I don't disagree with you here, but I believe it's situational. There are many white women with exactly the same mind set, justified or not. I think that aggressiveness has its place, but like most things it should be used in moderation. The only area where a women doesn't need to utilize moderation is in her positive feminine attrtibutes: Flexibility, Giving, and Integrity. A lady can never be to flexible, to giving, or have to much integrity. So long as she is getting what she needs from...

The key sentence in your response was....... "I think that aggressiveness has its place, but like most things it should be used in moderation." Im not too sure, what white women go through on a daily basis.....i can only assume. But being a black woman, i fight everyday. When you continue to fight at every turn.........you become aggressive, to maintain or achieve in life. The key for me was to learn how not to be aggressive.....when there was no need. (and i must add, not every black woman...

Well put. I can see where your comming from. What I ment about the white women with that mind set is that they can be fighting every day just like you, even if they don't need to. I know as well as anyone when your fighting every day, being a warrior can easily go from being a hobby, to being a habbit, to being a lifestyle.

Thanks, Kresge for your understanding and kind words. It was much appreciated. Fine, I see your point. But I think I'll stay with the original wording. Because, as I see it, my beliefs are an integral part of me. They reflect my life history, the lessons I've learned, and my growth process. They are the intellectual/spiritual expression of my life's journey and personal integrity. * So someone who thinks it their duty to condemn my beliefs (for no other reason than that they're different)...

Re: What's At The End of the Rainbow?
IMHO, we should be striving to become a unified, self-sufficient African American community. We should encourage and support small individuals who have the potential to be the next Donald Trump or Bill Gates. We should establish more of our own banks, improve our urban "blight", develop business and professional incubators to enable us to decrease our dependency on those who seek our demise rather than our growth. Education is certainly key to self-sufficiency and we should strive to...

Category A: Qualities women look for in men- Confidence, Self-Control, Mystery, A Sense Of Challenge. Category B: Qualities men look for in women- Flexability, Integrity, Loyalty, A Giving Nature. All of these things are good qualities, but the difference lies in the priorities. A woman will stay with a man who has all of the qualities in Category A, even if he has none of the qualities in Category B. But, if he has all of the qualities in Category B, and none of the qualities in Category A,...

We're all looking for companions. The disagreement here is how those potential companions are ranked and chosen. Why? Because we look at pictures of supermodels in g-strings? I already posted what men are looking for, but I'll sum it up: Flexability, Integrity, Loyalty, and a Giving Nature. All other considerations are subjective and ultimately unimportant. But these four criteria a required for a man's long term health and happiness. You'll notice that there is no mention of "brains, or...

And though you and I may have encountered people from all walks of life who we thought were "dumb," our society still rewards people for continuing their education. Why else have many of AA.org's members (myself included) pursued advanced degrees? And before you give me the speech about how "college isn't for everyone," the fact still remains...

Re: Asking too much?
Why Are We Still Equating Virginity With Purity??? However, if she ever does decide to activate her sex life, I say, do not subsequently burden yourself down with resentment and regrets. Being a virgin (or not a virgin) does not define who you are as a person. That is why I feel sorry for the woman who feels as if she has somehow lost her very essence after having sex because her self-worth and self-esteem is intimately tied to her virginity. This woman would benefit from knowing that women...

Preach it, girl!! This post perfectly sums up why I consciously avoided virgins even I was one at the age of 23. It seems too many ladies tie a state of righeousness or purity to being a virgin, but the idea is not even supported biblically. As Rowe suggested, the real message should be that ladies have much more to offer than their virginity. But I do believe that it is a good thing to do if a person want to do so. I just did not find the idea of a girl being a virgin as well as touting the...

Re: Life After Limbo
That seems rather beside the point. There are plenty of teachings that are not "inconsistent" with Scripture that are not in Scripture: the veneration of Mary, prayer to the saints, the infallibility of the Pope speaking "ex cathedra," the "filioque" clause of the Nicene Creed, are four examples. None of these are inconsistent with Scripture, but they are not found in Scripture and thus are not necessary to being a Christian. The Catholic Church holds them, and one can believe them without...

The Super Negro thing is a form of exceptionalism, that goes back centuries. It is similar to the exceptionalism often found among cultural or political black nationalist. While the later group often asserts that black folk are different, unique, or distinct culturally, socially, historically, or even biologically and thus need a "nation" of our own, the former understands black uniqueness as as somehow salvific for the world. I don't have any particular problems with it. It has its place but, most importantly, it has its proper proportion and applicability. Properly proportioned or applicable, relevant and realistic = the former. The latter is out-of-proportion. The former deals with the psychology the latter aims to combat while at the same time being realistic in its attempt to encourage, motivate or mobilize. It's done all the time when people invoke MLK and others "who died to give us..." the right to vote,...

Jack and Jill has little to do with elitism within African America. As I see it, it is about trying to maintain cultural integrity within largely white suburban communities. The families come from the ranks of the professional and college educated. To the degree that that is elitist, it is. But the purpsose is to instill pride and establish links among African American children where they might not always exist. I grew up in a white suburb of Boston in the highly racist 1970's. Once we make our voices heard by helping to elect a democrat then we hold his or her feet to the fire and forced them to do what's in the best interest of our people. We'll never get everything we want but we can get a lot. "The People" really do have the power but you have to be willing to make people uphold what they say.
