I saw the show. It was very interesting to me because I'm bi-racial. The question that kept comming to me about that mother was, "How do you act white? Is there a specific way that white people act?" The mother also said she thought her daughter wasn't black enough. So, of course, similar questions present themselves,"How black is black enough? How does one portray blackness?" I don't know the answer to this. I should say upfront that I am not a religion-hater. Even as an atheist (or natrualist??) I believe all religions have something wonderful to offer us. good points.. I think about this a good amount as well. I speak to black Youth a good amount and run a Computer Learning Program for 5 months for these same Youth. I try and emphasize that there are other fields available to us other than these long shot type careers such as sports\entertainment.. I go as so far to tell the students how much I make, etc so that they can understand. I think the key is that our Youth have to be patient.. They want that big paycheck without waiting..

I also have had some personal and professional experience with 'fundamentalists. I grew up in a relatively fundamentalist pentacostal home, where messages of damnation, fire and brimstone, no makeup, and sex were used as mind control. I am with you on all of these. I LOVE to shop, my mom made the mistake of giving me her credit card when I was in high school...yeah I'm still hearing about that bill.
