Just last night on C-SPAN I was listening to the little call-in show they have .... and it was just INCREDIBLE .... AMAZING how many people on the Republican lines totally and completely refused the notion that climate change exists!! I mean .... I LITERALLY had my mouth open at the number of people who said it was a " government conspiracy to charge people more money" for energy!! Now ... The difference between weather and climate is a change in the probabilities. Under one set of climatic conditions the probability of a storm of a certain severity might be 5 times in 100 years. Under different climatic conditions 20 times in 100 years. But there would also be changes in other probabilities like record hot springs and summers. Capitalism may be used as a rationalization for exploitation but it is not inferent to the economic philosophy. Before 1900 there were almost no automobiles. How the technology has been implemented has had far reaching influence since then. There is no reason having to do with capitalism that made planned obsolescence necessary. I am just noting that Barney may not be an Objective source of opinion. He will not even accept his and democrats role in the housing crisis. Moreover, it was not 8 years of Republican control....it was only 6. Remember that at Democrats took control over the legislative branch of the government in 2006 and Bush, as all presidents, only propose and sign/veto and it is the legistrature that appropriates. Therefore, it was the Democrat's congress that passed bills as Bush went out the door.
