@Dissident: Yes Spike did do something....WRONG. He contributed to the DISRESPECT of black women in his films. If he were soooooo passionate about the black experience, he would have JOINED Greogory as contemporary to combat the negative images of black women and men ON screen as a young producer, But did he? Nawl. And may I say that there is a subliminal arrogance of self-entitlement in the young generation of blackfolks. They smear their ignorance on screen and video[by disrespecting black...

That's just a misnomer to distract the fact that black slaves were an intricate part of the middle east-men and women. I saw this movie, and it really was a pretty good movie. Of course it did not capture the totality of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade within a two hour span of time, but it did touch on some truths about the horrors, sadism, brutality, heartbreak of slavery in America. The movie also, touched on the very subject that ALL American historians try to ignore, whitewash, and propagandize out of the history of slavery, and that is the sexual rape, brutalization, and trafficking of African women for...

Rape, torture, executions, etc., etc. We complain about these "white" people day-after-day-after-day. Yet, here we are calling ourselves "Americans". Watch a couple hours of Tru-TV and ask yourselves, "Is this what I want to be?" Had slavery begun in Japan or China, would we be calling ourselves African-Japanese or African-Chinese? I saw the movie about two weeks ago and I must say, it lived up to the Quentin Tarantino brand; excessive graphic violence, luridly sadistic with individuals driven by the need to inflict extreme violence and death on their victims and his person obsession with the "N" word. This is the expected under laying bedrock of his movies (e.g., Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs, et al). The film is in two parts: the first half is a mock Western; the second is a...

Clearly there are people in academia who have read SRBJ vol 2 and possibly read or even reread vol 1. Its strangely interesting to see more and more work done in the academy that treats subjects in both vols as uncredited inspirations for inquiry. Perhaps people should again reconsider why the works of Karl Marx is considered (albeit less so today) off limits to read or discuss openly.
