I already answered you question. RHETORIC ain't shit, Opey. I said: Someone must have forgot to tell him that was NEVER in question. Who doubted or rather who tried to cast doubt on whether WE CAN SUCCEED or not? There is too much of a history of unshakeable faith, courage and BELIEF in the abilities of Black people by our ancestors for anyone to ever, unthinking make the statement that "WE CAN SUCCEED" because, by definition, it means there was some reason to believe that we couldn't. Re: What is a Sellout?

Nmaginate ·
Don't believe that's such a problematic thing. The problem comes in when the range of possibilities, the range of "acceptables" are so broad... no one statement can capture the essence. Now, too often that may be the problem: Trying to give a simple, hard answer to a question that is at least as fluid as it is complex (complex in the sense that it's broad and one almost has to speak in broad generalities in an attempt to arrive at definition). And honest observations would reveal that...

One major problem with this is how the inexplicable behavior of a few gets generalized on the whole or the majority. Case In Point: "It was the insult that underachieving Black schoolchildren threw at their overachieving peers." Not only are there built-in exaggerations but the whole thing speaks in extremes. What does the natural B and C student think about said "overachievers" (assuming we're talking about straight A... AP types students as opposed to a traditional D student who has worked...

Here's one: DDT kills the environment, and is a great danger to humans. This is more than a myth. It is a hoax played an earth's human population by Rachel Carson auhor of 'Silent Spring'. DDT could reduce deaths from malaria to near zero within a year. AND... THE ENTIRE SCIENCE COMMUNITY KNOWS IT!!!! Of course, most malaria deaths are in Africa, followed by South, and Central America. And...Asia of course. Hmmmm. The lie is documented in 'Hoodwinked' by an author that escapes just now.

The application is as an insecticide DDT is 99%+ effective in eradicating the mosquito that carries, transmits, the disease. A good reference is 'Hoodwinked' by Jack Cashill pp 199 - 215. I gather the point of MBM's post, on a basic level, is that people who revere that song have bought into this idea that they're so much better off in America, when in reality most of them live pretty crappy lives, with little to show for all of the opportunity they believe they have. Indeed, it's hard to argue that many of the so-called "rednecks" (southern or not, Frenchy/Nate, the stereotypes are of rednecks) who love that song are doing better than the average person from most of the...
