I lived in a suburban neighborhood in NJ for seventeen years of my life, where most people were white (I think over 70% of the people at my school were white). If you were black, like me, you hung out with the black kids and sorta kept away from anything preppy, goth, or remotely related to rock. My group of friends was mostly concerned with making sure we were as black as we could be, living in a white town, which in high school meant being gangsta (yes, I fell for the media stereotype).

When I was eighteen, I moved to Newark with two of my friends to finally live the life we always wanted. I've been living here for two years, and it's been harder than I thought, especially when it comes to having a serious relationship. I spent my first year mingling so much that all I want now is to find a man that I can be with for at least a couple of years, but people around this are only care about getting as much ass as they can get.

Anyway, my friend met this guy about five months who actually catches my attention. He came from a small town too, like me, and moved here only to be able to go to college (I'm going next year). He has a really friendly personality and seems like a sincere person. Basically, I have a crush on the guy, and I think he's the first legitimate one that I've had since I moved here.

The thing is, he's not black. But he's not white either. He's some kind of Hispanic (I'm not sure of his specific nationality). He's got light, brownish skin and short, black hair. I think he might be from the Caribbean. Anyway, personally, I never favored black/white dating, but I never really had much of an opinion concerning black/non-white dating (unless they're Middle-Eastern or Indian--I hate that idea). I never paid much attention to the Asians or Hispanics at my school. They were always just kind of. . .there. I was doing my own thing and the only non-black people I ever gave any thought to were white people.

So, what should I do? Should I try to start something or not? If it were you would you go for someone like that? Please give me opinions.
