chasm that remained between law enforcement and this protest movement, many of them were reluctant to talk.

Original Post

The results of this extreme racist toxic environment after Eric Holder and the DOJ investigation is complete, extreme racist results are exposed and the beginning to make real progress going forward now totally changes.

Resignations are happening ending the duties of the Ferguson sheriff, fired crooked cops, the corrupt city manager, racist city employees and many more to come that will include several Ferguson city officials and the mayor of Ferguson who thinks he's safe but won't survive this and the more than likely, disbanding of the entire Ferguson Police Department because the only way to eliminate the current racism crisis is to get rid of everyone involved with all the Jim Crow racism, corruption and start all over from scratch.

These White people are forever tainted as White racists for life the entire world now knows.

Why agitators?

Why mess this up?

Why gather among a group of peaceful protestors, act like SWAT snipers hiding yards away atop a hill and shoot 2 cops seriously wounding both?

Dammit Black people of Ferguson?…......It’s working!

You're winning the fight!

You got exactly what you worked for and wanted.

Don't you get that?

All the peaceful protestor's work; months of planning, preparation, coordination and protesting for many months worked effectively with the President and the DOJ's full support while America and the entire world watches.

Now with this unnecessary police shooting because of several black morons mixed in the peaceful crowd with very bad intentions wanting to kill police, they have reversed all the positive efforts going forward.

Another criminal investigation will be conducted that will include the President, Eric Holder and the DOJ, has to start that greatly impedes and slows to a crawl, the progress that's already happening based on Obama and Holder's previous support, efforts and ending results that favored the Black citizens of Ferguson.

Eric Holder is probably back in DC saying to himself “WTF!”

Those 2 police officers who were shot after the FPD is dissolved were going to be out of a job in Ferguson anyway but now, it greatly heightens local police activity, their more pissed off then ever and the further non trust of all Black people in Ferguson is at it's all time highest level.

And those black boneheads gave them a high platform to protest to say in reverse "I told you so!"

The protests will probably continue but it won't be the same as before and not only among the peaceful African American citizens of Ferguson with the FPD on very high alert because they are now not only White racists cops but very angry, scared and afraid racists cops.

They can more than ever, no longer tell friend from foe but now the racist White citizens of Ferguson who always supported the police but were in hiding, now have some ammunition, a very valid and really good reason to openly protest against the the Black community of Ferguson and Black protestors even more with justification because 2 White police officers were shot and seriously wounded.

This police shooting made the black/white racist divide in Ferguson even worse.

African American protestors regardless of how peaceful they are, can no longer be trusted by police to gather and protest peacefully because of the now more than ever, suspicious fear by the police regardless of how black protestors feel about them who are now still in their official capacity to protect them as they protest, are now really fearful and on the ready with all their militarized police equipment at the ready more than ever with a hair trigger to wound or kill if anything that looks or moves “black and suspicious” or seem strange thinking any of them may get shot, wounded and/or killed.

Now it’s an eye for an eye.

NOBODY in Ferguson is safe anymore.

Nobody.

Black protestors in Ferguson?

Might be a good idea to (1) stay at home allowing thing to calm down or (2) meet with Ferguson police/mayor and figure out a way.

Something to really think about.

The intentional shooting of 2 police officers trying to kill as many as they could while positive transition is happening that you wanted changes everything.

Ferguson has now officially become a real life war zone.

SMH.

Stupid!

Damn.

Chief: 'Not Blaming' Ferguson Protests But Shooter Had An 'Association' There

"I feel very confident that whoever did this was there for the wrong reason, not the right reason, and came there for whatever nefarious reason it was," Chief Jon Belmar said in a news conference. "But I do feel like there was an unfortunate association with that gathering."

A St. Louis County police officer and an officer from the suburb of Webster Groves were shot just after midnight Thursday. The officers had been helping with crowd control for protesters who gathered outside the police department after the announcement of Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson's resignation.

Witnesses told local and national news outlets that the shots came from a hilltop across the street from the protests.

Belmar said in the news conference that officers saw muzzle flashes about 125 yards away from the police line. He said that he believed the weapon used was "a pistol, a handgun," based on shell casings recovered in the area, the sound the shots made and the nature of the injuries to the two officers.

A reporter pressed Belmar on how confident he could be that the shooter or shooters "was associated with the protest rather than taking the protest as an opportunity to try to shoot a cop."

"There are indications that would lead us to believe that obviously some of the folks that were there to participate last night, in expressing their opinions, they were spread over a wider area than just confined," he said. "That did extend not only to the north and the south, but also to the west."

In his remarks, Belmar emphasized that the responsibility for the shooting lay with whoever carried out the crime and not the demonstrators as a whole.

But he repeatedly said that it was "very difficult" for police officers to distinguish between peaceful protesters and people who pose a threat, particularly when it's dark and there are large crowds to watch. Those were the conditions at the time of the shooting, Belmar said.

"I'm not blaming anybody other than the individuals that took a shot at my officers and hit them," he said. "But I am telling you that these are situations that it's very difficult for us to navigate through if you're a police officer on the street."

Belmar said it was a "miracle" that the shooting was the first incident of its kind since protests over the police shooting of unarmed black teen Michael Brown began last summer. He then invoked the fatal shooting of two New York City police officers in December.

"We were very close to having happen what happened in NYPD with Officer [Rafael] Ramos and Officer [Wenjian] Liu," he said. "We could have buried two police officers next week over this."

I've been thinking about this all morning You expressed my thoughts exactly. The locals should not protect but, if possible,  hand over this enemy of the people to the police. That’s the best that can happen now that the KKK have about been proven right and handed more ammo.

That's exactly what I  was about to post; that and the fact that we still don't know whether that mentally ill guy killed those two cops in New York, let a lone after all that has happened in Ferguson, someone waits until now to randomly shoot at cops.

African Americans better slow down, take a hard look at these cop shootings/killings before just blindly accepting what the very cops that have been Lynching/executing Black people in America are saying.

Some coincidences are just too big of a coincidence, to actually be the truth.

The cops set that up, the shooter is associated with the cops. Yeah somebody took a shot 220 yards away and looking for the shooter and if they don't find the shooter then it is confirmed that it was a set up to create sympathy for the Ferguson police and to justify their attitude toward the African American public.

Look they lied like hell during the grand jury, broke all kinds of rules, they are about to loose their piggy bank through over policing and unfairly ticketing African Americans and most of all, they have lost their moral justification to treat African Americans like shit, they are desparate to save all what they had.

Its a set up, no one is going to take a shot at the police during a protest at the police headquarters, that is too damn movie drama like, its BS.

Too awful to take in. Yes, possible but it’s an extremely improbable long shot – pun intended-  that they murdered their own from behind protester lines to make the locals look bad. Think about it. Would you do that - kill people you know to make others look bad? That’s more like a movie crime drama. Let’s see how this catastrophe unfolds.

Cops actually died? How many? Norland posted the cops were released from the hospital. The injuries must be minor, it would be interesting to know where the cops was hit.

Meant to say…intend to kill.  It’s  extremely  unlikely that white cops or KKK would  intend to kill their own from behind protester lines solely  to give locals made PR.

It was probably a KKK member or some type of white supremacist that shot at the police.

I think one was hit in face somewhere and the other the shoulder. You can hear some muffled howling by someone on the tape after the shots were fired.  Too bad Michael's unable to howl.

You know, it's funny (not really), when "whites" get shot, the shit hits the fan, the world's supposed to stop. When "blacks" get shot, "Oh, well, nothing to see here, keep moseying along"!!!!!!

. . . . if only . . . .

Eh...

I don't feel any type of way about this.

I think Ferguson has become totally fucking useless anyway.

The idea should be seeking to remove Whites from power around the country.

It should've made Black people go on the damn internet, run a google search, see who runs their county or whatever and see how many White people there are. Run their own investigation and start finding out what the police looks like and etc. Find out how many Black people there are in their county. Find out which party runs what.

It should've been something serious going on. There should've been a national fucking committee and we start going around the country getting rid of White people. Installing an all Black party and start getting ready for elections

At this point it turned into stupid ass fucking hashtags and marches about nothing. Blacklivesmatter and all that bullshit.

A couple cops got shot in the face and White people gonna turn it into a big ass story.

I say good, an eye for an eye. I don't care who did it. White or Black. It should've been Darren Wilson got shot in the face.

This protest hasn't done what it should've done because I haven't seen the media or any Black people in the mainstream media put it in the proper context and actually said what needs to happen.

Instead it's like, "Hey cops are racist and White people bad and Black people need to vote more..."

It's not about got damn cops. Just like what was going on in the 60s wasn'tabout segregation.

I have seen however, Black people on the outskirts actually state what needs to be done, but they don't have the political clout or the reach like MSNBC with their legion of coons.

But looking at the mainstream...this is what is gonna happen in Ferguson and Black people in general when shit like this happens.

The White folks are gonna leave Ferguson, that area is gonna remain poor as fuck. Black folks there gonna vote Democrat. Black votes will eventually run Ferguson and that area is gonna remain shit.

Just like what happened in Detroit, Black folks ran all the White people out of there in the 50s  and that area was ran by Blacks and it turned to shit and remained shit.  All those protest and riots, Black people got what they wanted and couldn't do shit with it.

All those Black folks that are community leaders and activists in Ferguson and gonna get paid off like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton got paid off.

The proper consciousness has not be risen out of these events. Instead Black folks got more silly. It's not about cops. It's not about police brutality. It's not about that. It's not about fear of the Black male. Or White paranoia.

And the funny thing is, Black people can't do shit about changing the narrative because it's in the hands of White media companies that are making craptons of money off of this.

White people will run the same fucking narrative over and over and over and over.

At the end of the day, when Black folks run White people out of town with this improper consciousness where everything is about this one got damn event or this one subject and all that matters is stopping this one thing, Black people can't survive. There's no plan. There's no infrastructure.

"What we gonna do?"

"Vote Democrat of course, what the hell you mean what we gonna do?"

Nobody serious with money and connections and experts has organized black folks to do serious work in the USA to prevent Apartheid States like Ferguson. All those old ass coon ass Democrat Party ass kissing motherfuckers on the CBC too busy doing nothing.

White people will gladly leave and wait and let us make asses of ourselves. They will say I told you so and take the area back.

Just like they did with Detroit.

And White people make a plan. They came to Detroit with money, connections, time tables, businesses, NGOs, all types of shit. They were ready. They got an entire plan after they get rid of Black folks.

Where is our plan, where is out committee, where is our people when we start removing White folks with protests and riots?

Well, the Negro(or Negroes) who did this were obliviously Class A fucktards. I have no idea what they thought was going to happen and what the long standing consequences would be. Now the police will run an intense and disruptive dragnet until they find the thug coon(s) who did this. Too bad, too sad......

I would put money on it that the shooter is not black... likely it is a hate filled supremacist that believes if he kill cops in such a dramatic fashion during a black protest at police headquarters , the general public will assume it was disgruntled blacks that did it. Shooting from a distance is not what most black killers do and also if a black wanted to kill a cop it would be an ambush style killing, not from 220 yards away, that is white boy shit, and it would take some practice to be accurate from that distance. It took some planning and one that is familiar with the area to find a spot to shoot from without being detected from the sound of the shot or seen. I would not be surprised if the shooter is a cop.

The profile of the shooter is a 40 something, hate filled white supremacist who want to vehemently turn public opinion on blacks in Ferguson. Hate filled white trash that collects guns and rifles and practice long distance shooting.
