Frenchy None of us are easily separated from our misconceptions and stereotypes. If I spot a white man wearing dark clothing and a shaved head with tattoos on his body... he's a skinhead. If he doesn't attack me, he is a skinhead in a particularly generous mood. He is not going to do or say anything to put me at complete ease. I presume the opposite is also true. ___________________________________________________ This is so true. The important thing is not to embarass the other person by...

The context was how we behave in public in general, getting on an elevator, entering a building, walking down the street, etc. As far as commerce is concerned, an good business person should have good customer service skills period. As a business person, if the clients you want are multi-racial then you need to cater to them so that you can get their business. That means treating them with respect, in certain cases trying to anticipate their desires, etc. That goes for Black and White and...

I had read the thread, and posted before. I will tell you what I think about the question you posed, but I don't think all the men are saying that all Black women are naturally bad daters/decision makers. I think that people are getting all riled up when they disagree with what someone posts and then they respond emotionally. Hey, I do it too I don't think the original post was meant to be offensive. I think it was directed at women because it came from a magazine directed at women. I wasn't...

CF's attitude towards Black Business dealing with White Business reminds me of Malcolm X's attitude towards White people in a scene of the movie "Malcolm X" with Denzel Washington. Malcolm X (still "Malcolm Little" at the time) was a teenager/young adult working on a train as a waiter having to serve White passengers. He walked around carrying food trays with a big smile on his face calling out what food he was carrying. A White navyman (this was shortly after WWII) asks for some food, and...

I think other races [of women] do experiences it, but they seem to grow out of it[i.e. white women pursuing biker type guys, asian and hispanic women seeking out gangmembers, etc]. For Black women, I think, their problem stems from their decisions to have children with bad boy/thug. A choice which has a much longer attachment [a co-parent] than a lady saying 'when I was younger, I use to date gangmembers]. Choices..choices. Too many younger black women seem to operate from the stand point...

Its a battle in any white University, in which the black population is small. Im in a similar situation.........white students are treated differently, and guidance for black students, does not exist. Black students are frustrated, and it shows in attendance and grades. I can see why black males are not here.........no one cares.

Oh, now I get it. In comparison to other middle class communities of other races, unfortunately the Black Middle Class seems to be busy trying to emmulate the White Middle Class. A community of selfish, over-privileged "rugged individualists" with that tired old "conservative Protestant work ethic" of "everyone pull yourself up by your own bootstraps". Pesonally, I think African-Americans need to get away from this "middleclassness" mentality. We should be concerned about improving our...

I thought this movie was beyond silly... and I'm sorry, but I don't see the 'emasculated black man' thing. I understand the concept but I'm not sure I buy into it. We have to deal with far more overt manifestations of racism than those found in a movie. It's just a movie, folks.... Be that as it may, on with my review: The actors were fine -- I'm a fan of both Naomi Watts and Jack Black. But the film was wayyy over the top. To be clear - the point that I am trying to illustrate is that Con Feed's rants about the problems of black culture are really a result of classism and poverty in America that transcend race. Since we know that the white middle class has declined over recent years, if the black middle class has increased or decreased at a smaller rate than the white middle class - then whatever issues CF has with black people can be attributed to the effects that ALL middle/working/poor Americans suffer from...

Sorry, I didn't communicate the point well enough. It's not just that poverty exists, its that because America utilized slavery, it denied poor and working class whites the opportunity to feed their families, earn income, and build wealth. Absent slavery there still would have been an American economy. America would have had to pay the poor and working class folks here. Sometimes the two concepts confused in this discussion (not this one specifically but this issue) is linguistic gender and biological sex. One cannot argue from the first to the second. A very funny treatment of this and several other like issues in language can be found in Mark Twain's essay "The Awful German Language." Seriously, however, in languages where every noun is assigned a gender (which is most of them. Interestingly, English has rid itself of almost all gender-references, and yet...

Uppity Negress, Blacks maintained SOCIALLY conservative views during our advancement, not POLITICALLY conservative views. One has to do with family marriage, religion and morality which we are all for. The other relates to politics and policies such as repeals on AA that has always worked adversely against blacks...and if you ever look at what the black majority believes in, the political conservatives are diametrically opposed to it 100% of the time. It seems social, IMO, but if the last wave of election count for anything, the right sure played it like a political issue. You say that political conservatives are diametrically opossed to the Black majority. The only issues I can think of now are AA and death penalty reform. What are the others?
