I think that this is such a relevant and interesting topic, I decided to bump it back up to the top of the discussion board. When I was in high school, I was fortunate enough to go to a presidential library and browse through the declassified files of that administration. I was incensed to discover that long before WWII so-called American citizens were being spied on and massive amounts of information was being documented an stored on non-violent organizations. Organizations such as the...

Many Asian families have the concept of "Shame upon the family". This "pressure" is put upon the kids to have them act in line with some sort of principles and dignity as they conduct their lives. Sister Kola speaks volumes in her discussion about race and beauty in America. Her thorough discussion about the ways in which the White supremacist concept of whiteness has impacted people globally is reminiscent of the research done by Neely Fuller and Dr. Francis Welsing. I'm certain her analysis has been heavily influenced by Dr. Fuller's United Independent Compensatory Code. Thanks for sharing. Loved it! What is Beauty? Not that Jones was'nt a beautiful woman (if not odd), but being that Europe, is the cradle of white supremacy, their appreciation suggests something deeper, more than a 'simple' appreciation of aesthetics. IMO, the attraction is rooted in the signifying, displacement, projection or othering that is part of white supremacy. If one sets up these binaries of white/black, good/bad, chase/sexual and libidinous, saintly/sinner one will see this phenomenon of love/hate. Women of color have historically been portrayed as sexual, erotic, alluring, dark and mysterious as well as ugly, undesirable, and repulsive. The "other" both attracts and repells. It fascinates and terrifies.

Don't believe that's such a problematic thing. The problem comes in when the range of possibilities, the range of "acceptables" are so broad... no one statement can capture the essence. Now, too often that may be the problem: Trying to give a simple, hard answer to a question that is at least as fluid as it is complex (complex in the sense that it's broad and one almost has to speak in broad generalities in an attempt to arrive at definition). Heru, I would assert that immutability is not a characteristic of God as represented in the biblical tradition. The God of the Bible is a God that repents, that changes his [sic] mind, etc. There are multiple covenants, there is an evolution of religious practices and teachings, etc. For example, do you follow all 613 laws of the Deuteronomic code? If not, why not? Look at the sexual ethic in the Hebrew Bible. Polygamy, levirate marriage, and concubines are all licit. As I interpret it, the...

Those laws applied to the Jews. The Jews were God's special project. There is no universalism implied in those laws and codes. The laws were more about God's (chosen) being held to and...

That it happened on 9/11 is no coincidence. They are using the "gang-related dress code" as an excuse to pick on an eleven year old child. Doing this on 9/11 only reinforces their motive. They should NEVER have approached the child about removing it in the first place. They aren't stupid. They knew wearing the head-dress was a part of her religious beliefs. Zero-tolerance should apply only in certain situations. I mean, do you even have kids? Were you even a kid or did someone just pour water on you and you became an instant adult? Zero-tolerance for weapons, OK. However, for dress code and religious expression as in this case, there is definitely room to bend there. SO again, I don't see what the problem is here with the head gear. Our people have made the mistake of confusing the methods with the objectives. As long as we agree on objectives,...
