At least you and I have a choice because we can change things with the "power of our dollar". Boycott or have the same companies cater to what our "needs" are. The ECONOMIC UNIT is just an abstract representation for many possible economic entities that all have certain things in common. It could be a single person living alone. It could be a family of 4. I made it back (obviously). Had a wonderful time the first few days and then I got really sick (still sick now). Nothing like trying to find a doctor in a foreign country at 2am. I spend a couple of days in bed, but then I was back out on the street because I had so much I wanted to see. BUT, other than that, everything was wonderful. I have always thought the some of our overspending is a way for us to feel accepted by the larger society. We (black people) need to stop focusing on finding love "outside" and start finding love on the "inside". Our romantic lives tend to follow our personal/professional lives. honestly, I could not see myself personally doing that.. I'm not really a flashy person. I'm the dude that would be an Impala from the mid 90s as opposed to a 60K dollar Mercedes but I mean if someone is in the position to spend like that more power to them. Yea, he's not telling the whole truth. During most child support/custody hearings ample time is alloted the non-custodial parent to spend with his/her kids; and oh, about how child support took his entire disability check, by law disability cannot be garnished for the purpose of child support . . .

And this means that the other parent "complies" with the court order? Just becasue the court says the father has rights to see the child doesn't mean the mother complies no more then when the court orders the father to pay child support that he complies. And it can get expensive taking someone to court all the time to fight for you rights. Any why is that? By Sunnubian I am not sure where you practice law, but in NJ, child support is calculated based on both incomes, thereafter, the non-custodial parent, pays in cash or check directly to the cusotidal parent or to the child support office[in NJ it is called the Probation Department], who converts the cash into a check that is either deposited directly into the custodial parent's account or mailed to him or her. The Custodial Parent has the discretion to spend the money as he or she see fit.

The time still exists that a family can live on one salary. The problem is that most Americans are materialistic. When you live to accumulate "stuff", it follows that you have to chase money. One of the things about hopefully being an educator is having enough sense not to engage in behavior or language that is wrong or could seemed as hateful. Just because your students are brain dead doens't mean you have to be also. Interesting point about juke joints as I spend my fair share in them while going to college in Mississippi. The idea that they were whorehouses speaks to the young not knowing what they are talking about. Granted there was sin going on in the place just not that kind.
