Kresge, that's a good question. I suppose the immediate context is Melesi's accusation that I don't give his posts a fair reading. But to be fair, it goes far beyond that. As a single non-Christian, who has just moved to a new town, living in the Bible belt, in a place where the first thing people ask you when they meet you is "Where do you go to church?", in a place where even in the online dating community the women all declare "You can't love me if you can't love Jesus", I frankly find...

With respect to the AA community, I think that science and mathematics, little priority seems to be given to these disciplines. There seems to be much more of a connection with arts associated...

for me plain and simple, I'm not trying to work forever. I have seen mom and dad work forever and they still are. So is saving simply done out of fear of having to work when you are old? Is it done to be able to have fun when your old, travel a lil bit, not work etc... or is it done to leave someting to your children? Im still not clear on why one should save their money versus spending it now and enjoying life now?

for me its a combination of all those you mentioned. my concern though is what will our folks do once they reach an age where they may not be able to work any longer or they are in a situation where they need money in an emergency. I think for alot of our people there is no reason to live paycheck to paycheck. Nothing wrong with enjoying life.

Poor fiscal conservatives actually believe Bush is doing something for them with his tax cuts. Although, there is nothing to base this on except what Bush told them. Idiots. This may be more or less true, but for us it's getting less and less true with each passing year. Thank you... I'm trying to understand the Super-Negro thingy... Here it is, a whole symposium dedicated to how we can [better] "help ourselves" (because in some ways we aren't), but this Noble Negro Notion of Saving America, if not the world, becomes a counterpoint to suggestions that we "govern ourselves" - focus on administering directly to our needs and not relying on others to do so? The Super Negro thing is a form of exceptionalism, that goes back centuries. It is similar to the exceptionalism often found among cultural or political black nationalist. While the later group often asserts that black folk are different, unique, or distinct culturally, socially, historically, or even biologically and thus need a "nation" of our own, the former understands black uniqueness as as somehow salvific for the world. Even before it appears in King, it is present in black culture...

I agree, this is very scary indeed. As a private entity, there are certainly questions of accountability that arise (stockholders vs citizens, openess of practices and procedures vs. private information and trade secrets, etc.) What about training, what about law enforcement officers representing the communities which they serve? As deputized citizens, must they follow procedures with respect to searches (warrants)? Does Miranda hold for these guys?

After this incident, I think they should create an emergency help line specifically for children. It could be a "511" line perhaps. This is definitely an unfortunate incident, but I'm sure the operator would have serviced the caller had she known the boy sincerely needed help. After hearing the taped call, I would have even thought it was a prank call. Even though the boy is only five years old, I could hardly understand what the boy was trying to say. I'm sorry that this has happened.

Re: Where should Reparations funds come from?

In a capitalist society, the only way to get our money straight is to move from consumer to producer. The movement does not address this issue. In fact, it is a monetary issue and not a fiscal one. It does not make any sense to put MORE money into the hands of people who are already consumer driven and motivated.

The definition of fiscal I am using is "having to do with finances" not the definition partaining to government finances.
