Following his training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, DAVID OYELOWO was offered the 1999 season at the UK's Royal Shakespeare Company, playing roles in Volpone and Oroonoko. The following season, he became the first Black actor to play an English monarch for the RSC, taking the title role in Henry VI. This performance won him the Ian Charleson Award in 2001 for Best Newcomer in a Classical Play. David Oyelowo (born on 1 April 1976) is a British actor. He was born in Oxford,...

how old is your friend? If she is over 30, then it sounds like she is taking the best deal on the table. I'm from the MD area, educated in DC[Georgetown U], returned to DC after grad school and have found that black women are the least approachable women of the all. Many DC black men agree with me on this. That's why there are so many mixed couples in the surrounding areas, i.e. Northern VA, PG County, Gaitherburg MD, Bethesda MD, and Silver Spring MD...have you ever been to Georgetown??

1. I don't think it is a sign of a mental illness, just a reality check. Older women that desire motherhood have to do whatever it takes to get to that goal...and time is running out. 2. I think that older women have to 'fall in line' when it comes with their desire to be a wife and mom. I know from personal experiences in dating women well over 30 that marriage/child questions on a first or second date is a real downer!! But what choice does she really have? I would conclude that many young black women make very poor dating choices early in their dating lives. It seems, like Dr Audrey Chapman*******[link below with highlighted quote] has concluded, that many black women are looking to be a savior in their quest to attempt to try to change a bad boy into a good man..as oppose to starting out with a good man and building from there. one of the reasons why the black man shortage myth is just that is because not all of the women in that 'ratio' are desireable or seeking positive men in their lives. Women are quick to eliminate men who are non-degreed, but never eliminate women with kids. Which is a 'harder' dating situation?? dating a degree-less man or dating a babymomma? I think the babymomma is harder because her kids must come first in her life and require a great deal of her time. Also, what if the kids don't like...

Some other worthwhile - if depressing - reading is about John Hawkyns, who set sail from England on direct orders from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth I, during the 1560's bound for the Guinea Coast. His mission: to round up Africans and ship them to the slave markets of Spanish America. According to Nick Hazelwood, who has a degree in history, John Hawkyns was the queen's personal slave trader, and England's first trafficker in the transatlantic trade. .

You are correct, sir. That whole competition argument is absolutely bogus! Private schools choose the students they want to accept into their institution, public schools take every child within their district , whether they speak English as a first language, regardless of their ability to buy their own lunch, uniform, or pay for their field trips, whether they are C students or make regular appearances on the honor roll.

Not really. Having dated women with children and known them I think it is wise for a person to keep the parenting and relationship separate until it is clear that the relationship will be for the long haul. The main concern is for the child. If the single parent continues to introduce people to the child as a "potential" parent and the relationship ends as they can and do, it could have an impact on the child. And I personally don't have respect for a woman that would place a stranger above...

IME, it's much more difficult for a child to think of their parent as single or casually dating and then BAM! all of a sudden they introduce you to their fiance. A child would think "Holy shit! I think you're right about that. But slow and cautious would be the best strategy. It can be just as much of a shock for the kids to get attached to your date, and then for them to be suddenly gone. You can build a relationship slowly, but break-ups tend to happen pretty fast.
