Redefining Representation: The Women of the 116th Congress Photographs by ELIZABETH D. In 1917, 128 years after the first United States Congress convened, she was sworn into its 65th session. One hundred and two years later, one has become 131 — the number of women serving in both chambers of the...

Eight Stereotypes About Black Women That Need to Die

Eight Stereotypes About Black Women That Need to Die By G. Ann Wilkerson on March 30, 2012 @G_AnnWilkerson 3107 Email Share We are Angry Black women are often accused of wearing frowns or scowls and, unfortunately, many of us have perfected the mean mug. But, when was the last time someone asked us “why?” Most of the time we’re just a little frustrated, or annoyed with being overworked, underappreciated, beaten, and used. So, I’m sorry if your attempt to “holla” was rejected. I just wasn’t...

Re: Blended Families: Younger Women Dating Older Men: A Quick Reality Check

Kocolicious ·
Very interesting. Coming from an older woman I suggest to ladies in their 20s and 30s to do the work on YOURSELVES first. A lot of times young women come into relationships with older men with unresolved issues of their own and thus do not have the tools or skills to handle or understand an older gentlemen's perspective. Most times, young women come into the fold expecting to be taken care of financially by the older men because of the age difference and use that to manipulate the process.

Great points! It can not hurt them to try to play chess or checkers in the process. When I say "strategic", I mostly mean just being as thoughtful and directed about one's love life as they are about their education or career, for example. Prince Charming is probably not going to just bop you over the head and propose! Also, as a matchmaker, I fundamentally believe that anyone and everyone can find a mate and be happy. By following a few important steps in both the dating and courtship...

This story is a prank. No such festival exists. The guys jumping into the water are yogi pilgrims, often ascetic celibates. India is out of line on rapes but not insane.

So....India asking for an apology from President Obama is a prank too? Cuz if so, India is being extremely ridiculous especially when the rapes there are sooooooooo true. And only here lately have the police gotten involved, Back in the day, they would have BLAMED the women...and in many parts of India, they STILL do. So again.....for all the things to apologize for? India has to be KIDDIN' or as we ALL know is a seriously FLAWED and BACKWARDS country. But!

Koco, you probably have been chosen by unseen forces to do exactly what you are doing right now, because these kids need a person with your convictions and concern for Black children and young people. I believe that things happen for a reason, and that if key people where not in key places, certain things would never manifest. New Study Links Relaxers To Fibroids (BlackDoctor.org) -- A new study in the American Journal of Epidemiology has linked hair relaxers to uterine fibroids, as well as early puberty in young girls. Scientists followed more than 23,000 pre-menopausal Black American women from 1997 to 2009 and found that the two- to three-times higher rate of fibroids among black women may be linked to chemical exposure through scalp lesions and burns resulting from relaxers. There is so much to say about women's spiritual leadership. In this time of fragmented and toxic culture, we don't even have words adequate to describe the breadth of heritages and practices. Most people would define priestess as a woman who leads ritual. But there are a range of names and culturally-defined meanings, including shaman, medicine woman, diviner, spirit-medium, oracle, sibyl and wisewoman. Countless ethnic titles such as machi, sangoma, eem, babaylan and mae de santo provide...

I haven't read the study but the article makes some assumptions that are not necessarily the case. The article suggest that women being better educated than their male counterparts thus command a higher income. What is not discussed (which has been noted in economic circles) is that one of the ironies of the current economic crisis is that men are a better deal to fire. S o while a snapshot shows women incomes are higher, its not necessary because woman's income is increasing but rather the...
