Re: Black Middle Class vs. American Middle Class

MBM ·
To be clear, it is not my intent to deride the Asian American community in any way, just to compare it to the achievements of the African American one. CF constantly shits on African American culture while praising Asian American culture. Since he also seems to like to talk about "results" - then let's see them. If we are so dysfunctional why are we out-performing them; this while also enduring a myriad of additional obstacles to our success?

Perhaps novice teachers may discuss this issue on a day-to-day basis; however, just like in any other profession, after gaining experience, knowing how to teach students becomes second nature. Sure, that's one of the purposes for attending the workshop: to network with other teachers. Other purposes include exposure to new teaching strategies and better ways to assess students. The article makes several good points, however, I think it sugarcoats the "baby mama/daddy drama" that affects many of these types of relationships. When a couple have a child, there is an eternal connection. Even though they no longer wish to have a relationship with the other parent, they play vicious games and can cause great pain perhaps because they are still going through the pain of their separation/divorce. Some biological parents won't speak to the step-parent for any reason and are...

Perhaps in part, but I think that it is more deeply rooted in the particular experiences of oppression in the African American community,e.g., they hypersexualization of the African in the white mind which fulled the physical and social emasculation of African men, contributed to the rape and abuse of African women. In the wake of this, African Americans have tended to come down hard what they deem as sexual perversions that might perpetuate what they believe to be destructive stereotypes of...

Unfortunately, these numbers and what they mean have become "normalized", in the sense put forward by Edward Herman in his book "Triumph of the Market". It can only be so, as capitalism panders to the uncontrolled greed and self-interest of the few. These statistics have to be accepted, normalized or else people would realize something is wrong and this is a threat to capitalist culture. And there is a method to all this as well. One of the cornerstones is to promote the banality of evil.
